On 16 November 2021 Dame Sarah Falk delivered the 2021 Cambridge Freshfields Lecture entitled "Modern Judging".
The Honourable Mrs Justice Falk DBE spoke about modern judging, her experience as a High Court judge having followed an unconventional path to the High Court bench, the selection of judges, and some lessons learned from the pandemic for the conduct of proceedings.
Dame Sarah Falk studied law at the University of Cambridge before starting her professional career at Freshfields. She was a partner at Freshfields between 1994 and 2013 and subsequently worked as a consultant. While at Freshfields she was involved in graduate recruitment as well as holding managerial roles. She became a High Court judge in October 2018, sitting in the Chancery Division, and was appointed to the Judicial Appointments Commission as the High Court representative in October 2019.

Professor Jim Al Khalili, theoretical physicist, broadcaster (some very fine science documentaries on the BBC and C4) and author, signing copies of his latest work after a fascinating lecture for the Royal Society of Edinburgh at Edinburgh University's George Square Theatre as part of the celebrations of the remarkable Alan Turing in the 100th anniversary of his birth. Despite pouring rain and unseasonable cold temperatures it was packed out as Jim paid tribute to one of the great scientific minds of the 20th century, the father of modern computing, AI and, with his priceless work on codebreaking at Bletchley Park (the famous Station X), in my opinion also one of Britain's great war heroes. He never wore a uniform and his weapon was his mind, not a rifle, but he and his colleagues were directly responsible for saving untold thousands of lives in the desperate struggle against the Nazis. I'm delighted to see his life being celebrated this year and that so many people braved icy cold rain to hear Jim's lecture.

In this President's Lecture series, Associate Professor of Media Art Julia Christensen presented her ongoing research and art project about “upgrade culture”—the perceived need of having to relentlessly upgrade our electronics and media to remain relevant.
Christensen also touched on her current collaboration with scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory envisioning an artwork to be embedded on a spacecraft that will travel to Proxima b, an exo-planet 4.2 light years from Earth.

Sabato 23 luglio, ore 21.00 - Teatro di rapina: parole rubate alla radio
LECTURE RADIO
reading & story
Lecture Radio è uno spettacolo teatrale e musicale.
