The photo was taken at low tide. This shows off the reflection in the natural pool particularly well. This is a very quiet place on Tenerife's south coast, a bit away from the big tourist highlights.
One of the trolls we came upon during a hike through the lava fields. He should have hidden from the sun to escape being turned into stone!
Genovesa Island, its sandy coral beach with a great viewpoint of the bay, is one of the Galapagos’ jewels. It is also known as the “Bird Island“ offering the opportunity to enjoy the most representative birds of Galapagos as: Puffball–chicks, white both yellow–crowned and lava herons, Red footed boobies contrasting with the Nazca booby and also the Swallow–tailed gulls, the only nocturnal gulls in the world that will be nesting at the cliff’s edge.
Santiago Island has the biggest and longest lava flow, which is located in Sullivan Bay. Geologically speaking, this island is one of the most beautiful and unbelievable formations. The vast basaltic landscape performs smooth and unbroken surfaces with undulations and nods formed by the fluid lava that created the sculpture. It is located on the central west of the archipelago and is formed by two overlapping volcanoes. It is the 4th biggest of the Galapagos archipelago.

"Lava Butte is a cinder cone in central Oregon, United States, just west of U.S. Route 97 between the towns of Bend, and Sunriver in Deschutes County. It is part of a system of small cinder cones on the northwest flank of Newberry Volcano, a massive shield volcano which rises to the southeast. The cinder cone is capped by a crater which extends about 60 feet (20 m) deep beneath its south rim, and 160 feet (50 m) deep from the 5,020-foot (1,530 m) summit on its north side. Lava Butte is part of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument.

The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is a picturesque region in western Iceland, offering a varied landscape of glaciers, mountains, lava fields and coastline. It is home to the Snaefellsjokull National Park, at the centre of which is the subglacial volcano Sneafellsjokull, which dominates the landscape.
A lava lamp is a decorative lamp, invented in 1963 by British entrepreneur Edward Craven Walker, the founder of the lighting company Mathmos.
It consists of a bolus of a special coloured wax mixture inside a glass vessel, the remainder of which contains clear or translucent liquid. The vessel is placed on a base containing an incandescent light bulb whose heat causes temporary reductions in the wax's density and the liquid's surface tension.
As the warmed wax rises through the liquid, it cools, loses its buoyancy, and falls back to the bottom of the vessel in a cycle that is visually suggestive of pāhoehoe lava, hence the name. The lamps are designed in a variety of styles and colours.
Lava lamps are often associated with hippie culture and cannabis culture.
I was visiting the Big Island of Hawaii with some friends and family, and my brother convinced the group to take a lava tour by boat. I always kind of balk a little bit at overtly touristy stuff like that, but I think everyone was a pretty shocked when we got our first look at the Kalapana Lava Flow after about a half hour boat trip down the coast. It’s such an awesome, phantasmagorical sight and, since they actually get surprisingly close to the spots where the rivers of lava meet the ocean and throw up sulfurous steam clouds, also a pretty visceral sensory experience.

"The Monument and Preserve encompass three major lava fields and about 400 square miles (1,000 km2) of sagebrush steppe grasslands to cover a total area of 1,117 square miles (2,893 km2). The Monument alone covers 53,571 acres (21,679 ha). All three lava fields lie along the Great Rift of Idaho, with some of the best examples of open rift cracks in the world, including the deepest known on Earth at 800 feet (240 m). There are excellent examples of almost every variety of basaltic lava, as well as tree molds (cavities left by lava-incinerated trees), lava tubes (a type of cave), and many other volcanic features."

I was passing thru on this day but hope to return to explore much further. I was enthralled with the textures, uniqueness and variety over such a large area. A crazy cool place. But perhaps not in the middle of summer.

Floreana, Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos subspecies of the Striated Heron is commonly called the Lava Heron due to its dark plumage that camouflages it against the sharp lava rocks that coat the shoreline of the islands. This individual had no fear of humans whatsoever.

Pāhoehoe (on the left) is basaltic lava that has a smooth, billowy, undulating, or ropy surface. These surface features are due to the movement of very fluid lava under a congealing surface crust.
ʻAʻā (on the right) is basaltic lava characterized by a rough or rubbly surface composed of broken lava blocks called clinker. The clinkery surface actually covers a massive dense core, which is the most active part of the flow. As pasty lava in the core travels downslope, the clinkers are carried along at the surface.
The Hawaiian words were introduced as technical terms in geology by Clarence Dutton, who was head of the division of volcanic geology at the United States Geological Survey in the 1880's.
I can confirm from personal experience that it is quite easy to walk on pāhoehoe, but the loose, broken, and sharp, spiny surface of an ʻaʻā flow makes hiking difficult, slow and very hard on both feet and shoes.

Lava flows are commonly classified into two types according to their characteristics. Aa lavas have a rough surface, whereas pahoehoe lavas are "characterized by smooth, gently undulating, or broadly hummocky surfaces" (Britannica). Here is a rare view of pahoehoe lava forming. At the top is a thin solidified "skin" of smooth lava above a cooling lava pond. The pond has a grey leathery surface, but underneath the insulating roof it is still a red-hot liquid. The names aa and pahoehoe are Hawaiian and used as geological terms; the corresponding names in Icelandic are "apalhraun" and "helluhraun". Hawaiian names are wovel-rich and nice-sounding, so they have found favour in the scientific canon.

Lava Lake lies in the Cascade Range about 25 miles (40 km) west-southwest of Bend in Oregon. It is a close neighbor of Little Lava Lake, from which it is separated by solidified lava. Lava Lake is at an elevation of 4,740 feet (1,440 m) in the Deschutes National Forest. The lake covers 368 acres (149 ha) to an average depth of 20 feet (6.1 m).
Lava Lake, Little Lava Lake, and other nearby lakes were formed after lava flows from Mount Bachelor altered drainage patterns in the area. Solidified lava flows are visible along the shorelines of both lakes, and the volcanic peaks Broken Top and South Sister can be seen to the north.
