Taken along the Wolf Tree Trail at Smith Rock on a hot summer evening just ahead of golden hour. The Wolf Tree Trail follows Crooked River upstream to the north end of the park. The tallest spire seen right of center forms Monument Rock. If you look very closely about 2/3 of the way up the rock you'll find two tiny dark dots - golden eagle nests. The largest of the nests easily measures six feet in diameter and about the same in depth.
The day after Christmas Day and all is quiet, looking out into Plymouth sound. In fact no sounds in Plymouth sound.

Pippi wants to thank Bob of the Happy Caturday group for choosing "Laziness" as the theme this week. Pippi feels that Mack has been a little over-represented on my photostream lately and she can out-lazy anyone!! I took photos all day long, every day this week, of Pippi being lazy. Most were too embarrassing to her to post but I'll go with two this week. Here she is on a heated mat in the sunshine. Unlike Mack who curls into a tight ball when he sleeps, Pippi stretches out - showing off her big, bald belly.
I'll post another photo that isn't quite so unflattering.

This is the only pic I was able to snap before lag and crashing got me.
Lazy Mountain rises above Palmer, Alaska to a height of 3,720 feet above sea level. It's definitely not the tallest peak in the Mat-Su Valley, Pioneer Peak has that title. I was at one of the overlooks on the Glenn Highway as the sun was going down and captured this image as a sequence of six shots taken in portrait mode and stitched together in Panarama Maker and then cropped and developed in Lightroom. Of course if I had a 50 megapixel sensor it would have been just one shot ;) The resultant cropped image is 7560 x 3780 pixels, but unfortunately I've limited what you can view in Flickr, so you can't see the amazing detail in the image. I see Lazy Mountain every time I drive around the valley and you can tell by the bowl shape in the center that there once existed a glacier on that mountain.

Another kitty in the grass, after yesterday's photo of Sethi it's Cleo's turn today. Normally Cleo doesn't like the long grass and prefers the freshly mowed lawn but she has started to behave strange recently. She is quite relaxed, sometimes even almost happy and not at all like her usual grumpy self. :)
I made my first trip to Tehachapi twenty years go this month and have been very fortunate that the Pass is 'more or less' on the way to New Zealand as this week was my 26th visit.
Some have been week-long endeavours, many have been a few days on the way somewhere, and one was a merely a brief half-day distraction to fill in 24-hours in LAX due to a flight being cancelled.
Since moving to NZ, every visit feels like it will probably be the last. Added to being on the go for a few weeks now, it would be fair to say that this was one of my laziest visits ever. No early morning starts, not much exploring, few new angles. Still, sometimes the lazy trainspotter is rewarded.
In common with every railway line any railfan has ever visited, I wish I'd gotten here a few years earlier to see the pure SF and SP. Still, I'm grateful to have seen it at all. Even twenty years on, I'm still fascinated by the place.
