Jacob's Ladder is a bridleway between Kinder Scout plateau and the hamlet of Upper Booth in the Vale of Edale, in the Derbyshire Peak District of England. In the 18th century Jacob Marshall farmed the land at Edale Head, at the top of what became known as Jacob's Ladder. He cut steps into this steep section of the route up to the Kinder plateau, Jacob's Ladder is also a biblical term referring to the ladder to heaven which Jacob dreamt about.

I was going to call this the window house, but then I noticed how many ladders are attached to this house. This is a new house being built on the Corrotoman River in the Northern Neck of Virginia.
You can be sure this construction is not being done by Earl and Daryl. There are actually safety measures to protect the workers.

Jacob's Ladder is probably the scariest drive in Tasmania. When snow is around it is generally impassable except for all-terrain vehicles. It is a one lane gravel road with room to pass at each hairpin bend.
But the view here from Whymper Bluff looking over to Markham Heights and the valley below is quite spectacular. The name derives from the story of Jacob's dream in Genesis 28. In Jacob's dream he sees a ladder that stretches from earth to heaven, with angels descending upon it.
Whoever gave the road this name certainly had a sense of humour, warning drivers that a simple mistake might be the fastest way to heaven.

Snakes and Ladders is an ancient Indian board game regarded today as a worldwide classic. It is played between two or more players on a gameboard having numbered, gridded squares. A number of "ladders" and "snakes" are pictured on the board, each connecting two specific board squares. The object of the game is to navigate one's game piece, according to die rolls, from the start (bottom square) to the finish (top square), helped or hindered by ladders and snakes respectively.
The game is a simple race contest based on sheer luck, and is popular with young children. The historic version had root in morality lessons, where a player's progression up the board represented a life journey complicated by virtues (ladders) and vices (snakes). A commercial version with different morality lessons, Chutes and Ladders, is published by Milton Bradley.

Jacob's Ladder is one of the most iconic alpine roads in Australia. In icy wintery conditions it is almost impassable. But it sure is fun to drive up and down.
