Leap Year 2016 ~ our 366 days & the 29th of Feb ...

Are you a leaper ?

The chance of being born on a leap day is one in 1,461.

For centuries, astrologists believed children born on a leap day have unusual talents, unique personalities and even special powers. The poet Lord Byron was born on a leap day, I love his poems ...

The sword, the banner, and the field,

Glory and Greece, around me see!

The Spartan, borne upon his shield,

Was not more free.

❣ Many Thanks for your comments & your ★s ❣

♥ Wishing you all a fantastic-, happy- and healthy New Year!!♥

I can't do much leaping these days but I did manage to jump.

Well, to celebrate today being the 29th of February a Leap day...which only occurs every four years, here's a re-post of a leaping red squirrel from last year at the British wildlife centre....so Happy "LEAP DAY" Everybody...:)

(I GO TO CONFESSION TOMORROW) Heeeee

I was a bit disappointed as we took quite a while to finish our dinner and the sun has already set below the tree lined horizon. We decided to walk to the beach and took a leisurely evening stroll. Then Serendipitously, this scene appeared before our eyes!

Love the golden lights of dusk over the bay at Rosebud, Mornington Peninsular. There were no outboard motors or any form of machinery, just simple boats and anglers enjoying the serenity and leisurely pace. Serenity? Nostalgia? and such moments seldom last more than a few minutes

Water Front Willow Tree's are showing some Spring Bud's.

Living in the northern hemisphere, I've always wondered why the extra day of leap year is tacked onto the end of February. Would much rather it occur in summer. Having a July 32 wouldn't bother me a bit. But it is what it is. This leap year found me out with the camera exploring the aftermath of a late winter storm. The light and sky were magnificent and that's what brought me out. It's often that way; I see a sky like this and out I go with no particular destination or photo concept in mind. I just let the universe guide me and improvise from there. This day the universe vectored me to this 'blow zone' as I refer to them. Sometimes the wind, temperature and snow conditions combine to create corridors of moving snow. This isn't snow falling from the sky, rather wind channeling already fallen snow into specific pathways. They are most often observed streaming across roads that are perpendicular to the prevailing wind and adjacent to large expanses of open ground. Dormant farmland is an absolutely perfect setup. As a motorist, these things are a hassle at best and can be downright dangerous. Visibility decreases to zero once you enter the zone, and a dry road can turn into inches deep snow cover in a matter of feet. Entering a zone like this at high speed can have tragic consequences. Despite the danger, I've always been. attracted to the haunting visual quality. It's really surreal to see such a visible depiction of wind flow. It's unusual to see a such a localized weather phenomenon with defined edges that you can literally walk up to. I love photographing and experiencing boundary lines and even better when nature creates them for me. Getting this close outside of the warmth and protection of my car was jarring. The snow stream looks amorphous and therefore harmless. But in reality it flows like a torrent; the cold is penetrating, and the snow forms into a fine diamond dust spray that is disorienting, blinding and shockingly cold on exposed skin. The sound is deafening and I found it difficult to stand still and hold the camera steady. Photographically there was just no way to work inside the stream, and the photos showed little more than a white blur. I found the best approach was to stand off a bit and try to contrast the blur of the stream against the adjacent landscape. As I walked out of the stream, a big gust kicked up; I turned back and captured this scene. My 2020 leap day was complete.

66 Leap Year - 120 pictures in 2020

This theme was to be taken on 29 Feb, but on this day I had a long drive from Scotland to home … 580 miles in 10 hours. So before leaving Scotland I took a quick snap of water leaping over a rock :))) Hope that's OK :)))

Went out yesterday, looking for a moose family that has been hanging around the area, and instead of coming across them, we found another cow and yearling even closer. For much of the day, they were bedded down in the aspens with entirely too many branches in the way, but around 4:00, they decided to get up and feed, and I was able to capture a few decent shots. I think we have counted at least 15 different moose now that are within a five mile radius of our home.

Have a great Sunday!!!

Mariah is such a superstar on either side of the camera. She came up with this idea and the location (Plum Island, MA). What an unforgettable time. :)

One of my contacts suggested that I post a photo from my living room on the last day of every month. Thanks Keith

"Adventure before dementia"

Can I suggest you take the same photo on the last day of every month; together they would make an interesting record of the passing months and seasons.

As you can see no snow visible.

Happy Leap Day! Hurrah for an extra day to take pictures.

A very happy 2012 to all my friends:)

"....the sun shines for you he said the day we were lying among the rhododendrons on Howth Head in the grey tweed suit the day I got him to propose to me yes first I gave him the bit of seedcake out of my mouth and it was a leapyear like now 16 years ago my God after that long kiss I near lost my breath yes he said I was a flower of the mountain yes so we are all flowers all a womans body yes that was one true thing he said in his life and the sun shines for you today yes..."

Pat the photographer wanted to commemorate this special *extra* day that comes only once every 4 years. His flexible friend, a sock monkey aptly enough named Socko, happily did the exuberant leaping for the photo shoot........Pat and Socko do feel badly for those who have 2/29 as their official birthday.

My sister and I took the day off to hang out with our family visiting from the Philippines and Chicago. There were 9 of us touring around the city and we took them on basically every mode of transportation NYC has to offer! We totally rocked out the $7.50 cost of an unlimited metrocard! =) Don't you love beating the system ever so often? I think we used it 9 times that day!

This photo was taken from the Staten Island ferry port in Staten Island. The weather was sooooooooooo beautiful that day and the clouds made beautiful formations. So picturesque!

Happy February 1st and a reminder that Valentine's Day is around the corner and that 2024 is a leap year.

My sympathies extend to all salaried employees who find themselves working an additional day this year without compensation.

Sometimes a small step takes a leap of faith. I took this shot for Leap Day yesterday - still works for it being leap year.😎👍

Yes, we do need a *bookmark* for February! Couldn't resist using one of my favorite charms which comes in two pieces with the option of selecting the *belly bead* . . . ribbit ribbit!

The watercolor is an oldie but goodie, one of my rare attempts using this medium! It just worked for this month's calendar!

But the best part is the beautiful wooden base, handmade

by the husband of my dear flickr friend, Julie (the smiley lady).

366/365 -Around the house - Day 366

---------------------------------------------------------------

May we all have more love in 2021

Love for ourselves and love for one another

---------------------------------------------------------------

My resolutions are as they are every day, no matter what year.

I may not succeed completely, but each new day arrives for me to give it another go:

Treat each one as I want to be treated

Be patient

Relax my mind

Try to make good things better

Take care not to make bad things worse

I also try to remember:

Negativity exists, but there is no need to embrace it

Fear can cripple, there is no reason to cherish it

Ignorance will prevail but there is the ability to learn

Compromise is not a four letter word

Working toward solutions is better than constant complaining

Smiles feel better than frowns

---------------------------------------------------------------

But the most important thing (wink-wink):

Always bring your camera

---------------------------------------------------------------

About the picture: Cyclamen buds stretching up to become blossoms. I didn't notice the heart shape in the photo at first and even though I had better shots to post, I decided to use this for my final daily shot for 2020. I completed my first attempt at a 365 day project, which ended up being 366 days, since 2020 was a Leap Year. May try again in the future, but not quite sure, There are plenty of other themes here to keep me busy if I should want to participate.

going back in time: the 5 day C O R R E C T I O N {December 24 // 356}

• home, Canada

In truth, my project does not end on December 28th, but January 3rd to make consecutive pictures taken to complete the 366 project. I discovered a few weeks back -- with a friend of mine -- that the Gregorian calendar dropped 10 days to bring it back into synchronization with the seasons some hundreds of years ago. P O O F, just like that, gone, 10 days! I don't know why I find this perplexing, but I do. Later that same evening we found out that there have been many proposed calendars since then, including the World Calendar, which was created by our very own Elisabeth Achelis of Brooklyn, New York.

I think I like this Calendar as my birthday would fall on the same day every year (a Sunday). To make up for leap years and seasonal changes, she created something called 'Worldsday' and 'Leapyear' day. Worldsday takes the place of December 31st, and is a year-end holiday before January 1st. In other words, its a day with no date, number and would count as a day off. How cool is that? I'm sold, where do I buy one of these calendars?

As I have no need to propose to anyone, I shall jump instead.

(does this count for the 366 weekly theme of Flight?!)

66/120 Leap Year

and for WAH - photos taken in February

Bring it on, we're ready to leap!

From Leap Year, exhibition of the South Korean artist Haegue Yang (1971) in the Kunsthal Rotterdam.

Today is leap day, February 29, 2024. An extra day to appreciate the simple beauty of a pink hibiscus flower. No leaping necessary.

If there is anything I learned about myself during the first year of this 365 stuff, it's that I totally suck at jumping. I never actually uploaded a jumping shot because that's how bad I suck at it.

I really wanted to do this 'leaping for leap day' thingy and had so many visions in my head, but the sad truth is that it's just not possible for me to accomplish those visions. Especially today.

That 2 1/2 mile walk we did two days ago . . . it broke me. My leg joints hurt, even when I'm sitting still. Especially my knees. From 2 1/2 miles. Pathetic, I know. Anyhow, the measely jump that I did manage to accomplish for today (using my bed, of course, so I was more than 2 inches off the ground) wasn't exactly easy, but it's the best I can do.

At least I do Urban Acid well! :D

Take a photo every day in 2012 no restrictions no exceptions

As expected there was just a light covering of snow, in fact at the other end of the street it was raining with everything in between, Over night we didn't have the carpet of snow so there's no "Last Snow Ever To Fall In Yardley Wood" contribution.

My Website

not the most elegant leap ever. but i'm impressed with it for several reasons:

it was super rainy and windy when i went out to shoot this, so I had to fight the umbrella flipping inside out at every turn.

and this was shot on FILM! and the camera was wrapped in a towel so it wouldn't get wet, and propped up to the right angle (guessing) and focused by guessing (incorrectly, as it turned out). and the timer was completely a guess. I lucked out. Out of 5 frames I shot, this was the only one where I was in the air. yay! :)

explore #4.

I was going to take a photo of myself leaping but couldnt find the remote and I had a willing 4 year old to volunteer. Abbie has named this her mary poppins photo.
