Obsèques de Françoise Peillon, née Blum (Baulieu), 26 juillet 1930 / 7 janvier 2022. Ayant échappé de peu à l'Anéantissement nazi, dénoncée - avec sa famille - à Grenoble, enfant cachée en Haute-Savoie (1943 et 1944 ; éternelle reconnaissance aux résistants d'Annecy, des Glières, des Aravis, du Beaufortain...), Françoise Peillon consacra sa vie à sauver de nombreuses autres vies, à l'hôpital (La Pitié - Salpêtrière), à rechercher et parfois trouver les causes de graves maladies endocriniennes. Championne de France universitaire de ski, navigatrice (transats en trimarans), elle aimait par ailleurs livres et beaux-arts, voyages et actions de solidarité... Ses trois enfants, ses dix petits-enfants et ses arrière-petits-enfants peuvent témoigner aussi de son engagement familial.

Son père était le professeur de médecine Léon Blum (1878-1930), spécialiste de la physiopathologie rénale et diabétologue, à Strasbourg, initiateur de l'insulinothérapie en France, fils aîné du rabbin Félix Blum (1847-1925) et de Jeannette Lederman. Sa mère, Thérèse Lion (1894-1985), née à Caen, avocate et féministe, fut une militante des droits internationaux (SDN). Son frère est Étienne-Émile Baulieu (né en 1926), professeur honoraire de médecine du Collège de France et membre de l'Académie des sciences. Sa sœur était Suzanne de Brunhoff (1929 / 2015), économiste au CNRS (directrice de recherche).

Lineup: Anne Lederman (fiddle), Capucine Onn (fiddle).
This play with plenty of tunes was billed as "one woman’s journey into the world of Canadian Aboriginal fiddling". Written by Anne Lederman it relates how she discovered Manitoba Métis fiddle music in 1980s and the impact of three men in particular: Carl Grexton, Grandy Fagnan and Lawrence ‘Teddy Boy’ Houle. Originally a solo storytelling/fiddling performance, it was re-written in 2004 as a two-person theatrical event. Capucine Onn played the young Lederman, while Lederman played those she met as well as providing some reflections on her experience. I saw Anne Lederman earlier at NAFCo in a concert of Métis music with Alicia and Liam Blore (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157700851451275/).

Washington DC November 14, 1969: Participants place placards that they carried (containing the names of American servicemen killed in Vietnam) in coffins lined up in front of the Capitol. The 40 hour march continued despite heavy rain. The actions took place as part of the Vietnam Moratorium activities. The three female marchers pictured are (l-r) Ronnie Sokol, Diana Lederman and Nancy Peskind all of Highland Park, Ill.

Hubbell Elementary School students inspect soil and learn about composting in the Hubbell School garden.
Hubbell Elementary School held its second annual Garden Planting Day on April 24. All of Hubbell’s students in kindergarten through fifth grade planted a seed or seedling into the Hubbell School garden.
The Garden Planting Day is part of a comprehensive school garden program that includes thirteen raised vegetable beds, a school garden club, garden tasting days, and an indoor garden cart with grow lights that provide year-long horticulture lessons to the students.
“The goal of the Hubbell School garden is to demonstrate how food is grown, teach basic botany, reinforce good nutritional habits and promote the benefits of spending time outside,” said Jacob Lederman, Hubbell School Garden Committee Chair.
The Hubbell School garden is sponsored by the Hubbell School Garden committee and funded by the Hubbell PTA.
