El lago obtuvo su nombre de sus antiguos propietarios, la familia Bader de Grainau.
El lago tiene 12.810 metros cuadrados, 177 metros de largo, 131 metros de ancho y tiene una circunferencia de 580 metros. La profundidad media del agua es de 2 a 3 metros en la parte occidental del lago y de 5 a 6 metros en la parte oriental. La profundidad máxima es de 18 metros, esto es en la depresión entre la isla y la costa sur. El lago transparente de color verde esmeralda está constantemente libre de hielo, ya que se alimenta bajo tierra por manantiales de agua subterránea. No tiene entrada ni salida por encima del suelo.
En el lago, al oeste de la isla, hay una escultura de tamaño natural de una sirena sobre una roca a unos 5 metros de profundidad. El objeto de arte se colocó allí a mediados del siglo XIX y se puede ver bien desde el barco. La escultura contribuyó significativamente a la fama del lago. Se dice que tiene los rasgos de Lola Montez, la legendaria bailarina y amante del rey Luis I de Baviera.

Old, unique, and full of personality… The Tufa is otherworldly, but you need to search to find the best views. When we finally arrived at the South Tufa in the afternoon, we were thrilled and surprised by the number and beauty of these incredible God made structures on the lake... There is an easy boardwalk trail down to the Lake. The views are magnificent and beautiful. This lake is often used as the face of 'wish you were here' postcards, and deservedly so.

Phare de La Martre
La Martre (Haute-Gaspésie), Québec
Le phare de La Martrel, avec sa structure octogonale en bois aux côtés inclinés, a été construit en 1906. Il a conservé son système d’horlogerie d’origine (câble et poids) qui permet la rotation du module d’éclairage.
