This is a bottle of Wild Turkey American Spirit, which is a 15 year old bourbon that my best friend gave me as a gift for being the best man in his wedding this past weekend. It's a "Bonded" whiskey, produced as a small batch bourbon with only 12,000 bottles available in the U.S. It is quite tasty!

My grandmother was recently in the hospital because she wasn't feeling well, but after an angiogram everything checked out just fine; turned out she just needed her prescriptions updated. While visiting her, I decided to shoot a picture of my grandfather looking out he window. I love how this came out.

Details

- Mamiya C220 with 80mm f/2.8 lens, 1/60 sec at f/2.8

- Developed with Kodak D-76

- I'm rather impressed with the way I 'scanned' this. I hung the negatives in front of a white backdrop, then shot a digital image of the negative with my Nikon D40 using my Sigma 105mm macro lens. I back lit the negative with my SB-600 flash, 1/32 power triggered with a Cybersync. Processed in Photoshop by inverting the image and adjusting the levels and curves.

OK, so I did mess up spectacularly.

This was supposed to be my 365 for 9 January. But I got all "oh my, the moon" that I spaced (ha) out, and I posted that.

So this is really my 365 for that, and my whole posting debacle earlier in the day? Didn't matter. I'm off to go fix that now.

But first! And more importantly: This is Jeremy.

Jeremy is wonderful. Jeremy moved to Brooklyn last weekend. And I will miss him. New York, you are so lucky to have him, because he is funny and nice and talented and did I mention nice and also cool and super friendly and takes amazing photographs and soon will have that whole city conquered.

I'll see you soon, Jeremy. I'm planning a little trip east for the spring, I think.

Oh this photo! Was from his going away dinner. A big group of us went to the Old Clam House and ate cioppino. The best part of the meal, besides meeting more excellent friends of Jeremy, was that when you get cioppino, you also get a bib. Which everyone immediately put on. And then went right back to whatever it was they were doing. So you had a whole group of adults sitting around talking, completely oblivious to the overt bibbage going on everywhere. Superb!

Here's me about to wear a bib. And here's me actually wearing it.

And let's say bye to Jeremy one last time. Or hello, if we're lucky enough to live on the east coast. Hang out with this one. He's great.

I liked the look of these in the morning sun, but it was a bit too blue/cyan for me, so I adjusted the colors and saturation with a overlay black & white layer in Photoshop. Then I played with the exposure to increase the contrast and accentuate the highlights and shadows of the stacks.

It seems "the gray times" are here. Time for a transition, a mental and physical hibernation of sorts. Gotta get into the groove of coming up with indoor subjects to take photos of. My wife bought some clementine oranges, which are one of her favorite snacks, so I put them in a bowl on our kitchen table and I am trying to start my transition.

Details: Three shots merged to HDR in Photoshop, added a B&W adjustment layer, selectively colored, applied a lens blur gradient, a light diffuse glow, and used levels to add a darker transparent border.
