Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la BĂȘte)
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast

This build was inspired by a trip to the beach of Lake Huron, MI.
The use of nets to shape the sand was inspired by a build by Jan, the Creator, along with some other less closely-related uses.

A MOC I built about 5 years ago: An interpretation of the Prancing Pony.
Unfortunately not well photographed, and meanwhile disassembled.
Maybe you like it anyway đ
Because I do nearly everything in 3s, this is the first MOC in a mixel-joint-based miniland plus series with heavy emphasis on color and emotion. The vignette takes up a ~32x32 footprint in a circle. Completed in March 2023. Only uses the following colors: Black, Dark Blue, Dark Azure, Medium Azure, Dark Bley, Light Bley, Light Aqua, and White. Won Best Vignette at Brickworld Chicago 2023. The Dino Tail addiction is real.
Who doesnât love a midnight snack? I built a new Fabuland MOC especially for Edinbrick this weekend, itâs an accompaniment to âCheesy Riderâ from Bricktastic in February.

I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett's books so it's no surprise I've always wanted to build the Great A'Tuin with elephants and Discworld on top. This micro model brought me a lot of fun in figuring all the details and I hope you'll like it too :)
(And if you like it, you can support it on LEGO Ideas!)
Edit: free instructions available on my Rebrickable page!

Being my favorite moc Iâve built yet, I thought it deserved to be shown with a better quality photo.
This was one of those large builds that didnât fit in my light box, and I really struggled to get a good photo of it. After using my new umbrella diffusers, I finally got a photo that does this moc justice. See for yourself, I think there is a WORLD of difference, and Iâm really excited about it.
As I celebrate launch of my first LEGO Ideas set, 21340 Tales of the Space Age, I'd like to share with you three more pictures in the series I've built. They are closer in style to my original submission, but uses a dedicated hanger on the same height as pictures in the final set. I hope you enjoy these models as well as the previous ones.
Instructions available on my Rebrickable page (warning: all three models use some illigal techniques). rebrickable.com/users/john.carter/mocs/
ive sketched many of these yet never built one. the next iteration might be less ambitious and more to my liking in cohesion, this one being a pilot of a series I mean to perfect later.
A bit of a departure from what I usually build. Got inspired by the concrete sculptures by David Umemoto and decided to make my own in the medium I'm most comfortable in. Eliminating gaps and studs to get a clean pour took some time as I had just enough silicone and concrete for one go at it. It's not perfect but I think the imperfections adds to the weathered look. Will post some process pics on instagram for anyone interested.
Rainbows have became a symbol of optimism in Canada during the pandemic - the pretty silver lining after the storm.
Right now I feel like we need a waterfall of Rainbows...
Week 6 of InnovalLUG's Style it up contest - This week's challenge - build whatever I want...
So I continue with MC Escher works putting my own spin on things....
Mûmak of Harad - Lord of the Rings
Finally finished! This build took me around 4 months to finish and I'm happy to have it done.
Mumakil or Oliphaunts were huge elephant like beasts that featured prominently in the battle of Pelennor Fields in the Return of the King. Ive built this referencing the movies version the best I could follow, along with some creative liberties of course.
I'll be displaying this at the Christchurch Brickshow in July if you would like to come and see it in person.
This was built for RebelLUG's internal monthly prompt. The prompt was to build something that would fit in with the Archipelego Collab.
I am really proud of this one. This is definitely one of my favorite MOCs I've built. I pushed myself with the rock work, tree, different angles, and the use of colors I don't usually use. I also rarely build vehicles so the floating boat was also a nice challenge. I hope you enjoy!
For the sake of completeness, here's my full lineup of Tales of the Space Age. I don't think there will be more in a foreseeable future - I'm very happy with the seven pictures as is and enjoy having them on the wall of my home office.
And just in case you'd like to build some of them, 21340 Tales of the Space Age is still available in LEGO S@H. For the additional ones, you can get the instructions from my Rebrickable page: rebrickable.com/users/john.carter/mocs/
This praying mantis was made with 42,164 Lego bricks and measures 50 inches by 48 inches by 30 inches.
I shot this at McKee Gardens, Vero Beach, Fl in 2017 during an incredible Lego exhibit:
"Nature Connects: Art with Lego Bricks" by artist Sean Kenney.
I chose to utilize selective color in order to let the praying mantis stand out among the lush green foliage.
Happy Gorgeous Green Thursday!

Week 7 of InnovalLUG's Style it up contest - where no one else is building...
So I'll just continue playing my own game!
Iâve made a new chonky chum for my mumâs #HappyPlants, please say hello to Fabulandosa! Best known for his wonderful #Storytelling skills, this hardy little chap was first introduced to the UK in 1979.
âHappy Plantsâ (set 10349) was designed by Aaron Newman, and is just the cutest #Lego set. Thank you Aaron, they are all so happy sitting on our kitchen window sill.
Build your own Fabulandosa, free instructions on #Rebrickable (link in bio).
This 92-part model will cost ~ÂŁ10 on BrickLink.
N.B. His eye tiles are from 1971 âDolls Kitchenâ (261) and mouth brick 2025 âCreative Food Friendsâ (11039).

"In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit..."
and you know the rest.
I am very excited to present my entirely-rebuilt model, this time in real bricks and properly photographed! (please excuse my novice photoshop skills) It has been much too long in the works.
Next up are instructions!
I have yet to format about 80% of the pages. And I'm currently in school, so this may have to wait some time.
Stay tuned.
