Candles are lit in the paper lanterns that color the night view of the Port of Tokyo as their light interweaves in a picturesque design.

Around 1,600 to 2,000 feet (approximately 480-600 meters) above sea level,
There is something ultimately humbling and awe-inspiring in seeing such staggering forms of beauty and power. The dance between the real and unreal appears to be so palpable, one does easily forget their own closed in reality, and becomes liberated from it by experiencing the taking part of something much larger than one's own existence.
An initiation, the evocation of an inner smile, a warm light inside, something to hold onto, something to cherish and to carry within.
Scotland gave me that warm smile years ago, and she keeps smiling at me... I carry these smiles and lights in my lantern into the hours, when I look out, and all I can see is shadows in the darkness.

CrazyTuesday#Lanterns
At the beginning of the blue hour, my lanterns in the garden are automatically lit.
Now I saw in the photo that the lamps are dirty with a lot of cobwebs, so tomorrow my husband will have a lot of work.
HCT!
An entire street covered with red Chinese festive lanterns in my hometown of Georgetown, Penang.
PENANG CHINESE
Penang has the highest population of Chinese (46%) of the states. The Chinese are the second largest ethnic group (20%) in the country after the Malay (62%). In general, Chinese communitites tended towards trade while the Malay were traditionally farmders.
MIGRATION HISTORY
Many Chinese came from as far back as 1500s - my own grandparents came in the early 1900s during the tin rush after the British settlement.
NONYA CULTURE
From these Chinese descendents sprung the Nonya culture which retains most of their ethnic and religious origins (such as ancestor worship), but with many assimilations from the Malays such as language, food, clothing, and customs.
Lanterns festoon the streets of Chinatown, in London, during Chinese New Year.
Taken with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor AFS DX 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6G lens, and processed in GIMP and Photoscape.
Lantern festival is a time for family and friends to enjoy eating mooncakes, pomelos and watching the kids playing with lanterns
THE LITTLE LANTERNS... PHYSALIS

PHYSALIS alkekengi or Chinese Lantern Plant, they are native from southern Europe east across southern Asia to Japan.
Popular for the papery bright-orange lantern pods that develop around the ripening fruit, these are often cut and used for Thanksgiving and Halloween arrangements.
Plants are aggressive spreaders, and best kept out of the perennial border so they don't take over.
Also can be grown in tubs.
Small white flowers appear in midsummer, over a bushy mound of coarse green leaves.
Pods are green at first, but should be harvested as soon as the orange colour develops, the leaves stripped then stems hung upside down to dry in a warm dark room.
Thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *)
