POAY heads west past the former Lawrence station with the clock tower in the background. MEC 7523 leads MEC 619 west with a good sized train in tow. This power came off of that days WAPO, but fortunately they left their third engine, MEC 7489, leaving a matched set of Pan Am blues for the power.

First day out with a camera since the knee surgery. A challenging day with some bad surprises and some good surprises. The Lawrence's was a happy surprise ending.
In the late 1970’s, the National Railway Utilization Corporation was the parent of the Pickens, the Norwood & St. Lawrence, and possibly other roads that don’t come to mind. The blue boxcars emblazoned with the names of the member roads showed up in virtually every yard in the country. Here St. Lawrence GE 70-tonner 10 works at Norwood, New York.
Hi winds sweep from the west as an Autumn gale makes its way through eastern Ontario. 90% of the leaves are down now.
Almost missed seeing this lovely Lawrence's Goldfinch in Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. There was a group of them, but they hid pretty quickly!

Got this male along with several other males/females on Pine Creek Road in the Laguna Mountains of California. This is in the Cleveland National Forest.

Right now Southern California is the perfect temp and is beautiful thanks to all the rain igniting desert blooms. Many of the hillsides have turned green and are covered in flowers. Each day I see hundreds of pink lady butterflies with a few monarchs and swallowtails. I had a fun time watching some Lawrence's goldfinches, a California specialty, among all the yellow flowers.
On a beautiful Saturday morning, I received a timely heads up that UP's MTPKC would be leaving Topeka with a Spartan Cab EMD on the point, and although I was a few minutes behind it, I knew that I could catch up to it by Lawrence. Here, with a wave from a friendly crew is the result of that quick trip to the east!
