He fought quietly, and we fought with him.
His body was smaller and more fragile than it should have been, his past and true age unknown.
Hidden illness, surgery, and complications followed—things no one could see at first.
We did everything we could, but his little body couldn’t go on.
He passed away peacefully, loved and held.
He came fragile, with battles already inside him.
From the first day on, his life was care, patience, and hope.
What he asked for was simple—to be loved, and not be alone.
I gave him everything I had.
And I felt his gratitude in every quiet moment.

This composition had been in my head weeks before the graduation day. Events with crowds, especially with kids, is not predictable. I had set my thoughts on a shoot such as this, but I also had given it an 80% chance. I didn't want to disappoint myself if it didn't come true.
----
The day came and it was as chaotic as expected. It was exciting, emotional and I also had a mission to accomplish. This shot is originally blurry and had her back as she was saying her last goodbyes. I didn't even know if I had a decent shot, but I had all the opportunities to have a good one.
The moment of truth came the next day as I looked at all the images taken. I was relived to see this one, especially already with blurred faces. I was 1 happy camper to say the least.
Graduation means a lot to me and my family. School is very tedious hard work, day in and day out. Graduating from any school is an accomplishment and should be treated with the outmost respect and importance. Keep it exciting and interesting so the fun for learning keeps going and going 😄

The passengers boarded with excitement, exchanging warm smiles and easy laughter, unaware that they were stepping into their final journey. It was just a short sightseeing tour—an afternoon escape, a chance to marvel at the world from above before returning to the lives waiting for them below. Loved ones had waved them off without a second thought, promising to hear all about the adventure when they returned. None of them knew that this was their last goodbye. As the plane lifted, the sky opened wide before them, and for a brief, breathtaking hour, they lived fully—wrapped in wonder, carried by awe, believing in the certainty of tomorrow.
But life doesn’t offer certainty. It doesn’t whisper warnings or give us the chance to hold on just a little longer. It simply gives us now, asking only that we embrace it before it fades. And in that final flight, they did. They soaked in every sight, every laugh, every quiet moment suspended in the air. They lived in the beauty of now, unaware that it was all they had, unaware that the people they left behind would never get to hear their stories, never get to say one last, lingering farewell. Because in the end, life is not about what comes next—it’s about cherishing what is here, while it’s still ours to hold.
"I'm no prophet
Lord, I don't know nature's way
So I'll try to see into your eyes right now
And stay right here
'Cause these are the good old days - Carly Simon

I am deeply heartbroken.
We had so much hope.
After losing my mother just two months ago, this came during an already difficult time.
I’ve always shared openly—this is simply part of that.
In time, I will share a few more images of Mochi.
There aren’t many—everything happened so suddenly.

My photograph 'Goodbye my lover' was used as album art for a song cover of Jeff Buckley's 'Last Goodbye' by musician Patrick Thomas!
Patrick is an extraordinarily talented musician & I'm beyond honored that he asked me to contribute art. I had never heard 'Last Goodbye' before & was completely astonished with how it perfectly represented the emotions I felt when I took that photograph.
To listen to Patrick's cover of 'Last Goodbye',click here.
I truly feel that forms of art can play off of each other to create an unbelievably powerful emotional experience.
This is one of them.
I send a warm thank you to Patrick Thomas for his compassion & gratitude!

Can anybody tell me why we're lying here on the floor
And neither of us can barely breathe at all
The doctors saying hold on tight as we say our last goodbyes
And this is a moment that changes our whole lives
And I still believe in the good, and I still believe in the light
And I wanna feel the sun , I wanna free you tonight
And I still believe in the good, and I still believe in the light
And I wanna feel the sun, I wanna free you
And I'm falling, watching as you're hurting
I'm down here I'm on my knees, how can I survive?
And you turn to me and promise me you're ready
And tell me you'll be waiting on the other side
-from Into the Light performed by Maria Brink of In The Moment
I stumbled upon this song by accident. I found it quite profound and haunting. And I thought about how so many of us have had to deal with “last goodbyes”. I also thought about the recent tragedy in central Italy. And all the daily tragedies we read and hear about. I was in tears even before the song was over. Here’s the ENTIRE SONG if you wish to listen to it (video will open in a new window).
276 days to go before my next trip to the Philippines.

This one goes to my father. View from the rock 'Hrubá skala' above the village Lietavská Svinná (Slovakia) - it was a special place for my father and it remains so for us because we gave our last goodbye to him there.

I heard the song Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley today and as I like it so much I decided to theme tonight's shot on it.
I was looking to capture the essence of the final touch of a last goodbye.
This was lit from above by a Yongnuo 560iv, gelled blue shot through my socked beauty dish. 1/8th power @24mm. Whilst from directly below a heavily snooted Yongnuo 560iv 1/64power @105mm.
Into LR for a 16/9 crop then faffed about with the B&W tone enhancer in Colour efex pro until happy.
If you haven't heard the work of Jeff Buckley I suggest you familiarise yourself with him immediately.
This is number 223 of my 366.

Ziva died today, thursday, after a rapidly progressing gastric dilatation - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastric_dilatation_volvulus
This photo was shot thuesday afternoon, when she was 100% allright. Wednesday morning she was a bit 'tired' and at night she was reluctant to go for her walk. Thursday she came to me a couple of times, but retired, 'went to bed' again in another room where she died in her sleep. The loss of her will really get to me in a couple of days . .
Sad to hear today (January 11, 2021) that Michael Fonfara died at age 74.
Flashback to Michael Fonfara with Rhinoceros "Apricot Brandy"
Today is the first anniversary of my fathers death. I never thought that I would lose one of my parents so early and in such a horrible way. This experience shaped me and changed my life forever. Nothing will ever be the same again.
Last year no day went by that I was not thinking and remembering my father, his strength, his kindness and his good heart. He will always be loved and missed.
I believe that he sees us from above and hope that he is proud of us.
I love and miss you so much...
Until we see us again...

Oh Jeff Buckley. I wish you had been a stronger swimmer. You made incredible music.
I had fun making the goodbye love letter last night! You guys probably already know this, but you can use instant coffee or a tea bag and just smear it over the page, tear it where you want, and then bake it at 230 until it's dry. I decided to give it an extra touch and burned some of the edges, but it gave the paper awesome texture!
We said goodbye to our dear Wyatt today. He will always be a part of our hearts. I am so glad my oldest son got to be friends with such an awesome dog. You are loved, dear Wyatt. See you soon.

this is our last goodbye
i hate to feel the love between us die
but it's over
just hear this and then i'll go
you gave me more to live for
more than you'll ever know
this is our last embrace
must i dream and always see your face
why can't we overcome this wall
well, maybe it's just because i didn't know you at all
kiss me, please kiss me
but kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
you know it makes me so angry 'cause i know that in time
i'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye
did you say "no, this can't happen to me,"
and did you rush to the phone to call
was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind
saying maybe you didn't know him at all
you didn't know him at all, oh, you didn't know
well, the bells out in the church tower chime
burning clues into this heart of mine
thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memories
offer signs that it's over... it's over
