1989 Schwinn Prelude. No, this ain't a fixie or some fancy Campy'd-out Italian job. It's the Toyota Camry of bikes — silky smooth ride and shifting, not super light but not heavy, just fast enough, decent Japanese components that are easily fixed or replaced, and a good lugged steel frame. A strictly midrange ride from that era, but good enough for my 2006 booze cruising and bike/bus commuting.
I bought it in near-deadstock condition with all original equipment except for the Schwinn Paramount water cage. The bike looked like it had been ridden gently for less than 100 miles.
I've since made it more urban roadster-ish by adding a Rivendell/Nitto Albatross bar with different levers and rubber grips, thicker 26mm tires, touring pedals without clips, and CatEye lights. Mike and Kevin from Mike's Bike Shop hooked up the bars. Future changes may include a higher stem, even thicker tires (spacing is an issue, though), a round chainwheel, prettier Sugino cranks, cork grips, or bar-end shifters. At this point I'll have enough spare parts to make another bike. A single-speed, perhaps?

Trek Soho 3.0 2008.
My modifications:
- Plastic fenders
- Rack (luggage carrier).
- Bicycle basket, perfect for the backpack to relieve the shoulders and avoid a sweaty back. Permanently attached with plastic straps.
- Two locks: frame lock and Steel-O-Flex 1000 (both from Abus)
- Transmission: 11-26/22-32-44 instead of the original 11-32/26-36-48 (higher cadence, closer gears). Edit: New chain (SRAM PC-951) and cassette (Tiagra 12-25) after 3000 km.
- Wellgo pedals with plastic clips (the original pedals didn't have holes for the straps). I know that SPD is better, but for short distance commuting this is a good compromise since it doesn't require special shoes. EDIT: Upgraded to SPD pedals (Shimano's PD-M324 with SPD on one side and platform on the other).
- Kickstand
- Cateye Mity 8 (computer)
- Cateye HL-EL530 (LED head light)
- Cateye TL-LD1000 (LED tail light)

I've been commuting with my mtb these few weeks and enjoying it. It is 30-minute ride through some crazy road (Jln Eunos) but very satisfying.
Back view. My 2007 Kona Lana'i parked just behind where I sit, at the office. I added some lights (a Cat Eye HL-EL135 in front and a Cat Eye TL-LD1000 behind) and a mirror (Cat Eye BC-500G) for safety. I also have an Amoeba JY-R1 rack connected to the seat post.
Update: Also changed the front light to a brighter Cat Eye HL-EL320 (1000 candlepower) and moved the HL-EL135 to the fork.
My helmet is a basic Prowell with a small red LED attached to the back and a small white LED attached to the front.
I also affixed a Cat Eye Velo 8 cyclo-computer, an entry-level device that gives me the important info I need.
The Chainstay Guard is a red Lizard Skins.
