マサカ ニガオエ ジャナイヨネ... ツノアルシ...

Latte (so named because even as a wee chick her coloring reminded us of a latte) is the most personable hen in the flock, and the most pet-like of all. Indeed, we often joke that she does not fully realize she is, in fact, a chicken. When I do leave the run, no matter what kind of goody I've brought the girls or how much new litter I've brought in for them to dig through, she follows me to the gate to say goodbye. She also seems to have learned to imitate, in her own chicken-y way, my call for the flock.

Latte also has an impressive vertical jump when the nightly wintertime scratch is being doled out. I think she can get a little more than a foot into the air, straight up, without using her wings! But when sunflower seeds and cracked corn are at stake...

Latte's eggs are blue-green with a distinct greyish cast, like storm clouds over the sea. But the *inside* of her eggs is a perfect sunny-day sky blue.

Another shot for the coffee mosaic!

A well known supermarket offers it's customers a daily free

tea or coffee if they have a loyalty card. So when I've done

a bit of shopping, I have a latte or a cappuccino before braving

the cold and rain to get home.
