Shortly after I took this photo she was dismantled there and slid inside a C-5A Galaxy transport and flown to RAF Mildenhall in the UK
Roaded to nearby Duxford and then refurbished, she is now one of the exhibits inside the IWM's American Air Museum there as 'Dugan'
Lackland apparently replaced her with a full-size Fibre-Glass replica!

US Air Force Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird 64-17979 preserved at Lackland AFB, Texas, back in November 1998
Nicknamed the 'Habu' - many myths surround this amazing aircraft - one being that because the use of the 'SR' prefix broke convention, rumour has it that when President Lyndon B. Johnson finally broke the news that the US had this very special Top Secret' machine - instead of naming it the RS-71, he inadvertently used the designation 'SR-71' which required a swift adjustment by the gathered 'suits'........the rest, as they say "is history"
Note the second Blackbird on the grass behind her

A weird plane with an interesting history. The F-82 was designed as a long-range escort fighter in World War II, but was far too late to see action.
Radar-equipped Twin Mustangs were in time to fly over Korea. The night fighters had an extremely long combat range of more than 1600 miles (even more with droptanks). Both pilot and copilot could fly the plane while the other had a rest. 272 were built.
46-0262 is still on display at Lackland AFB.

The Air Force Basic Military Training Graduation ceremonies are surprisingly emotional to witness. The Airman Creed is recited twice, first during the Coin Ceremony and again the next day at the Graduation Ceremony. My son recently graduated, and when I returned home, I wanted to find a way to capture the power of the moment. This is what I ended up with. My son has moved on to Security Forces Technical School.

In 1994 51-5303 was sold to a private operator that put it back into the air with registration N41011 and later N85303. It was flown by many different owners at airshows all over the US in its original USAF markings and finally in beautiful (but fake) US Navy colours as 137922 'Midway'.
Between 2011 and 2013 51-5303 was grounded permanently for the second time. It's now preserved in a place that's called the 'Greatest Generation Naval Museum' in Colorado Springs. No recently taken photos seem to exist.
