Programme for the play 'The Heiress', by Ruth and Augustus Goetz, being staged by repertory company The Queen's Players at the Hippodrome and Queen's Theatre in Keighley for one week from Monday 17th September 1951.
Players in the company included April Andrew, Edward Ballard, Edmund Bennett, Robert Bett, Gina Bon, Rosita Cussins, Eric Evans, Peter Fox, Philip Ingram, Janet MacKenzie, Evelyn Napier, Sheila Price, Anna Richardson, Olive Simpson, and Paddy Ward. The play was produced by Philip Ingram. Linda Dale accompanied proceedings on the piano.
The programme also includes adverts for Fred's Ice Cream ("made in one of Yorkshire's most modern dairies"); H. Wilkinson (Murphy and Hoover dealer) of The Arcade on North Street; Edward Foulds (Motor Engineers) Ltd. of Cavendish Street; J. Scheerer & Sons (sound firm) of Leeds; C. Holmes (plumber and sanitary engineer) of Sandywood Street; Collette (smart ladies' fashion shop) of East Parade; Jack Hey (joiner and undertaker) of Albert Yard; E. Crawshaw (Keighley vac sweep service) of Manville Walk; John W. Laycock Ltd. (fireplace specialists) of North Street; Timothy Taylor's Prize Ales ("for men of the north"); Jennett and Scaife (high class dressmakers) of East Parade; A. Lord & Co. (furnishers and undertakers) of High Street; Renee (coats, suits and gowns) of South Street; and Windser Pottery of North Street.
The 1950s was a turbulent decade in the history of the Hippodrome and Queen's Theatre in Keighley. Long-time Managing Director Francis Laidler (who also owned the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford) died in 1955 and was succeeded by his widow Gwladys. Television was providing a significant challenge to theatre-going by the middle of the decade, and the Hippodrome had to try more extreme forms of entertainment to draw in the crowds. But to no avail, and the theatre finally closed its doors in 1956, before being demolished in 1961 to make way for the new town centre's multi-storey car park.
The item was donated to Keighley and District Local History Society by Tim Neal in 2022. It is held in the History Society's physical archive.

Simple pictures are an effective way of communicating safety messages. This is an example of one of the leaflets distributed.

Election communication from John Swinney in support of SNP candidates in Mid Scotland and Fife in the 2003 Scottish Elections
John Swinney joined the SNP in the early 1980s and was the secretary of the Young Scottish Nationalists. He served in a number of posts within the SNP such as National Secretary, Vice-Convenor for Publicity. Deputy Leader and then Leader from 2000-2004. He was elected MP for Tayside North in 1997 before becoming MSP for the same constituency in 1999. He served as Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Development in the SNP minority government 2007-2011.

This design uses the 6 titles as the structure for organising the other typographic material. So no formal grid. The typography still adheres to those first principles of one typeface, one change of size one change of weight. In terms of type/information hierarchy I rarely found it necessary to go beyond this. Too many shifts in emphasis can be confusing and there comes a point where you just get confused and lost and the hierarchy is no longer working as a clear navigation.

This is a World War II era leaflet with a message to the people of Denmark. Here's what the message says:
"This flyer has been dropped by an American crew in an American bomber. President Roosevelt said in his speech to Congress on January 7th, 1943: "We will hit -- and we will hit hard. I cannot if we will attack the enemy through Norway, the Netherlands, France, Sardinia, Sicily, the Balkans, or Poland, or we will attack simultaneously at more than one place. But, one thing I can say -- no matter where and when we attack the enemy, we, the English and the Russians will hit hard from the air, without giving them one moment of rest. We will drop tons of bombs relentlessly over their armaments facotories, war depots and harbors. The American Air Forces have now started the attack on these targets."

In Edinburgh, Campaign Against Animal Research Experiments (CAARE - caare.org.uk/) held a very successful campaign stall in the Scottish capital on 17th May.
With banners, a couple of rabbit costumes, plenty of posters, and a bit of street theatre, they really got the message across. More pics from their day at: caare.org.uk/pictures/17mayboycottpandg/
"Dressed in costumes, in Edinburgh, after helping our very own Ranting Rabbit escape the evil scientist outside Registry House, and some street theatre, we made our way to supermarkets in town - raising awareness and giving cruelty-free cards and leaflets to shoppers. It was fantastic as people went into the store with our leaflet, came back out and said 'Where do I get a cruelty-free washing up liquid?' It is so easy to boycott cruelty - let's do this!"
Saturday 17th May 2008 was the 12th annual Global Boycott Procter & Gamble (P&G) Day. P&G routinely poison & kill animals to develop new cosmetics (eg. Olay, Max factor, Pantene), cleaning products (eg. Daz, Flash, Ariel) and even their 'pet' food brand (Iams/Eukanuba).

Rextoys leaflet listing variations of the Cadillac V16 1938-40 in 1:43 scale.
As only the Cadillac seems to have been in production, with future intended releases mentioned in vague terms, it seems to be a very early printing from this manufacturer.
Although the address for the company is in Switzerland, the model with which it was included is marked as being made in Portugal. I have other Rextoys which were made in France.

Leaflet from Promotional Models detailing code 3 versions of Matchbox Yesteryear models - mostly Ford Model T vans, with a Pickfords breakdown truck and a Royal Mail Talbot van. This was included with another of their vans, a Golden Shred Talbot, so not all their products are illustrated here. Photos of my Golden Shred van wil be on this site. It says that all releases are limited to 500.

A leaflet published to coincide with the summer 1990 rail timetable, promoting rail travel on the Sheffield to Huddersfield route.
On this 1990 timetable there were a mere four trains each way on Sundays. Today there are twenty-two Sunday passenger services on the route, six of which are extended to Lincoln Central.
