Lunchtime following Thanksgiving means that I couldn't bear to eat anything else. So I used that time to get some fresh air out at Dun Law wind farm instead. The cold wind gusts were so strong I only stayed for 15 minutes, nearly making my third trip out here another wash.
I love seeing these things in person, as I'd never been so close to them before I moved here. The sound made underneath them is incredible. Each three-bladed turbine has a diameter of 47m (154 feet), mounted on 40m (131 feet) high towers.
Two frames, stitched, each 1/3 second. The unusually warm light (at lunchtime) is due to the very low winter sun at this latitude. Also, it appears Flickr has FUBAR'd the display version here (I will resolve to fix it). Fortunately the Original resolution doesn't have the gradient artifacts.

This is a new project called Manchester's forgotten architecture. There is a disturbing revolution happening in Manchester. It is turning into a Londonesque skyline with Steel and Glass being the order of the day. Older buildings and yes, streets are being demolished to make way for this "progress." One developer actually said, " We are demolishing buildings that perhaps have local history, but not recognised as national importance. It is in Manchester's interest to let go of it's past and embrace it's future.
Here is a picture of Manchester Law Library, still fully stocked with papers dating back to 1820. The majority of the artifacts have now been moved to a new facility. It is worth noting that this building receives no public funding for its upkeep. All privately funded by its members. As for the future of this beautiful building? well, it is a Grade II listed building, but that has never stopped a determined developer.
Another addition to my Force & Nature Science Theories. This print lays out the theory of Universal Gravitation, or Gravity, as discovered by Isaac Newton.

Digging through old slides from my in-laws, I found this nicely captured image of Mid-Continent's tourist operation at North Freedom, WI in 1971. A year before my wife was born, her family was on a vacation and stopped for a ride. I must say, one would think this was a railfan generated shot as the image presents itself as such quite well.
On 30th June 2005, during the period of locomotive-haulage on North Berwick services, EWS Class 90 No. 90026 is seen rounding the curve on the approach to Drem Junction, where the North Berwick branch joins the East Coast Mainline, while heading a North Berwick - Edinburgh Waverley service. Note the distinctive mound in the background, the 'North Berwick Law', which at 613ft towers above the local flat terrain. It is a volcanic plug which survived glaciation during the ice age. Sailfoot Law is basically the lower northern foot of Capel Fell in the Ettrick Hills. These hills seperate the Moffat Dale & Ettrick Valley in the Scottish Borders. A lot of forestry & felling going on in both glens.
Largo Law just north of Upper Largo in Fife.
The 290m high hill is the eroded plug of an old volcano and legend has it that there is gold buried deep in the ground below it. Although it is not very high it is a prominent feature in the fairly flat landscape which surrounds it.
You can walk up it quite quickly but the path up is a bit of a stinker. It runs directly up one of its steepest faces and it is quite loose dirt and earth underfoot. Probably better to do like we did and hack through the tall grass to the side of the path as there is much better grip.
Stuarts of Carluke have operated deckers for many years although they have been reducing numbers of late. Olympian S461ATV is the latest to leave the fleet for the south via a friendly dealer. P258PSX remains for now and arrived from the defunct Irvines of Law
