This was an unbelivably hot and humid night. It was very late, and thankfully, pretty empty. I love DC and loved it even more by myself at 3 AM.
An afternoon stroll but with decisions to make - do I go left or do I go right?! I did both actually, left on the way and right on the way back - for the astute that was indeed left again of course:-). Well that’s a week done in my first ‘One a day’, it took me to places I would not have been and I’ve learnt a little more along the way I’m sure too. Thanks for checking in, Alan:-)
366 - I’ve decided to do this to force me to pick up a camera other than when we are away on our travels (they will be posted as normal) - I will be interested to see what transpires, they will be varied I’m sure so we’ll see where inspiration takes me over the course of the year, hopefully at the end of it I will be a better photographer. Feel free to critique as you see fit, but please don’t feel obliged, I anticipate they will not be to all tastes. Have a great year and if you also have embarked on a 365 project then good luck in seeing it through, Alan:-)
For the interested I’m growing my Shutterstock catalogue regularly here, now sold 29 images :- www.shutterstock.com/g/Alan+Foster?rid=223484589&utm_...

I like the contrast in this picture. The dark side on the left and the bright side on the right. So which way would you choose? ;)
When crossing the road I suddenly realised I had forgotten what I was crossing it for. Then I realised that a large red truck was coming towards me and I should probably move from it's path. However I couldn't decide whether to go right of left so I just stood there screaming and screaming until one of the guys in the truck (which had managed to stop in time) climbed out and lead me to the side of the road. (the right - not my first choice, what an idiot!)
The choice facing drivers on Cowbridge Road East as they approach its junction with Cathedral Road. The closure of the road ahead is in connection with the Champions League Final which is being held in Cardiff this weekend.

Mahón, or Maó as the official Catalan name is pronounced by the locals, is the capital of the Island of Menorca. It is located on the eastern coast of Spain and these days there are around 30,000 people living there. Covering an area of 109,000 square kilometres you will be delighted to see many sights of history and tradition such as the picturesque harbour, which in times gone by was protected by the two strongholds; the stunning architecture of the buildings and the typically Spanish shops and eateries. The city was given its name by the General Mago Barca who, rumour has it took refuge in Mahon in the year 205 BC and in fact, Mahon plays an important role in the history of the island as a whole. When you pay a visit to Mahon and the surrounding area you will spot the beautiful Georgian architecture, evidence of the island of Menorca being occupied by the British over the past centuries. The local government has taken steps to enhance the city and lots of new buildings such as hotels, restaurants and shops have appeared in recent years, offering the increasing number of tourists even more reasons to make sure Mahon is on their itinerary of places to go whilst holidaying on this beautiful island.
A vertorama photo of the streets of Maó, capital of the Island of Menorca - Spain. Mahon has many pedestrian only lanes for those wishing to take the healthy option. Which way now? Left Calle de Isabel II or right Calle de Bon Aire?
Taken in Hunstanton (England, UK). A lovely evening sky and I was trying to find something to build a silhouette photo round. I liked the look of this signpost and thought I'd give it a try.

Left or Right? Red or Blue? Perhaps you are more of a purple, yellow or even a green...? All we know is that (yet again) there's another very binary election choice tomorrow. There's not much middle ground these days which is either good if you like stark choices or bad if you don't like extremes. In the UK we are not obliged to vote, so many are just planning on staying at home with their fingers in their ears finding a happy place.

It was sunset hours.... and there, by will of destiny, a beauty competition was established without anyone but my camera noticing...
The beauty on the wall, out of reach, professional, trained...
vs. the beauty a few feet away, sweet, natural, radiant...
Who would you declare the winner?
High Line,
New York
PS: Like I said earlier, I'm leaving tonight on a 3 week trip to Spain... I'm not sure how much internet connection I'll have this time. So just in case I can't upload often or visit your photos either... have a great August and see you soon!!!! Though... now that I think of it, I might leave Anton in charge of uploading a few of my latest good photos, that lay processed on my desktop computer... :-)))
