HOCHOFEN 5
In Öfen wie dem Hochofen 5 wurden zusammen mit vielen anderen Zuschlagstoffen Erze bei rund 2000 Grad Hitze zu Roheisen geschmolzen. Zehn Jahre lief ein Hochofen im Dauerbetrieb bevor er innen neu ausgemauert werden musste.
Von den ehemals fünf Hochöfen des Meidericher Hüttenwerks sind heute noch drei erhalten. Hochofen 5 ist der einzige dieser drei, der für jedermann frei begehbar ist. Er wurde erst kurz vor Schließung des Werks noch einmal komplett saniert und ist daher gut erhalten.
Heute führt eine eiserne Treppe am Hochofen 5 hoch hinauf auf eine Besucherplattform. Hier genießt man einen großartigen Ausblick über die Stadt Duisburg, das Ruhrgebiet und den Niederrhein.
FURNACE 5
In furnaces like blast furnace 5, ores were melted into pig iron together with many other additives at a heat of around 2000 degrees. A blast furnace ran continuously for ten years before it had to be re-bricked inside.
Three of the former five blast furnaces of the Meiderich ironworks are still preserved today. Blast furnace 5 is the only one of these three that is freely accessible to everyone. It was completely refurbished again shortly before the plant closed and is therefore well preserved.
Today an iron staircase at blast furnace 5 leads up to a visitor platform. Here you can enjoy a great view over the city of Duisburg, the Ruhr area and the Lower Rhine.
Die Kröte ist Teil einer Bilderausstellung im Bunkersteg des LaPaDu, die im spärlichen Licht des späten Abends gerade noch so zu erkennen war.
The toad is part of a picture exhibition in the bunker jetty of the LaPaDu, which was barely recognizable in the poor light of the late evening.

Mit durchschnittlich einer Million Besuchern pro Jahr gehört der Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord zu den beliebtesten Natur- und Kulturlandschaften in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Seit 1994 ist die rund 180 Hektar große Industriebrache als Multifunktionspark neuen Stils rund um die Uhr und bei freiem Eintritt geöffnet. Im Zentrum steht ein stillgelegtes Hüttenwerk, in dessen Anlagen Industriegeschichte, Freizeitgestaltung, Kultur- und Firmenveranstaltungen, Lichtkunst und Naturerleben zu einem Gesamtkonzept zusammenfinden.
Landscape Park Duisburg-Nord
With an average of one million visitors a year, the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park is one of the most popular natural and cultural landscapes in North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 1994, the approximately 180 hectare industrial wasteland has been open as a new-style multifunctional park around the clock and with free entry. At the center is a decommissioned ironworks, in whose facilities industrial history, leisure activities, cultural and corporate events, light art and the experience of nature come together to form an overall concept.
Ausblick führt, nach 252 Stufen, von der Aussichtsplattform des Hochofen 5 über die Stadt Duisburg, das Ruhrgebiet und den Niederrhein.
Im unteren Bereich sieht man, von links nach rechts,
das Kühlwerk, die Rundklärbecken und den Verladekran, genannt, das "Krokodil".
