We are forced by our surroundings to learn how to swim again and again. You think, you are done, but the waters seem to change, flow in an opposite direction than you expect or even creates maelstroms. The changes to our lives are constant. If you ask me, it is not better for any individual. You think you mastered floating around, but NO, life forces you to change from comfortable breaststroke to a powerful crawl. Do not expect anybody to throw you a life saver. You are on your own, buddy.

The TransCanada Highway, connecting Canadians from coast to coast a feat of engineering we can all be proud of, fueled by determination from yester year that I sometimes wonder could be replicated in todays day and age. This shot depicts Chippewa Falls found about 55 kms due north of Sault Ste. Marie and marks the halfway point of the TransCanada Highway and an understandable place for a rest stop. The great thing about living in a place where its covered with ice and snow 4 solid months of the year is that you learn to appreciate things in their cycle and make the best of the of it when nature makes things less hospitable.
I took this on Sept 21rst, 2021 with my D850 and Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2 Lens at 35mm, 1/6s, f11 ISO 64 processed in LR, PS +Topaz ,and DXO

MINIMAL - Gas Station Scene
This is what I’ll be missing over the next few days, classic north eastern storm weather. The sea’s are rough at the moment and soon to be very rough, it’s a strain to be sitting here at my desk but it has to be done, it’s a good job I took hundreds last year when I could. Here is one I took back in August at Seaham, I haven’t posted many from this session as I’ve tended to concentrate on my Roker photo’s, which I believe are some of the best I’ve taken to date. I continuing my learning curve with Photoshop and luminosity masks, I’m also starting to see a better mono conversion in Photoshop as well. Lightroom tends to go blotchy when you try to pull out those darker greys with the colour slides, in Photoshop that process seems more subtle. With more time on my hands on late I might as well booster my processing skills as my camera skills are going nowhere. If you have time count the seagulls

I stumbled upon Kim Leuenberger's Instagram images (www.instagram.com/travellingcars/) today and found some inspiration for today's pic. I am starting to feel better and decided to walk down my block with my toy van this morning. Most of our snow has melted away but I found a small pile to set my van in for effect. I decided to work in Photoshop with cloning and adding texture. There is always more to learn but I am trying, baby stepping along the way. Have a great day and thank you all for the well wishes, they did the trick!

Just returned from a visit to my second home (Portugal) and I'm busy culling more than 1500 photos taken during the trip.
I found myself shooting more 'abstracts and graphics' than usual (the above photo a case in point)... must have been the mood I was in? I did visit the coastline almost daily so there are many seascape images to consider for development but even those tended to take on an abstract character (influence of Hiroshi Sugimoto perhaps?). I did considerably less street work than I usually do when in Portugal but that was simply because I wasn't out on the streets that often. That circumstance and the fact that I have become aware that European laws prohibit taking people pics without their explicit permission has dampened my zeal for street photography in Portugal (somewhat).

Northern Gannets are monogamous and mate for life, very much like albatrosses. Pairs form, and renew their bonds, at the breeding colony, called a gannetry, which may contain thousands of pairs in close proximity to each other. Young birds also return to the colony in their second or third year, forming “clubs” of birds that rest together and begin to learn the local fishing routes. Males begin to claim a breeding site in a colony in their third or fourth year, shaking their head side to side frequently, biting the nest site itself, and stretching the neck toward females that show interest. Clashes between males over nest sites can be intense, with bills locked and much pushing at the cliff edge; injuries are not uncommon. Once partnered, male and female greet each other at the nest site each time they reunite, the males shaking the head, the females offering the nape for the male to nibble. They also engage in so-called “mutual fencing,” wherein they face each other, often touching, calling, shaking heads side to side as their bills clack together, bowing, and finally preening each other’s neck. Both parents care for and feed the young, taking turns on fishing excursions that may last several days. Both sexes defend the nest and chicks aggressively against other gannets, using threat displays such as jabbing with the bill.
First shot out of my new camera. The old one had a issue with holding in the SD card. But a quick call to B&H and a new upgrade was in the mail. Now I need to get it all set up so that I can start to learn how to use it. An amazing camera, but I will have a bit to learn.
How much more there is now to living! Instead of our drab slogging forth and back to the fishing boats, there’s reason to life! We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill. We can be free! We can learn to fly!
