Crescent Cleaners. N. Main between Cavalcade/20th St. and 610 N. This old timer dates back to at least the 1950s and was bright red originally. The bottom portion of the sign has recently fallen off. Gotta thank my buddy Pat, who grew up a few blocks from the sign, for identifying it for me. This sign is down the street from my previous photo of Miller's Garage.

(2017)(digital) Mural, of a kacang puteh (literally translated as white nuts) man selling assorted nuts. The wider mural depicts the traditional trades of Little India. The area, Little India, once, had dobis or laundry cleaning services. 1034_170114_800PS6
Entitled, Traditional Trades of Little India by Psyfool. Traditional Trades of Little India is a mural woven together by local artist Psyfool. It tells a tale of the parrot astrologers, dhobi (washerman), and the many traders and merchants who settled in the area years ago.
In the past, this was a common sight, too, at Dhoby Ghaut, as the name suggests. It was a place where Indian washermen at the Stamford Canal area converged and congregated.
Dhoby means “washerman” in Hindi, while Ghaut or ghat in Hindi refers to the area along a riverbank used for bathing or washing. In Tamil, Dhoby Ghaut was called Vannan Theruvu or “Street of the Dhobies”.
