A small leaflet advertising the services of the Brighton, Hove & Worthing Joint Municipal Airport at Shoreham and dating from the late 1930s. The airport is still in service, as Brighton City Airport, and dating from 1910/11, it is commonly held to be the UK and probably the world's oldest airport still in service.
The site was jointly purchased by the three neighbouring councils in 1936 and the stylish art-deco terminal building, seen here, was constructed. The leaflet also offers the opportunity to learn to fly at the South Coast Flying Club and advertises the services of the Olley Air Service Ltd., formed in 1934, and the associated Channel Air Ferries Ltd. they acquired in 1936. There are also details of how to get to the airport by train, using the Shoreham Airport Halt that operated between 1935 and 1940, by Southdown bus and by road.
The centrefold shows advert panels and the public facilities that were provided with a restaurant, bar and lounge "admidst beautiful surroundings" and "with always something to interest".
Yesterday, my son and I did some air to air photography for a friend. Perfect day in beautiful skies.
I miss this. This is for Jen. Thanks for the kind comments. I've been tagged by some really nice people.
Five things that make me happy.
1. flying
2. feeling wind in my face
3. driving around aimlessly just for the hell of it
4. laying in bed in the morning listening to the birds outside my window
5. looking at old photos with friends and family
Four favorite foods/drinks
1. Java Chip Frappuchino
2. Ube Macapuno Twirl ice cream
3. my roommate's beef stew
4. my grandmother's goulash
Three favorite movies
1. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
2. Spirited Away
3. Unforgiven
Two places I'd like to visit
1. New Zealand/Australia (yeah, that's two, but they're both cool and right next to each other)
2. Bhutan (has the strongest environmental protection laws in the world and Himalayas - need I say more?)
Favorite memory
How can I possibly have just one favorite memory? The first one that comes to mind is hiking up the side of a mountain with my grandmother in Banff, Canada. She wanted to quit, but I pushed her to continue. At the end of the long hike, we caught our breath and basked in the glory of Lake Louise 500 feet below.

Run and tell all of the angels
This could take all night
Think I need a devil to help me get things right
Hook me up a new revolution
Cause this one is a lie
We sat around laughing and watched the last one die
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of lying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
I think I'm done nursing the patience
I can wait one night
I'd give it all away if you give me one last try
We'll live happily ever trapped if you just save my life
Run and tell the angels that everything is alright
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
Make my way back home when I learn to
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone
Try and make this life my own
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone
Try and make this life my own
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying
Make my way back home when I learn to
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
Make my way back home when I learn to, learn to, learn to…

Corri e parla a tutti degli angeli
ci potrebbe volere tutta la notte
penso di aver bisogno che un diavolo mi aiuti
a far andare bene le cose
Agganciami ad una nuova rivoluzione
perchè questa è una bugia
ci siamo seduti qua intorno
ridendo e guardando morire l'ultimo
sto guardando al cielo affinchè mi salvi
cercando un segno di vita, cercando qualcosa
che mi aiuti a bruciare brillando
sto cercando una complicazione
cerco perchè sono stanco di mentire
tornando, ho fatto la strada di casa
quando ho imparato a volare
penso di aver finito,
dando assistenza alla pazienza
posso aspettare ancora una notte
darei tutto quel che go se tu mi dessi
un'ultima possibilità
vivremo felici sempre incastrati

Day 17: Today, as every other day, Dominique the hummingbird was anxious to go to the garden. I took him out and he made a few attempts at flight that in the vast majority of cases resembled more gliding than flying.
After a couple of hours Dominique's mom showed up with food, needless to say this uplifted him. When his mom was ready to go Dominique made a significant effort at flying after her and succeeded in moving roughly 6 metres.
Despite no physical change from when he made his morning attempts Dominique has become, since the visit of his mother, a much more skilled flyer. He does not yet have the ability to fly away, but it is interesting to see the power of mom's motivation and Dominique's own self-confidence at work.

Learn To Fly: Foo Fighters, There Is Nothing Left To Lose
I always loved the visuals in the song of flying among the angels, and the twist between both Heaven and Hell to find a balance. The Foo Fighters is a band that just sort of seems to get better and better with every album. So much of their music has really inspired me over the years, none as much as their last album.
