The common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) is a species of large freshwater turtle in the family Chelydridae. Its natural range extends from southeastern Canada, southwest to the edge of the Rocky Mountains, as far east as Nova Scotia and Florida. The three species of Chelydra and the larger alligator snapping turtles (genus Macrochelys) are the only extant chelydrids, a family now restricted to the Americas. The common snapping turtle, as its name implies, is the most widespread.
Zebra Spider Wasp (family Pompilidae)
The same wasp that featured on Monday. This shot was a few minutes earlier as it laid its eggs in the spider.
We have really good news about Di. The oncologist requested an MRI and blood tests on Monday. As we were getting her things together yesterday (Wednesday) for her to go to hospital today the call came through that the scan showed that the cyst had gone and her blood count was normal, so no surgery! She will have further scans and blood tests in a month. It's a miracle!

I have pinched nerve in my shoulder and cannot move my left arm much so I am laying low this weekend. Here's a couple of month old pic of a Fisherbird laying low instead of diving from up in a windy afternoon @ Merritt Island NWR

Way too hot with terrible air quality to be outside for long, unless you can get really low - Daisy's got the right technique. :)
Elegant Lynx Spider (Oxyopes elegans)
I often see Hoverflies and Flies perched on this dead branch, the spider must know that too!
The FCEN Railroad pulls out of Kissimmee Siding to continue putting down rail by the main line. The train met several Amtraks during the day, so this was the second time he pulled out of the siding in a not-so-lengthy time period. The line will be double-tracked for Phase 2 of the Sunrail project, expanding the commuter rail service further south out of Orlando.

With no real way to know when the train would show, Matthew and I stood out by the river (or, layed) in the on and off rain waiting for GB101 to cross the bridge. I don't think the person who owned this waterfront property was home, thankfully...
One of many which were "singing" in the Dr. Josip Avelini Park in Hvar :)
The Cicadoidea (cicadas) are a superfamily of insects in the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha. They have an exceptionally loud song, produced not by stridulation but by vibrating drumlike tymbals rapidly. They typically live in trees, feeding on sap, and laying their eggs in a slit in the bark. Most cicadas are cryptic, singing at night to avoid predators. They are found on all continents, except Antarctica, mostly in warmer climate. Although only males produce the cicadas' distinctive sound, both sexes have membraneous structures called tympana by which they detect sounds; the equivalent of having ears. Some cicadas produce sounds up to 120 dB which is among the loudest of all insect-produced sounds.

Jedna z wileu cykad "grających" w Parku Doktora Josipa Aveliniego w Hvarze :)
Socotra cormorant Phalacrocorax nigrogularis is endemic to Arabia, found nowhere else across the globe apart from the Arabian Gulf and Arabian Sea.
Socotra cormorant is among the most skilled fish-catching birds in Bahrain and Arabian Gulf. It dives more than 10 m chasing fish underwater.
The nesting colony of Socotra cormorant Phalacrocorax nigrogularis on Hawar Island, south of Bahrain, is among the largest in the world. As the case with other cormorant species, nesting colonies of Socotra cormorant fluctuate widely in size over time.
Socotra cormorant lays eggs in small depressions in the ground with thousands of dense nests forming sizable breeding colonies. As such, heavy rain and cold winter temperatures often lead to mass mortality of eggs and chicks.
Seagulls are among key predators of Socotra cormorant Phalacrocorax nigrogularis on Hawar Islands. Despite continuous protection by parents, gulls succeed to prey on cormorant’s eggs and young chicks.

I'm not sure what this beetle is. It was iridescent green with red spots on the ends of its wing cases. It appears to be laying an egg on the tip of a freshly emerged wild orchid this afternoon. All suggestions as to the i/d would be most welcome. I'll post another view to aid i/d.
An iconic species, monarchs need mild weed to lay their eggs, they are an iconic pollinator species famous for their migration.
Most are now unfortunately restricted to suburbs and small pockets of milkweeds, so scenes like these are fairly common now.
Your comments and likes are always appreciated.
