35J rattles across the South Shore diamonds in LaPorte behind a single C40-9W. The old Conrail tri-lights still protected this crossing then, but not for too much longer.

nrhp # 93000464- The Marion Ridgeway Polygonal Barn located in LaPorte County on the southern edge of LaPorte, Indiana, is a multi-sided barn. Built in 1878 by Marion Ridgeway and called the Door Prairie Barn. The barn sits east of highway 35 surrounded by woods and cultivated fields. The nine-sided barn is south of a rectangular barn. The barn has nine sides and is two stories tall. The roof is capped with a sectional cone roof with a nine-sided cupola in the Gothic Revival/Italianate style.[2] Within the louvered panels trim pieces resemble a lancet arch. The post and beam frame sits on wooden sill propped on stone.

I REALLY wanted the pond shot south of LaPorte and after a cloudless dawn was rudely interrupted by low level condensation clouds pushing off of Lake Michigan I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get it.
With help from Mike I knew they had work to do at LaPorte so I set up for a smoker of them going over the diamond with the NYC and hot annihilated by a last second cloud. Once I was south of the Central I started running hot and got this and a couple others.

All dressed up like a CSX freight, NS 36J rolls under the classic New York Central signal bridge that marks the eastern end of the 3rd Main that runs to Pinola, IN. Led by CSX SD70MAC 4740, the eastbound is approaching LaPorte, IN on NS's Chicago Line. The action here took place on a hot July day in 2013. I was still getting used to my new digital camera and had my old film Sigma 70-300mm zoom on it, to see what the results would be. I was not too pleased, but I should have known that any flaws an outdated lens would have would certainly show up in a digital world. The lens wasn't very sharp and it didn't handle harsh lighting conditions too well, either. Needless to say, this lens stayed in the bag until it was replaced by a Nikon version, which I absolutely love.
Daddy downy teaches his little one how to eat suet. It took the young downy a while to figure it out, but he eventually got the hang of it and was rewarded with a bellyful of suet!!
