A Juvenile Cardinal learning how to use the feeder. Good job!

Robin a juvenile, I do like to see them learning the ropes and looking round their habitats when young.

Sydney's first ballet class. This was taken shortly before she left the class. She only made it 10 minutes into the 45 minute class before giving up. I think it was too overwhelming for her being in there with the big kids. It didn't help that Jessie kept giving her instruction...haha. I kept telling Jessie to let the instructor give her guidance, but Jessie being the teacher that she is, kept telling Sydney what to do.

Next week, we will make sure she is in an age appropriate class. :)

…I assume this is a forerunner of sailing and a good place to start and learn how to harness the wind. Missing the sea already - I want to go back, this was taken at Coverack on the Lizard in Cornwall. Have a great week folks, Alan:-)…..

EXPLORE - October 2, 2010

This juvenille green heron spent over 20 minutes fishing from the mooring rope in full swing - swaying, bobbing, leaning precariously, scooting up and down, searching for his dinner below the reflections. He must have been focused on something worthwhile, but he never took the plunge, never snagged his dinner prize. I gave up waiting when the light changed and he gave up too and flew away.

Black-throated Divers, adult and juvenile, I was eating lunch and enjoying the view when these two swam by, talk about chuck stuff away and grab the camera I only had a scenic lens but had to try, and although not brilliant it does show them well

Graham went to help Gaynor, I grabbed the camera.....Charles pole threading on the right.

Scheepstouw en emmer in een antiek schip (Oostende voor anker)

I was sitting watching J today and I would occassionally try to check flickr out and she always wanted to touch the computer and play so I got this bright idea! Shoot her on Flickr! How ingenius I know! I had to have some help with this one so she wouldn't actually destroy the computer. It was so funny that she would hit some keys and be able to go places I have never seen on the computer. It is just like those commercials that are out with the baby sitting at the computer buying stock and such! Very cute! Hope this brings a smile to your face this morning! Take care my friends.

Birds of Prey have a fascination for my daughter since she was a child. She is passionate about them and the falconer, Kevin Bunn, seemed to realise this. She spent a wonderful morning with him holding, stroking, interacting with and learning about the birds.

This particular day of our trip will forever be a fond memory for her.

Crew Training up in the Crow's Nest safely tethered

The Sailing Ship STS Lord Nelson's professional crew probably giving some hard advice and lessons to young people who have just joined the ship in Greenock and almost certainly the very first time up on the crow's nest on a tall ship. Today's crews are appropriately securely tethered

9th July 2010 - Alister, Patrick, Dan and Cara take Mary down the exquisite River Yealm where they'd had an 'interesting' pilotage experience during their arrival late the previous night, when they successfully navigated their way between countless million-pound yachts in the pitch darkness. Phew! Earlier, Patrick Anne and OJ had peddled into picturesque Newton Ferrars, where they'd been for a swim, eaten posh chips in the waterfront beer garden of an olde worlde pub and set up camp in some creekside woods nestling in this deliciously gorgeous nook of the world. It was proper Swallows and Amazons territory. Tough job but someone had to do it!

I was thinking about my son and how he has progressed so far in the 2 yrs of his Air Force life and ran across my own BDU's (Battle Dress Units) and thought WOW....where our lives began so many years ago.

I now serve with the DoD in the Medical Response Unit in GA and just putting on our old BDU's since our dress has changed the last 5 yrs it bought back memories of my Air Force days as an Air Traffic Controller. The fun I had, the days in the tower and crossing fields with my oldest brother who served before me as an Air Force Meteorologist when he would bring my nephew to Scott AF Base for Pediatric visits.. It was the fun times that I remember. Now I am the PROUD mommy of an Air Force Crew Chief... sooo AMAZING...

I am slowly going to be dangerous when I really figure out my D200, not putting away that D80 yet but I have GOT to ween myself off of it... :-)

These guys were ready to catch some fish! I cautiously watched them from afar, I didn't want to ruin their day together. Dad seemed somber, yet eager to show his son what to do. The boy seemed very excited, but patiently kept to himself, waiting on instructions from dad. They brought all sorts of stuff out on the ice with them, and within minutes, were fishing.

Looks like a lot of fun. I hope they did well and enjoyed their time together.

This shot makes me think about the day that I have children. I cannot wait for the days I will be able to go out and do this with my child. I, too, am a fisherman. My father and I used to go fish when I was young, and I always loved when we would go do stuff like this together. Regardless of if we caught anything, it was nice to be together, and as a young boy, I always learned something cool! That young man is growing up right in front of his fathers eyes and he doesn't even know it.

Alright. Cheese report: I followed the directions exactly and I got the kind of fresh mozzarella you can buy in the store that has very little flavor and a kind of bouncy texture. I don't prefer this kind of mozzarella. I like the slightly older kind that is kind of dry and that most food-obsessed-people deplore.

A lady at one of the Portland farmer's market was selling some mozzarella cheese in curd form that tasted EXACTLY like that packaged kind (the brand I usually buy is "Precious") but it tasted even better. The texture was firmer than the spongy fresh mozzarella that weird people love so much.

Yes, I probably mean all of you.

So if you want to get the kind of fresh mozzarella that most people love, I can say that it's not that hard. Although I admit that I didn't get the hang of shaping mine. They look pretty ugly.

But if you like the kind of mozzarella I do, which only me and uneducated food palates will admit to liking, then this didn't turn out so well.

More experimenting is called for.

The process was really not difficult though and that's the good news for most people. People who aren't me.

Earlier this year I began working part time at the radio station Z 95.3 which is a station owned by Newcap Radio. As a radio student, this opportunity was very exciting and I couldn't wait to make connections and learn about what the industry is all about. This photo was taken at one of our pre-christmas events. This job has really gave me some perspective about what career I am going into. If anything, this experience has solidified that I want to go into radio and media relations for the soul reason of it being my happy place. The people where amazing and such good sports about taking photos with us!
