We took the boat across the Rappahannock River from the Northern Neck of Virginia to the Middle Peninsula.

This is Robinson’s Creek in Middlesex County about 1.4 miles from the town of Urbana.

You can’t build boathouses on the rivers and creeks here anymore because they obstruct the views. If you already have one then it is grandfathered in and you can keep it, if it is kept in good repair.

This is one of the larger and nicer boathouses I have seen. I thought it made a pretty picture with the autumn foliage behind it.

The great red damselfly is often the first damselfly to emerge, usually in April or May (Wikipedia).

The large red damselfly is large and red as its name suggests, or at least the male of the species is; the female is almost completely black. The larvae develop in still water and feed on tiny crustaceans and other insect larvae, helping to keep population numbers balanced. This species is one of the first damselflies to emerge in spring

This species occurs in Southeast Asia from Thailand to Kalimantan. It hunts by night, on the ground and in the canopy, feeding on insects such as grasshoppers and cicadas. It roosts by day, perching on a branch or hidden in a hole, singly or possibly in pairs. A near threatened and totally protected species in Peninsular Malaysia.

This piece began with an original digital painting in Procreate. I passed that to the MidJourney AI and let it do variations with a few different prompts. When a variation caught my eye I retouched it with TouchRetouch, scaled it with topaz photo AI, did a little post processing in Photoshop, and a lot of retouching in Procreate

This gorgeous large spider--- Argiope Aurantia---is known by the common names of "Black and Yellow Garden Spider;" "Corn Spider;" and my personal favorite, "Writing Spider," because the central portion of the web (the stabilimenta) bears a resemblance to writing.
