Long closed feed store in downtown McConnell,IL.

Abandoned cafe in the semi ghost town of Roxbury,KS. about 4 years ago. I'm sure by now someone has grabbed that old Pepsi machine! Happy window wednesday all!

Roxbury was first settled around Civil War times and grew to some prominence in the very early 1900's. But like many other early Kansas towns,it failed to secure a railroad and has slowly withered away since then....

Another piece of vintage Americana in what's left of the old downtown in tiny McConnell,IL. This was the old repair shop, and is one building away from the old feed store that I uploaded last week.McConnell is typical of many small rural Midwestern towns-a storied history which capped in the 1950's and has been slowly decaying since then.It has many ghosts of its past still on display, waiting for that history to be rewritten again....

Randall Park Mall rules. Be warned: if you don't follow them, YOU LEAVE (or will be arrested!) - Randall Park Mall, North Randall Ohio - 6/1/08

Old wholesale warehouse, full of vintage labelscars, near the tracks in Salem,IL. The building is still in use,but they are out of stock of Scout coffee LOL

Happy signage Saturday all!

Randolph & Franklin, I think? I went by the buildings here a few times before they were torn down in late 2015

Random junk store operating out of a vintage Foot Locker (that seems to be the fate for vintage Foot Locker stores).

**5/23/09 - had to stop by today (Game Stop and then right back out) and it was slim pickings at the General Store. Not sure if they're closing or not, but the shelves and racks weren't this full.

The old railroad depot in the ghost town of Rhyolite,NV. has seen many different uses over the last 100+ years. After the town was abandoned in the early 1910's,the tracks were taken up.It has been used as a museum, restaurant, warehouse, and a casino over the years since then.It now sits empty.

Rhyolite is one of the most accessible and popular ghost towns in Nevada, mainly due to the ruins of many fine stone buildings still standing. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This has been here forever. It's original to the mall.

Edgewood Shopping Center located 2080 Channing Ave. in Palo Alto,CA. This shopping center constucted in 1958 was the sole center designed by well known mid-century architect Joseph Eichler. The anchor tenant was a Lucky Store which by the mid 1990's had become quite run-down. When it fell into the hands of Albertsons in 1999 nothing was remodeled and the center continued going downhill and by 2006 was largely vacant and by August 2006 was without a grocery store due to Albertsons closing. There have been plans for a redevelopment to occur at some point but as of March 2009 nothing has taken place to show that a renovation is in the works.

Here is the Lucky Store in 1985...

Can't believe I didn't notice this. The 90s-era "SEARS" logo is most apparent, but if you look carefully, you can make out the original, 50s-era, cursive "Sears" logo as well! Thanks to styertowne for pointing it out.

Here's a very rough drawing of where the 2 logos were: www.flickr.com/photos/bluffcityelevators/29238629556/in/d...

Thought a closeup of the coolest Corinth Kmart relic I found would be kind of fitting for the lead off photo of my last batch from the late May 2018 Ollie's visit.

Here's yet another view from the middle aisle, looking toward the right side wall. I kind of like how it shows how well-matched the aisle markers are to the wall décor.

Despite the "Believe" billboard changing right beyond the Everything .98¢ sign since April (flic.kr/p/snUG8d), the owners of this site still believe they can sell this eyesore evidently, as evidenced by the For Sale sign sitting out front now, further down in this view. So the "journey" here hasn't ended yet -- get it, because it's a song title by the band Journey? -- nevermind!! Anyway, I have to wonder how much they're spending on the demolition of a massive building that was only worth $15,000!? Since it was an equipment company that occupied this location last, perhaps they're doing the demolition themselves, which would account for the slow pace of the work here. Hey, as long as they're making progress, I would imagine everyone's happy! More photos planned for the near future...

Despite this restaurant operating for almost 15 years, there isn't much of a labelscar where the sign used to be.

Sears labelscar (50s-era and 80s-era) with demolition

Former Gemco Discount Store labelscar clearly visable on the side of what is now a Target store located on McHenry Ave. in Modesto,CA.

Remember the immoral decision that I made to go behind the forbidden curtain to get photos of the Kmart Cafe menu board? Today the curtain was gone and the sign was on full display for all to see! What a strange contrast.

Tempting fate, I went back with some friend to get some more photos of the now closed Chesapeake Kmart store. We went around for at least ten minutes going past the caution taped areas to get photos and panoramas and nobody said a word! I suppose the 911 lady was gone.

Rain, wind, and sun have done little to wipe away this Publix labelscar.

The Mid-century Modern former JC Penney store at the Boulevard Mall (originally the Parkway Mall), probably designed in-house (you can see the P in the frieze) and opened in 1968. It closed in 2017.

The signature "half bullseye" neon had been removed, and has already been puttied in anticipation of new paint.

The two doors (at left) leaning against the wall once separated the pharmacy restroom from the store.

Another view of the interesting floor tile here (and more evidence of removed shelving, as seen near the right side wall of the store.

I think this is the first time I've been in a place and deliberately gotten a shot of aisle 12! The aisle numbers here start at the front left and go around the building in a clockwise direction.

From December 7 to 11, 2016, the Horn Lake Arby's had lost a bit more of it's 90's traits, and gained a small, modern-looking overhang over the drive-thru window.

This may be the only vantage point I haven't yet posted a photo from of the Poplar Ave. Office Depot furniture department. And it actually looks like someone could spread out their stuff on one of those desks, and get some real work done!

Faint labelscar still visible

Opened 1984, closed February 10, 2016, now home of Dirt Cheap.

This looks like a mash of maybe two different décor packages, the beige walls being the giveaway here since generally there were round-bordered department signs up.

Photographed March 16, 2016 on a family trip.

Here's the only other June 2014 view I got of Sears Laurelwood. This again is the building's east side, with what looks like windows at one time toward the front of the wall. It would be really cool to see photos of what the interior looked like back during the late 50's!

One last "drive-thru" type photo - this one appropriately enough in the past tense. The pharmacy was long closed down by the time this photo was taken on May 12, 2018.

While this end cap and everything to the right of it look to be devoid of almost all stock, again we see that curious amount of greeting cards over on the left!

Finally I thought to get a photo from across the street of the bus stop! This is the first of several photos from September 17, 2016 that I plan to post (yep, unfortunately quite a bit transpired here in between the 10th and 17th). Where to fit in those photos is going to be the problem, but at this point I plan to do at least one set of them toward the end of the week.

WEEK 33 – Tuesday Morning Relocation

Back outside, here's one last look at the exterior façade – a close-up of the Dressbarn labelscar and Tuesday Morning's “coming soon” signage. Since this shot was taken, the exterior was painted over, likely to try to disguise the previous tenant's identity, but in my opinion it only stands out more now!

It'll be interesting to see how this store is set up compared to the existing one... while it's gained square footage, it's still a more vertically-oriented space as opposed to horizontal. At least the same friendly employees and customers will be making the move, as well as plenty of new faces as a result!

NEXT WEEK – finally taking that trip down Airways Boulevard, as Dressbarn has done, to see what Tanger Outlets Southaven is all about...

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)

The transformation to Hobby Lobby continues on this former K-Mart location. Wanted to get a shot of the labelscar from both the Garden Shop and Pharmacy before it's gone.

After the obligatory week off from Rite Aid photos (said photos last seen Friday before last), were back again with a look straight on at the entrance/exit doors. Pretty sure those vehicles seen out the doors (if you zoom into the photo) are stopped at the traffic light, as opposed to parked out in the parking lot.

Flickr user styertowne pointed out in one of my latest photos that both the 50's-era and the 80's-era Sears logo labelscars are visible. Here's a rough drawing of where they were.

Here's the unedited photo: www.flickr.com/photos/bluffcityelevators/28981447110/in/p...

We're quickly moving up the road now (and crossing the state line into Memphis), since I have a lot of ground to cover, and only 72 photos to do it in! Here's another location covered briefly in early August 2012, then much more extensively in early 2015, after it's roof collapsed. It took many weeks (seemingly months) to demolish the large structure, and clear away all the debris, but sadly, it's all gone now. Well, gone for the most part, but... (cont.)
