At Westhay Moor NNR. I managed to squeeze in a short session this morning before having to go to work :-( and it's fair to say it was 'mission accomplished'. So the season has begun!

These are fairly common but my favourite of the small damselflies that I see often.

Another sighting on my wander around the reserve.

Looking around the ponds of Harlow Carr for damselflies, when i should have been looking on the very bright orange wall. Where a large red damselfly was resting up.

Odonata! My first of the year, although I know others did see them a few days earlier.

Though fairly widespread I don't see that many of these.

Another of the many damselfly species seen at this spot beside the River Welland near Stamford.

Large red damselfly. Natural light

Large red damselfly closeup. Focus stacked using zerene

This Large Red took us by surprise when it emerged today. It's from one of the tanks we've been keeping in our conservatory for filming dragonfly's and damselfly's since last year, so that may explain it being a little bit early. Hopefully it'll be OK and won't be caught out by a late cold snap.

This is my first proper go at using the MPE-65 that I bought last year. I decided to use natural light and a 10 second timer to keep the camera still as the flash shots I took were a bit too harsh. Still, it's not a bad start if I say so myself.
