how he came to be

Sat channel hopping last night when I came across a programme about cats in the womb. The programme compared domestic felines and lions. It was most interesting and Kaiser was fascinated to learn how he had been born

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_horse

The Arabian or Arab horse (Arabic: الحصان العربي ‎ [ ħisˤaːn ʕarabiː], DMG ḥiṣān ʿarabī) is a breed of horse that originated on the Arabian Peninsula. With a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world. It is also one of the oldest breeds, with archaeological evidence of horses in the Middle East that resemble modern Arabians dating back 4,500 years. Throughout history, Arabian horses have spread around the world by both war and trade, used to improve other breeds by adding speed, refinement, endurance, and strong bone. Today, Arabian bloodlines are found in almost every modern breed of riding horse.

The Arabian developed in a desert climate and was prized by the nomadic Bedouin people, often being brought inside the family tent for shelter and protection from theft. Selective breeding for traits including an ability to form a cooperative relationship with humans created a horse breed that is good-natured, quick to learn, and willing to please. The Arabian also developed the high spirit and alertness needed in a horse used for raiding and war. This combination of willingness and sensitivity requires modern Arabian horse owners to handle their horses with competence and respect.

The Arabian is a versatile breed. Arabians dominate the discipline of endurance riding, and compete today in many other fields of equestrian activity. They are one of the top ten most popular horse breeds in the world. They are now found worldwide, including the United States and Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, continental Europe, South America (especially Brazil), and its land of origin, the Middle East.

Welcome to your epic hero's journey! The beautiful 45surf goddess hath called ye to adventure, beckoning ye to read deeply Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, whence ye shall learn of yer own exalted artistic path guided by Hero's Journey Mythology. I wouldn't be saying it if it hadn't happened to me.

She was tall, thin, fit, and very pretty with long, blonde hair and blue eyes! From Sweden!

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II EF 24-105/4L IS USM was my workhorse until I got the Nikon D800 & D800E with the 70-200 mm 2.8 VR2 zoom.

Canon, Nikon, you can't go wrong with the pretty 45surf model goddesses! (Though the D800 is my new love.)

May the goddess inspire ye along a hero's journey of yer own making, and the path of yer own taking.

Was a classic socal autumn morning with a bright, blue, sunny sky! Hope the photos make you feel like you were there! :)

A Gold 45 Goddess exalts the archetypal form of Athena--the Greek Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason. A Gold 45 Goddess guards the beauty of dx4/dt=ic and embodies 45SURF's motto "Virtus, Honoris, et Actio Pro Veritas, Amor, et Bellus, (Strength, Honor, and Action for Truth, Love, and Beauty," and she stands ready to inspire and guide you along your epic, heroic journey into art and mythology. It is Athena who descends to call Telemachus to Adventure in the first book of Homer's Odyssey--to man up, find news of his true father Odysseus, and rid his home of the false suitors, and too, it is Athena who descends in the first book of Homer's Iliad, to calm the Rage of Achilles who is about to draw his sword so as to slay his commander who just seized Achilles' prize, thusly robbing Achilles of his Honor--the higher prize Achilles fought for. And now Athena descends once again, assuming the form of a Gold 45 Goddess, to inspire you along your epic journey of heroic endeavour.

A Gold 45 Goddess guards the wisdom of dx4/dt=ic -- my physics theory which appears on all the 45surf clothes. Yes I have a Ph.D. in physics! :) You can read more about my research and Hero's Journey Physics here:

Mid Orange Correctional Facility

Warwick, New York

August 2023

Location History

At the foothills of the beautiful Ramapo mountains in New York, lies the sleepy village of Warwick.

The outskirts of Warwick give way to deep woods which lead toward Wickham lake.

Sitting on the banks of Wickham lake, is a 740-acre complex of foreboding buildings.

Get ready to serve some time at the dark and daunting Mid-Orange Correctional Facility!

New York’s State Training School for Boys officially opened on July 1, 1932 with 200 boys already on site, and many buildings that wouldn’t be completed until 1934. Prior to opening, the location also served as the first in-patient substance abuse facility in the United States.

Housing an average of 400 boys, most between the ages of 13 and 15, this facility provided endangered youths an opportunity to work in the kitchen, maintenance, groundskeeping, on the farm, and to learn a variety of vocational and technical programs.

In The 1950’s Richard Biegenwald spent time in the facility as a teenager, eventually being released and committing the serial murders of at least 9 until his capture in 1983.

The 1960’s saw teenagers as old as 20 lying about their age to avoid prison. Also, within the facility came the rise of escapes, abuse, gangs, pimps, and violence.

On March 30, 1962, 15-year-old Charles McBride was sent to the facility and house in Cottage B-1. On October 23, 1962, Charles McBride was beaten in the bathroom by the husband of a cottage wife. A short time later, McBride was reported as hanging from a sheet and bedspread tied over the rafter above his bed. The man that had beaten McBride loosened the knot of the makeshift noose, resulting in McBride falling to the floor and hitting his head, which became the official cause of death.

In 1976, the State Training School for Boys was renamed Mid-Orange Correctional Facility and began a conversion to become an adult male prison. By this time, many of the boys were repeat offenders who would escape or attempt to commit other crimes. The first adult male inmates arrived on June 29, 1977.

In 1979, all guards at the facility walked out, which resulted in the National Guard being sent to lock them out of their homes on the grounds.

By 1984, the AIDS epidemic resulted in nearly 5% of Inmates at Mid-Orange Correctional Facility contracting the disease and being isolated in the infirmary to die.

While the typical number of inmates held at Mid-Orange Correctional Facility was around 750, the population grew to over 1,000 by 1989.

In June 2011, Mid-Orange Correctional Facility closed along with six other state prisons in an effort at consolidation.

The town of Warwick and the Warwick Valley Local Development Corporation took ownership of the property in 2014.

Between 2015 and 2018, areas of the property became known as Hudson Sports Complex, a town park known as Wickham Woodlands, and a brewery named Drowned Lands Brewery. These changes were made or continued under the ownership of Christian and Raluca Fuchs, who acquired the property in November of 2018.

Containing areas with adaptive sports for those with disabilities, Hudson Sports Complex opened in January 2019. The Drowned Lands Brewery began operations in the spring of 2020

Jockey’s Ridge State Park, Nags Head, NC. The PERFECT spot to learn to sail through the skies like a bird on the wind currents! On top of the highest dunes (100 ft tall) is where the Hang Gliding School gives lessons. Today was the first day that i have been there when it was rather active for lessons. After watching the first person, i am not all that sure i could do this UNLESS i had the instructor hanging off the back of me for the whole time!! LOL! The girl i saw doing this seemed fraught with trepidation at the thought of allowing the wind to lift her kite into the air with her dangling from it!! Yep... i could just imagine myself in her position, freaking out as i was lifted off the ground by the wind, then deliberately crash landing and laughing to the point of tears in relief!! ! I will admit that when she finally was guided with a running start to the edge of the dune, and actually DID lift off, it was kinda neat as she floated to the base of the dune with the instructor hanging on the straps in the back to help guide her to a soft landing on the sand below. He was totally stoked and chatty, telling her how AWESOME that was....judging by her lack of agreement i was kinda thinking that maybe she was in shock and could not wait to get away from that insane instructor!!

This shot is a total fabrication of my imagination at work....The original shot was much less inspiring and fun! i had some play time in PS5 and now i am going to treat myself to a quiet evening with a book! Have a wonderful weekend!! (AND a special shout out to a dear friend who is running his 45th full marathon this weekend!! Proud of you!! Godspeed!)

I was working on two of my photographic projects, then Carnival arrived, I put aside what I had done up until then, and so I created this group of photographs; they are shots taken during the Carnival which took place in Taormina center (Taormina alta) and in Trappitello (fraction of Taormina, the plain part of Taormina, located towards the hinterland; there is also Taormina seaside, but this part is not was affected by the Carnival). Carnival, from a photographic point of view, has always interested me not for its allegorical floats, not for its beautiful or refined masks, but for the people who find themselves "behind the masks", for their emotions, the their ability to have fun, to uninhibit themselves, even in front of the camera. I photographed a detail of the float dedicated to the mayor of Taormina, Cateno De Luca, I photographed boys and girls from the masked groups who paraded through the city streets, as well as boys and girls not belonging to any group, who had fun with clothes invented for the 'occasion; despite having placed heterogeneous photographs, I mostly followed a theme that refers to a work by Andy Warhol, an iconic figure of Pop Art as well as being one of the most important artists of the 20th century, ideally linking myself for its creation to the allegorical float of Pop Art of Taormina.

I conclude, I dedicate this work to the flicker-friend White Angel, hoping to please her.

www.flickr.com/photos/white-angel/

……………….

learn something new every day. When I set up this shot I knew my tripod would be in the water. I hadn't really thought about how the water would make the tripod sink in the sand... much like your feet do when you stand in sand with the outgoing water. If you look closely to the right of the far right rock you can see the ghost of how the camera moved during exposure.

Zabriskie Point

The popular vista was built by the Pacific Coast Borax Company in the 1920s and was named after the company's vice president and general manager, Christian Zabriskie. The site was originally intended as a waystop for visitors in automobiles to see Manly Beacon, the prominent landmark in Death Valley's "Badlands". It remains as one of the most visited areas within the park.

Due to prevalent fall and winter precipitation in the park, wildflowers are abundant on alluvial fans and in swales and gulleys across the park landscape.

See dramatic badlands from two vantage points

Every imaginable shade of gold--from orange to apricot to school-bus yellow--is visible in the wrinkled Golden Canyon cliffs, whose folded and eroded layers glow at sunrise and sunset. Pick your favourite perspective: Drive to Zabriskie Point and survey the scene from on high, or see the vibrant beauty up close by hiking in Golden Canyon. For casual sightseers, Zabriskie Point (off Hwy. 190) offers a stunning view of the multi-hued badlands from a 100-yard-long paved trail.

"It’s one of the park’s most photographed viewpoints and a busy spot at sunset."

It’s one of the park’s most photographed viewpoints and a busy spot at sunset. The Golden Canyon hike starts from the opposite side (off Badwater Road, 3.5 miles/5.6 km southeast of the visitor center). It’s a moderate out-and-back of about two miles, which can be extended into 5.5-mile/9-km loop. From the parking area, the trail heads gently uphill through soft canyon walls colourfully banded in yellow, beige, and cream, which signifies the presence of different minerals. Be sure to go the extra few steps to Red Cathedral, a towering cliff coloured red by the weathering of iron-rich rocks.

www.visitcalifornia.com/attraction/golden-canyon-zabriski...

The largest national park south of Alaska, Death Valley is known for extremes: It is North America's driest and hottest spot (with fewer than two inches/five centimeters of rainfall annually and a record high of 134°F), and has the lowest elevation on the continent—282 feet below sea level. Even with its extremes, the park still receives nearly a million visitors each year.

In 1849 emigrants bound for California's gold fields strayed into the 120-mile long basin, enduring a two-month ordeal of "hunger and thirst and an awful silence." One of the last to leave looked down from a mountain at the narrow valley and said, "Good-bye, Death Valley."

The moniker belies the beauty in this vast graben, the geological term for a sunken fragment of the Earth's crust. Here are rocks sculptured by erosion, richly tinted mudstone hills and canyons, luminous sand dunes, lush oases, and a 200-square-mile salt pan surrounded by mountains, one of America's greatest vertical rises. In some years spring rains trigger wildflower blooms amid more than a thousand varieties of plants.

Native Americans, most recently the Shoshone, found ways to adapt to the more recent and forbidding desert conditions that exist here now. Rock art and artifacts indicate a human presence dating back at least 9,000 years.

From 1883 to 1889, wagon teams hauled powdery white borax from mines since fallen to ruin, an enterprise that spread word of Death Valley's striking landscapes, deep solitude, and crystalline air.

As night falls, Death Valley's elusive populations of bobcats, kit foxes, and rodents venture out. Far above on steep mountain slopes, desert bighorn sheep forage among Joshua trees, scrubby junipers, and pines, while hawks soar on thermals rising into vivid blue, cloudless skies.

Did You Know?

The highest mountain in the park, 11,049-foot Telescope Peak, lies only 15 miles from Badwater Basin, the lowest point in the U.S. The vertical drop from the peak to Badwater Basin is twice the depth of the Grand Canyon.

Named by gold prospectors struggling through the area in 1849, Death Valley has been inhabited by Timbisha Shoshone Native Americans; gold prospectors, including slaves; Chinese immigrants mining for silver and borax; Basque immigrants who settled here at the turn of the 20th century; and Japanese Americans temporarily interned here during World War II.

If there's one bit of simple advice I can give, today, it is this: LEARN TO SAY 'NO'. Say it to the things and people that make you uncomfortable. Listen to your instincts and know when enough is enough for you and the ride is no longer fun or something you'll regret later. There's no shame in walking away. You don't even have to explain yourself.

Say it with me... NO.
