Customer Allan Dunlop looks on as Andre Simon tests the launch control in the “DECPTN” Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 2.
Launch control is essential to produce sufficient boost to allow the car to launch effectively when fitted with large ‘drag-specific’ turbochargers. At STM, we utilise the ECU’s ‘two-step’ function to retard ignition timing and produce boost while staging. Setting up this feature takes time and needs constant adjustment to match the car’s power delivery to the track conditions.
Most aftermarket computers have this feature and STM can install the necessary hardware and setup the ECU to suit.

Barbeque anyone?
STM’s tuner Andre configures the launch control and traction control on Tony Oliver’s SS2000 circuit car.
The launch control works in conjunction with the Motec M800 ECU and is adjustable via a 9 position dash switch by the driver to suit the track conditions. This is the same technology used by V8 Supercars and Formula 1 to ensure clean launches without bogging or excessive wheel spin.
