You have probably seen this picture, at least the left part of it, before. If not, I invite you to go back a few days in my gallery.
Here's just the whole grandiose winter scene I faced that morning.
Almost two weeks later I am still overwhelmed by the impressions. And that despite the fact that I've been to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains quite often and am therefore used to quite a bit.

Hier seht ihr nur die ganze grandiose Winterszene, der ich an diesem Morgen gegenüber stand.
Auch fast zwei Wochen später bin ich noch immer von den Eindrücken überwältigt. Und das, obwohl ich schon recht häufig im Elbsandsteingebirge unterwegs bin und deshalb einiges gewohnt bin.

Welcome to Poppyday.
Most people, at least most of those I know, strive for a high degree of order, structure and predictability in their lives. But maintaining this state required an incredible amount of energy. Because basically we are constantly fighting against a law of nature, which always strives in the direction of the greatest possible disorder (entropy). This force has basically created (or at least made possible) everything that exists in the universe over millions of years.
This disorder, which we also like to call chaos, causes so many random events and combinations that a constant development process can unfold. Any creative process requires a minimum of this chaos.
This is not to say, of course, that the order is fundamentally opposed. As with almost everything, it's all about finding the right balance.
This photo here, of a bird vetch (at least I think it is one) huddled in a beautifully textured field of barley and poppies, is meant to symbolize that. The order is gone. But do I still see the picture as interesting without those purple flowers?
With that in mind, I invite you to allow a healthy dose of chaos into your life this week. Everyone decides for themselves what level is healthy. But I can assure you that you will notice this quite quickly once this point has been passed.

Willkommen am Mo(h)ntag.
Die meisten Menschen, zumindest, die meisten die ich kenne, streben in Ihrem Leben nach einem hohen Mass an Ordnung, Struktur und Planbarkeit. Doch diesen Zustand aufrecht zu erhalten erfordert unfassbar viel Energie. Denn im Grunde kämpfen wir dabei ununterbrochen gegen ein Gesetz der Natur, welche stets in Richtung der größt möglichen Unordnung (Entropie) strebt. Diese Kraft hat über millionen von Jahren im Grund alles erschaffen (oder dies zumindest ermöglicht) was im Universum existiert.
Diese Unordnung, die wir auch gern als Chaos bezeichnen, verursacht so unfassbar viele zufällige Ereignisse und Kombinationen, dass sich daraus ein steter Entwicklungsprozess entfalten kann. Jeder kreative Prozeß bedarf eines Mindestmasses an diesem Chaos.
Das soll natürlich nicht heißen, dass Ordnung grundlegend abzulehnen ist. Auch hier kommt es, wie bei fast allem, auf die richtige Balance an.
Dieses Foto hier, in dem sich eine Vogel-Wicke (glaub ich zumindest) in ein wundervoll strukturiertes Gersten- und Mohnfeld gedrängt hat, soll dies symbolisieren. Schon ist die Ordnung dahin. Doch sehe das Bild ohne diese lila Blüten noch genau so interessant aus ?
In diesem Sinne lade ich Euch ein, in dieser Woche ein gesundes Mass an Chaos in Eurem Leben zuzulassen. Welches Mass das Gesunde ist entscheidet dabei jeder für sich. Doch ich kann Euch versichern, Ihr werdet das recht schnell merken, wenn dieser Punkt überschritten ist.

It was founded on the Ionian coast by the inhabitants of an abandoned Ionian city of the same name in c.350 BC. It participated in the Battle of Lade with 12 ships in 494 BC. Alexander the Great assigned the city to watch the unreliable city of Miletus. He also lived in the city and paid for the construction of the Athena Temple. After flourishing during the Hellenistic and passing through the Pergamene Kingdom periods the city declined under Roman rule and was later abandoned. Excavation began at the site in the early years of the 20C and the city has been partially restored.
Priene lies to the south west of the area of Soke town in Turkey..
Priene was discovered by the inhabitants on the Ionian coast. The Ionians first arrived and settled here in the 11th century B.C.
Priene was captured and came under the Lydian rules at the end of the 7th century BC. Bias, one of the “seven sages” was born in Priene and he put into order the law of his city. So Priene had the most prosperous era in the 6th century.
The brilliant era ended when Persian King Cyrus attacked the city in 545 BC. The city was burnt down completely and people were enslaved.
A difficult period stated for Priene and in 494 BC Priene participated in the Ionian revolt by joining the Battle of Lade with 12 ships against the Persians. However the city is sacked again as a result of the Persians completely destroyed the Ionaian fleet. But it didn’t take too long; Athens and Spartans attacked and burnt the whole Persian fleet in 479 BC. Following upon this battle and victory the “Attic - Delian Sea League” was established immediately.

Well, not exactly, but I'd indeed hoped that I could get them into the frame - and I did ;-) If you zoom in on the roof of the lower building you can see that there was a bird gathering (doves, I think) with quite a lot coming and leaving going on, and the three on the left (which are common swifts, as I know now, thank you BrigitteE1!) apparently were the late arrivals, or maybe they were on their way to their very own common swift party :-).
View of the German Cathedral (Deutscher Dom) on Gendarmenmarkt which is regarded as Berlin's most beautiful square. The German Cathedral belongs to a buiding ensemble that also consists of the Konzerthaus (Berlin Concert Hall) at the center of the square and the German Cathedral's "twin", the French Cathedral. The twin buildings flank the Konzerthaus, and neither the German nor the French Cathedral are church buildings in the proper sense - actually they are mere towers, and the name "Dom" (which also stands for cathedral) is actually derived from the French term dôme for cupola. The two towers once were complementary buildings to the adjacent New Church (German Cathedral) which was a Calvinist and Lutheran Simultaneum, and the French Church of Friedrichstadt (French Cathedral) which served as a church for the Hugenots that had found a new home in what then was Prussia under the reign of Frederick the Great.
This is the first image of a mini series that I will post this week. Next will be a capture taken inside of the tower, also photographed with my LX100, and I think on Sliders Sunday you will see a slightly more adventurously processed image also taken inside the German Cathedral (and shot with my Olympus). Actually this one was meant to be for Sliders Sunday, too, I have a version of this image replete with textures and other slightly more extreme slider work, but I didn't get around to post it last Sunday, so, since it's Tuesday,
I'll show you this newly and more conventionally edited version first. At first I thought about removing the treetop in the lower left corner with the clone stamp, but then decided against it, because I think it helps to "ground" this capture which otherwise has the strange effect as if that building was hovering up in the sky - just my impression, probably, but I decided to mention it in case you wondered about that bit of treetop in the left corner. Maybe I'll also post the other version later this year just for fun - and on a Sunday, of course :-)
Blick auf den Deutschen Dom am Gendarmenmarkt, der wegen seines besonderen Gebäudeensembles mit dem Konzerthaus in der Mitte, zu beiden Seiten flankiert von den architektonischen Zwillingen Deutscher und Französischer Dom, auch als Berlins schönster Platz bezeichnet wird. Die Aufnahme habe ich von der Außenseite des Platzes (an der Charlottenstraße) gemacht. Ich wollte auch unbedingt die drei Vögel (Mausersegler - Danke, BrigitteE1!) links mit im Bild haben, die offenbar die Spätankömmlinge der kleinen Vogelversammlung (Tauben, denke ich) auf dem Dach des Rundbaus vor dem Turm waren (oder vermutlich auf dem Weg zu ihrer eigenen Mauersegler-Party) - wenn Ihr ins Bild hineinzoomt, könnt Ihr dort die kleine Vogel-Party sehen.
Dies ist das erste Foto einer Miniserie, die ich diese Woche zeigen werde; als Nächstes folgt eine Innenansicht des Turms, auch mit meiner Lumix LX100 fotografiert, und dann, als (vorläufiger) Abschluss eine weitere Innenansicht - fotografiert mit meiner Olympus EM5II und aufbereitet für den Sliders Sunday. Eigentlich war schon dieses Foto für den Sliders Sunday gedacht, allerdings in einer anderen Version mit Texturen und viel stärkerer Bearbeitung; da ich es letzten Sonntag aber zeitlich nicht geschafft habe, seht Ihr nun zuerst diese konventioneller bearbeitete Version. Die Sliders-Sunday-Version lade ich vielleicht später mal hoch; ich habe ja auch noch andere Fotos von diesem Spontanbesuch des Deutschen Doms.
It's supposed to be really warm here today, so I spontaneously had the idea of a visual cool-down.
So today I would like to take you back to Vilsalpsee in the wintry, snowy Tannheim valley in Austria. If anyone is looking for the said lake, it is under the snow cover.
I invite you to stop here for a quick refreshment. It was minus 10 degrees and a constant icy wind blew in my face across the open space.
Maybe that will help one or the other get through the day better. If not, I'd be happy to hear about your alternatives.
Heute soll es hier ja mächtig warm werden, da kam mir spontan die Idee einer visuellen Abkühlung.
Also möchte ich Euch heute nochmal an den Vilsalpsee im winterlich verschneiten Tannheimer Tal in Österreich mitnehmen. Falls jemand den besagten See sucht, der befindet sich unter der Schneedecke.
Ich lade Euch ein, Euch hier eine kurze Erfrischung zu holen. Es waren minus 10 Grad und über die freie Fläche wehte mir ein steter eisiger Wind ins Gesicht.
Vielleicht hilft das dem ein oder anderen besser durch den Tag zu kommen. Falls nicht, würde ich mich freuen, Eure Alternativen zu erfahren.

Most of our life takes place on wide, paved roads, often on real highways. Traveling these ways is fast, efficient and feels safer. But you're missing out on so much. You rush from appointment to appointment, from event to event or from vacation to vacation at top speed. And before you know it, there's hardly anything left of the trip.
I invite you to look for ways away from the main routes. Following the inconspicuous and hidden paths that are too easy to overlook, to live and experience more slowly and intensely.
You have to take care for yourself much more there, that's right. But awareness and mindfulness never were a mistake.
Life is full of wonders, surprises and amazing experiences. They are waiting for you to find them.
Unsere Leben verläuft meist auf breiten, asphaltierten Strassen, oft auf richtigen Autobahnen. Auf diesen Wegen zu reisen ist schnell, effizient und fühlt sich sicherer an. Doch man verpasst dabei so unfassbar viel. Man jagt mit Höchstgeschwindigkeit von Termin zu Termin, von Event zu Event oder von Urlaub zu Urlaub. Und ehe man es sich versieht ist von der Reise kaum noch etwas übrig.
Ich lade Euch ein nach Wegen abseits der Hauptstrecken zu suchen. Nach den unscheinbaren und versteckten Pfaden, die man zu leicht übersehen kann, langsamer und intensiver zu leben und zu erleben.
Man muss dort deutlich mehr auf sich achten, das ist richtig. Doch Achtsamkeit war noch nie ein Fehler.
Das Leben ist voller Wunder, Überraschungen und umwerfender Erfahrungen. Sie warten darauf, von Euch gefunden zu werden.

A misty, foggy morning at the Carrick Flats.
A calm morning and water like glass produced some great reflections with the last remnants of autumn colours.
The Carrick Flats is an area on the River Roe that has two weirs that were used to fuel water down a lade to power a Hydro Electric scheme, in the Roe Valley Country Park, Limavady. A new hydro electric scheme has recently been reinstated using the former lade and a new generator has been installed in the old Generator House at the visitor centre. It has not been used yet, but assume it will be in use in 2017. Some more historical facts can be seen in the link below.

The Battle of Hjörungavágr is a semi-legendary naval battle that took place in the late 10th century between the Jarls of Lade and a Danish invasion fleet led by the fabled Jomsvikings. This battle played an important role in the struggle by Haakon Sigurdsson (c. 937 – 995) to unite his rule over Norway. Traditionally, the battle has been set during the year 986.
On Tuesday we had to say good-bye to our sweet Minnie. She got an aggressive cancer, not operable.
We are so sad...RIP dear Minnie, we all miss you so deeply.

Am Dienstag mussten wir uns von unserer süssen Minnie verabschieden. Sie hatte einen aggressiven Krebs bekommen, der nicht operable war. Ruhe in Frieden, liebe Minnie. Wir alle sind sehr traurig.

En plena ola de calor en España, traigo esta foto que hice el mes pasado de una golondrina tomando el sol en las oras centrales del día.
Como no puede tumbarse, como nosotros, gira todo lo que puede su cuerpo hacia el sol, incluso levanta el ala de esa lado para que el sol le de en el pecho, ladea la cabeza (con el pico abierto por el calor) y abre la cola totalmente, se puede ver la pluma larga de su derecha junto a la alambre en la que se posa y, la otra, paralela al ala izquierda, casi tocándola.
Se ve que es una postura típica, porque en el primer comentario pongo otra foto de otra golondrina en otro sitio y vista por detrás que tiene la misma postura.

🇫🇷Le lac de Fiè (en italien : lago di Fiè, en allemand : Völser Weiher) est un petit lac alpin situé sur le plateau de Fiè à 1 036 m sur la commune de Fiè allo Sciliar (BZ), à environ 25 km de Bolzano
Le lac, entouré de sapins, est situé au pied du massif du Sciliar et de la Punta Santner. Il est alimenté par une source appelée le «sang du Sciliar» (Schlernblut), en raison de son emplacement dans une région où des rites propitiatoires et des sacrifices d'animaux ont été accomplis à l'époque préhistorique. Environ la moitié du lac est occupée par un champ de canne à sucre.
Avec cette photo se termine notre voyage dans le Sud Tyrol Italien , dans les Dolmites.

🇩🇪 Der Völser Weiher ist ein kleiner Alpensee auf dem Völser Hochplateau auf 1.036 m Höhe in der Gemeinde Völs am Schlern (BZ), ca. 25 km von Bozen entfernt.
Der von Tannen umgebene See liegt am Fuße des Schlernmassivs und Punta Santner. Es wird von einer Quelle gespeist, die "Schlernblut" genannt wird, aufgrund ihrer Lage in einem Gebiet, in dem in prähistorischer Zeit Versöhnungsriten und Tieropfer durchgeführt wurden. Etwa die Hälfte des Sees ist von einem Zuckerrohrfeld besetzt.

Il lago, circondato da abeti, si trova ai piedi del massiccio dello Sciliar e di Punta Santner. È alimentato da una sorgente chiamata "sangue dello Sciliar" (Schlernblut), per la sua posizione in una zona dove in epoca preistorica venivano eseguiti riti propiziatori e sacrifici animali. Circa la metà del lago è occupata da un campo di canna da zucchero.
Con questa foto, si ferma la mia serie di album sul nostro soggiorno nelle Dolomiti.....
E domani vi invito a visitare l'isola di Bauté: la Corsica....

Se alimenta de un manantial llamado "sangre del Sciliar" (Schlernblut), debido a su ubicación en una zona donde se realizaban ritos propiciatorios y sacrificios de animales en tiempos prehistóricos. Alrededor de la mitad del lago está ocupado por un campo de caña de azúcar.

Black Cart Water - The Linwood Lade
Constructed in the eighteenth century, this cut first powered the Mill of Cart and later Linwood Cotton Mill.
I couldn't decide which shot to take, so I am uploading two :-)
Ich konnte mich nicht entscheiden, welches Bild, also lade ich zwei Bilder hoch :-)
The combination of rain, sleet and strong winds are not perfect for long exposures, but I had to try. Hanging on the tripod while wiping the filters may have caused some motion artifacts, but I think it come out quite ok. Lee big stopper.
Kein besonders beeindruckendes Bild, aber ich lade es hoch, weil sie mittlerweile so selten sind - und alle Trends sind weiterhin stark abnehmend - und das Bild für mich deswegen besonders. In Deutschland gibt es laut letzter Untersuchungen deutlich weniger als 10.000 Paare.
