In the beautiful morning light the three cheetah cubs were watching their mother.

Two blended shots of a juvenile Black-faced Cuckoo Shrike come to cadge food from a compliant human. This is one of two chicks, each with very different personalities. They both come looking for food, but this is the more assertive of the two. It has learned that I will throw food onto the roof for it, as I do for its parents. Last week it waited on the roof for the food, this week it hovers above the roof and dives to pick up the food. This is their natural behaviour and it's wonderful to see this little bird grow and learn so fast.
As seen on a walk.
This hill is often used to teach drivers, as you have to weave in and out of passing traffic, but here he or she has the road to themselves.

I am guessing that this is a juvenile starling and it has not taken it long to suss out the fat snax feeder here at Chez FatSnax . It has been a bit of a battleground here at the feeder with magpies , jays , starlings , sparrows , bluetits and even the robin all trying their hand at getting to the fatsnax ! The pigeons come in and land on the roof of the bird table and have serious trouble working out how to get at the bird table without sliding off of the roof on the table - the idea of working out how to land and scoff from the feeder is way above their paygrade Therefore , one has to ask why the pigeon have one of the biggest populations around our towns and gardens when their IQ level is so poor ?
But for the starlings like above they seem to have more about them even if they are a raucous lot and get called " The Squabble Squad " here .
I took this shot through the open patio door standing in the middle of the living room .
I really dislike people being trained on a single decker. You need to have the awareness of a high vehicle, so you are looking for overhanging trees etc - and signs on bridges!
Through the side window you can see the sign for Bancroft's School, so we are in Woodford. Sensible size to learn on too.

On a recent walk among the Pitcher Plants I was content to simply walk and listen to the birds. Most of the Pitcher plants were not in full bloom and I have so many pictures of these unique blooms. It was a good feeling as a photographer to not feel the need to take a picture all the time. I can wait now until the right moment comes along and take time to explore what is really happening around me. It was then that I saw a bee fly to the bloom of this plant and he actually wiggled his way under the folded petals to get to the middle. I was surprised because I didn't think bees would be interested in this kind of plant. I don't know why I had that notion. I hope I can continue to be a lifelong learner in the next phase of my life.

I heard about the Kingfisher parents always shake and toss the fish's head before they feeding their chicks; seeing this young Kingfisher imitating the move with a stick was absolutely stunning! Very educational indeed!
When I introduced 8 month old Moustache last Caturday, I mentioned that he was wearing an e-collar because he lost a fight with the big black cat who lives next door. What I failed to mention, was that it was the SECOND time he had lost a fight with the big black cat who lives next door.
Can anyone say, "dumb as dirt"?
*No dumb kittens were harmed in the making of this photograph. All Pasta had to do was turn around and give Moustache the evil eye and he beat a hasty retreat.
**Actually, I had to lift Moustache off the treatment table since he couldn't beat a hasty retreat with an e-collar on.

Buster is a fast learner. It used to be the leash but now he grabs the oxygen mask instead. Patiently waits for me to put it on, then his custom one goes over his soft, sometimes running, nose but not before I'm wiping off his courageous drooling. He suddenly storms out the entry door like the buster he is.
We went to the lake yesterday. It was a nice day although tempered by the mixed feelings caused by the EPA dropping the "Good" from the AQI (air quality index) scale since it hadn't been used for a looong while. The announced "Unhealthy" air for the evening felt just right for a bit of paddle board. Buster also enjoyed the outdoors under the smoke dampened sun. He sat upright on my board most of the time, focused on the water - he hasn't seen a fish since last year when they all turned belly up for some ridiculous reason. It was fun returning back to the shore as I didn't have a clue where we're going, not being able to see much through the few downpours of soft ash rain.
Back inside now and to filter the air for a moment I'll do something I normally shy from, which is to share a tune for someone half way around the still blue planet, celebrating a special day. No related lyrics whatsoever, it's about good mood, 🎶 Haze and being a Disco Boy 🎶 to spice the air up a bit :) Happy special day -Jennie-!!! 🎶

Buses operated under contract to run in London must be red. Outside of London, in general operators use their own company livery - and also for training buses not used in service, as we see here, with Arriva's blue learner vehicles lined up at Enfield garage.
It happened again. Phil the Perch talked Spike the Pine Needle into going swimming even though Spike knows he can't swim. Not only that, Spike had to bring his whole family with him so everyone nearly drowned. Fortunately, Steve the Ibis was near by and saved Spike and his family!

North Table Mountain in Butte County, California, is the remainder of an ancient volcano flow, and ancient lava fields can still be found all over the mountain. It is famous for its spring wildflower displays, and this year was wonderful. These two wildflowers grow in crevices the lava rocks. The pink flower, which wasn’t quite blooming, is Lewisia rediviva, or Bitter root. The yellow is Sierra Mock Stonecrop (Sedella pumila). Both are California Natives.
At last started to see some young Kingfishers attempting to fish by themselves which is lovely to watch as they can be funny in the way they are busy practicing to find their own food. This particular Juvenile Male was doing very well and seemed to be very confident.
