Example of high-percentage chrysotile asbestos yarn textile material, found in a laboratory setting. Interestingly, the yarn is wound on original, asbestos millboard material.

While there are probably many uses for fireproof yarn, this asbestos textile material was apparently needed for certain laboratory experiment setups.

A laboratory from the 1700 or 1800's...

Soli Deo Gloria!

To explore words as if they were reality, to search for answers to wild questions, to look closer in order to see down through the depths...

I have been working on a small series of images where I create dresses out of small objects. The books here are one of my largest "small objects" yet, but it proved to be an added challenge in ways that I didn't expect. They were nice to work with because I didn't need as many to construct the dress (whereas I have previously used over a thousand of a single object)...but they did require some finessing when it came to blending, as they naturally have more detail. Being bigger, it is only appropriate that we see that detail. I have been enjoying zooming in and reading some pages as I edit...save for the few that I mirrored in Photoshop!

Laboratory Glassware on a stand. I'm a Geologist, not a Chemist, so don't ask me what's going on here. I just like the look of the setup.

There are actually two of this kind and they were designed for experiments with constant temperature and air pressure.

These units are not in use any longer since quite a while and are listed buildings.

My boy salvaged these peices of laboratory equipment to make.......laboratory equipment! LOL!

On the left is a stasis chamber and on the right is a controll panel. He has plans. Alpha Male Red Stikfas looks curious.

Alpha Male Red Stikfas is standing on a stack of mod roc which my son also aquired as it was surplus to it's previous owner's requirements.

Pacific Biological Laboratories operated as a biological supply company specializing in preserved specimens and prepared microscope slides, many derived from marine and aquatic species. The laboratory provided materials to schools, museums, and research institutions, and was housed in a building located on what is now Cannery Row, overlooking Monterey Bay in Monterey, California.

The building, its enterprise, and its proprietors were immortalized by John Steinbeck in Cannery Row, where it appeared as the “Western Biological Laboratory.” One of the novel’s central figures, inspired by co-founder Ed Ricketts, pays homage to Ricketts’s influence on both the scientific and literary history of the region. Following a 1936 fire, Steinbeck became financially involved in the laboratory, acquiring half of its stock.

A closer look at the interior of the Scary Laboratory.

I built the towers separately so they can be rearranged to suit different layouts.

The main section includes the operating table and 'Lightning machine' along with some potion vials and a small generator.

The West tower features the 'Test tube room' filled with odd, bulbous sickly green tubes containing the supposed remains of victims of the Mad scientist.

The East Tower features the generator and control panel for the lightning machine.
