Redshank - Tringa Totanus
The common redshank is a widespread breeding bird across temperate Eurasia. It is a migratory species, wintering on coasts around the Mediterranean, on the Atlantic coast of Europe from Ireland and Great Britain southwards, and in South Asia. They are uncommon vagrants outside these areas.
They are wary and noisy birds which will alert everything else with their loud piping call. Like most waders, they feed on small invertebrates. Redshanks will nest in any wetland, from damp meadows to saltmarsh, often at high densities. They lay 3–5 eggs.
The common redshank is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.
It is widely distributed and quite plentiful in some regions, and thus not considered a threatened species by the IUCN.

Well that's another something off my photographic wish list - I finally made it over to Brownsea Island, Dorset to see red squirrels in the wild.
It's one of the very few places they can still be seen in the UK, and what a delight it was having these energetic bundles of fluff scampering right past my feet laying down stores for winter!
Spider
I spotted this spider waiting in its web for a meal to arrive. While watching, a wasp flew into the nest but was able to escape before the spider could get to it.
A female Katydid laying/cleaning her eggs on my lemon bush. The bright green Katydid is a species of bush cricket found in New Zealand. Adult Katydid mate in autumn then the female lays her eggs. The eggs survive the cold of winter to hatch in the warmer spring months.

As we sit in the clear on the controlled siding in Burlington, a CSX Barr Yard bound freight passes us by. Once the southbound clears, we will get a little mainline time to switch siding 74 (on far left of frame) to retrieve some freight for spotting, before having to clear again for more traffic.

Revisiting RE, Auto Topcor 35mm f2.8 Tokyo Kogaku lens.
Does not flare much and when it does it does it gracefully.
Not attracted by many flowers in its surrounding, this butterfly actively moving from one leaf to another. After a closer look at its belly movement, I just realized it's laying the eggs onto leaves.
Elegant Lynx Spider (Oxyopes elegans)
A sunny morning has brought out the insects so the spiders are out looking for a meal.
At Happisburgh, the top meter of so of sand has been washed away to reveal ancient sediments.
In early February 2014 the news was broken that human footprints had been discovered the previous May in sediments of the ancient River Thames on the foreshore at Happisburgh. These are the oldest known human tracks outside of Africa.

A long planned weekend in the Lakes promised so much in the way of new photo opportunities. The scenic splendour of the Lakes themselves, Pendos etc. (and a Duchess) along northern fells and the potential for a 37 on the Cumbrian Coast. The fact that I didn't really have time for any of it was another matter, having only one full day to fit in the family touristy stuff and any photography, so dry weather and a little spare time was hoped for. Unfortunately, neither materialised......
The one and only opportunity for any photography on the WCML came while on the journey south back home, the first service of the day timed before we dropped on to the M6.
Viewed from a lay-by on the A6, in the middle distance a Virgin Class 390 `Pendolino' sweeps towards Shap with 1M05 0938 Glasgow Central to London Euston.

We have been missing out on the rain, so the ground was hard to dig in. After some time the hole was deep enough, and the eggs were buried. Critters dig them up, so have some wiring over them, hoping they make it. :)
