After the rain/ Nach dem Regen

Detail eines (militärischen) Libellenquadranten ---

Detail of a (military) level quadrant

Bruce, I uploaded this photo for you, we had talked about it; I took the photo about 2 years ago. Maybe I'll do it again. These umbrellas have their own magic.

Gold are the great trees overhead,

And gold the leaf-strewn grass,

As though a cloth of gold were spread

To let a seraph pass.

And where the pageant should go by,

Meadow and wood and stream,

The world is all of lacquered gold,

Expectant as a dream.

Against the sunset's burning gold,

Etched in dark monotone

Behind its alley of grey trees

And gateposts of grey stone,

Stands the Old Manse, about whose eaves

An air of mystery clings,

Abandoned to the lonely peace

Of bygone ghostly things.

In molten gold the river winds

With languid sweep and turn,

Beside the red-gold wooded hill

Yellowed with ash and fern.

The air is flecked with filtered gold,—

The shimmer of romance

Whose ageless glamour still must hold

The world as in a trance,

Pouring o'er every time and place

Light of an amber sea,

The spell of all the gladsome things

That have been, or shall be.

Well, actually, I ran out of time ;) This is my last-minute attempt, photographed last night, no fuss handheld, after numerous attempts of photographing through the peephole of a "magic wand kaleidoscope" that comes with transparent, round plastic sticks that are filled with liquid and floating, glittery stuff that creates the typical patterns when put into the kaleidoscope. Here's a link to the Big River so you can see what it looks like:

It almost worked, but only almost. So I grabbed the nail enamel I bought for the theme, and made a smiley but it looked a little to diffuse, so in the end, I settled for a colourful heart that I painted onto the underside of a white espresso cup (the heart is still there) and then used a toothpick to mix the colours, kind of in a clumsy "wet in wet icing" style.

Exposure metering was set to "HI". I made minimal adjustments in post to make the colours pop a little more than they already did, and slightly brightened the background in the corners where the concave shape of the cup's underside had created a slight vignetting. That's it.

The heart's size is 2x2 cm / 0,78x0,78 inches.

HMM, Everyone, and have a nice week ahead!

P.S. I'm busy today and will catch up with you tonight.

“Russian lacquer art developed from the art of icon painting, which came to an end with the collapse of Imperial Russia. The icon painters, who previously had been employed by supplying not only churches but people's homes, needed a way to make a living. Thus, the craft of making papier-mâché decorative boxes and panels developed, the items were lacquered and then hand painted by the artists, often with scenes from folk tales.” This one seemed incredibly beautiful to me....

💄✨ BRAHAM FASHION – NEW MAKE UP EVOX (BOM) ✨💄

I don’t hide behind makeup.

I apply it with intention.

The new EvoX Make Up by Braham Fashion transforms my face into a masterpiece of precision and seduction — each layer placed deliberately, each detail refined to perfection.

🔥 The Eyes

The eyeliner is pure couture artistry — elongated, razor-sharp, and unapologetically bold. A vivid crimson wing extends with dramatic confidence, edged in a subtle leopard motif that hints at instinct beneath elegance. It’s editorial glamour with a predatory edge — vintage bombshell energy fused with modern, high-definition precision.

The red gradient shadow blends seamlessly across my lids, intensifying my gaze. The feline flick lifts and elongates my eyes, sculpting my expression into something powerful, magnetic, unforgettable.

These eyes are designed to captivate.

💋 The Lips

Then I apply the lacquered crimson to my lips.

Full. Sculpted. Decadently glossy. The pigment is rich and saturated, with contouring that enhances volume and a delicate highlight that draws attention to every curve. The finish gleams like polished lacquer under soft light.

This red is iconic.

It is confidence in color form.

It is timeless glamour reborn.

🐆 Influence & Motif

EvoX draws inspiration from classic Hollywood beauty, high-fashion editorial drama, and the primal elegance of animal motifs. The leopard accent woven into the liner creates tension — refinement balanced with instinct. It’s beauty that feels both sophisticated and daring.

✨ Available Layers (BOM Compatible)

• Eyeshadow Layer

• Lipstick Layer

• Full Set Layer

This is the first panoramic triptych I've taken in about two years. Needless to say, I was rusty. I also didn't align things properly because I *had* a system, but sort of forgot what it was, and then half-remembered it, but thought I had fully-remembered it, but I was wrong.

So anyway, this is as good as a first attempt in two years could be.

It's also shot on Kodak Copy Film, which I'm *technically* still testing, so it doesn't look quite right. You need to expose each frame exactly like the others. Otherwise, the effect is off.

Also, the sheet I used for the left frame had a bit of moisture damage, which you'll sometimes get with 50 year old film.

I also forgot my "normal" lenses, which I use for these pano-triptychs. The "normal" lenses don't have any detectable fall off at the edge of the frames. The old ass lenses that I usually use have oodles of fall off, which I mitigated as much as possible by shooting it with the aperture closed as far as it would close.

Also, also, also, I cut the film wonky. The holders that I have been using (Toyo) are a sliver of a millimeter smaller than normal ones. For industry-produced 4x5 film, this doesn't matter. But when you cut your own, you have to be super careful, which I wasn't.

But this was a lovely morning scene and I'm glad I shot it. And if you're still reading this, I'm glad you did. Thanks!

(Explored 10/10/16)

The Green Lacquer Room takes its name from the emerald green lacquered furniture from Palazzo Calbo Crotta at Canneregio, with its decorative elements in gilded pastiglia (that is, a kind of stucco made with plaster and marble dust). Eastern and European motifs thus merged to form an independent new style which, it should be specified, was wholly western: this style was known as chinoiserie. Decorative motifs from oriental prototypes were applied to western forms and types, as in the furniture here.

From Google...

"This is probably as "native" as a species can get with respect to fungi; there is an Asian species of lacquered polypore that grows mostly on hardwoods, and this North American species that grows mostly on conifers, especially hemlocks. I took this photo when I was out with my supervisor at a private woodlot in Exeter, Ontario on an enormous hemlock stump of a tree that had likely been cut down in the mid-1800s to support the ever expanding railroad.

The two closely related species of lacquered polypore, Ganoderma tsugae and G. lucidum, both have reported medicinal properties (they have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for the last 2,000 years where the fungus is called "Lingzhi") while both fungi themselves are classified as "inedible" (since they have much the same texture as soft wood or hard cardboard, even after being cooked, and are not poisonous).

The reported active chemicals in the lacquered polypores are called ganoderic acids, which closely resemble steroid hormones.

There are many, many reported health benefits of these extracted acids, but whether any of these benefits are likely in terms of how much you can get from drinking a tea made from these species of Ganoderma is still up for debate.

Among the reported benefits are anti-tumor effects, anti-inflammatory effects, inhibiting platelet aggregation, lowering blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, lowering blood glucose, and protection for the liver from viral infections like hepatitis.

The traditional way to prepare the tea is to thinly slice fresh or dried fruiting body and to put it in boiling water where it will cook for two hours. The tea can be sweetened with sugar or flavoured with lemon juice (the tea is incredibly bitter) before consumption."

I haven't seen one of these for several years...it was on a long fallen log , this morning.
