8"x10" cyanotype on Canson Montval watercolor paper.
First attempt with digital negatives. I used Permajet digital film, which worked really well. It gives a dense negative with a lot of detail. This image was exposed in indirect sun for 3 hours. It was washed in acidified water. The following day, it was toned in black coffee and washed in a vinegar bath a few times, then left to sit in the black coffee for about 15 minutes. The coffee turns the blue into a more navy color, which I like a lot.
Things I learned here (for those who might be interested in making cyanotypes themselves):
1. I read a tutorial that suggested using the rougher back side of the watercolor paper. I tried that, and the paper didn't take the emulsion evenly. Next time, I will use the correct side.
2. I need to make my borders wider when using these large negatives. The edges aren't as sharply defined as I would like.
3. Coffee toning without bleaching first gives the colors that I prefer. I will definitely do that again.
4. I used a curve to create my negative, something based on the one created by Peter Mahar. This worked really well to maintain a variety of midtones. I will continue to use that when making digital negatives in the future.
Side note: This is an amazing mélange of technologies. The image was shot with a medium format camera on film, the negatives were scanned, processed digitally, given the special cyanotype curve, reversed to create a negative. The negative was printed on digital film and then used to make the contact print. It's an incredible process! I am glad to have all the tools that permit me to explore the possibilities that exist within this type of printing.

This is an out-take. As soon as I see the light and the scene in Van Dusen Garden on the day, I know I like to have infrared exposure for it.
However I still took a shot in colour because I like to have the comparison to the final result I got in infrared. This was taken at the same spot with my infrared picture (they are both taken on tripod).
I like to see the out-takes in my archives and have them compared to the final version I chose. Usually I will shoot more than one frame with adjustments in composition (camera position, angle etc), adjustment in white balance, depth of field and exposure. I can see how the vision is gradually defined or refined in the process.
I think it will be interesting to see the out-takes of great masters too when they are compared to the final version and we can witness that process happening.
There is always the learning or development process in photography and this is also the fun part of amateur photography.
Do you think so?

In the background you see the church of Bubbio.
It would have been better using a larger diafragma, so that the village would have been in a softer bokeh, but I'm just a beginner. I think this is what they call learningprocess.
Ambassador Roemer met with residents in the Sanjay Gandhi Settlement to see how U.S. government funded programs are making a difference in the lives of residents there. He viewed an advanced cookstoves demonstration that will reduce the negative health effects of indoor pollution and met with a women's health group.

Since I had my camera with me after I put in time trying to stay alive a little longer at the Monroe Branch YMCA, I decided I liked this view of the cornerstone and the old sign and got going on taking a picture.
A very pleasant woman, who I saw by her name badge was the Executive Director of this branch, was suddentlyh standing beside me and appeared interested in the picture I was taking.
She told me that his kind of Y Sign is very old. Not many of them left. She also told me that the red triangle on the "Y" alludes to the Christian origin of the YMCA's, as well as signifying "Mind, Body, Spirit", the aspects of one's life that are supposed to be enhanced if you venture inside. Most interesting....to me anyway.
