I was able to anticipate the launch of this Purple Gallinule because I was taking pictures of him when he decided to go another Fireflag clump where he can feed on its flowers.

Right after I got this shot, this Red-lined Leafhopper launched himself into space--- (the space between the branches.... :)

Captured in: Callicoon, NY.
Pictured here is the launch and subsequent explosion of a fireworks rocket & shell during a fireworks show. The image was captured during an annual July 4th event held in upstate NY.
My brother-in-law was part of the pyrotechnics team that was running the show, so we were fortunate to get an up-close and personal view of the launch area.
I found this one while recently looking back through the archives. ;) Not sure why I never got around to posting it, especially as I happened to really like the shot.

"Night Launch" is a non-HDR image that was processed in ACR and Photoshop. Processing also includes the use of Topaz Labs plugins: Adjust, Clarity, Clean, Denoise, Glow and Detail.
The launching flurry of an Australian Pied Currawong (Strepera graculina) does little to distract attention from the intense golden yellow eye. Image captured in the Bunya Mountains Queensland.
A group of sandhill cranes free themselves from the bonds of gravity in the early morning light at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. The lumps in the foreground are pintail and Northern shoveler ducks dining on marsh delicacies.
Australian Hobby ( Falco longipennis)
This Hobby is usually seen around the Suzanne Cory High School. It was ready to take off as I took this shot.
This board rider looked as though he was launching on to rocks but he had seen a wave coming that I couldn't see.
With the FFF+ at Torquay Surf Beach.
I usually try to avoid centering the subject of a photo, but I think it works on this one of Ripley taken at lunch today. : ) No way to avoid her at this speed, but I got lots of snowy, happy kisses once I was lying in the snow.
A great grey owl steps off a birch snag to check out some vole activity nearby. I always underestimate how long their wings are, I left room above the owl when framing in the camera, but as you can see, my mental calculation was off.
I really like the large number of large snowflakes coming down. And the bits of snow falling off its head as it launched.
