I've been meaning to do this for ages. Ages and ages. The other day my roommate came home with a label maker and the first thing I though was 'Rings!'.
Rene Margritte inspired (of course). This is not platinum, it is the word platinum. worn as a ring. Worn as a platinum ring.
Is the word platinum inherently more valuable then the word silver? Even when it's just ink on plastic?

Kevin and I collaborated on how to organize the patterns -- Sterilite 15-liter hinged-lid boxes are just deep enough to hold an average-sized pattern envelope on its side and they're sorted by category (dresses, costumes, etc.) with dividers made from posterboard and labelmaker labels.

I used an upcycled Little Golden Book that I purchased on Etsy. Added the title stickers and labelmaker strips, and the ribbon on the coil binding. The book had the original story in it, but sadly I had to remove it just to fit all my altered journal pages in. As it is, the book had 2 of my 2 pound weights on it, trying to compress it. I'm scared to death that when I start using it daily, I'm going to lose some pages out of the binding. Next year, I will plan less complicated pages...

Instruction booklet and parts list with prices. For a machine aimed at the industrial market, the instructions are rather juvenile.
Recently I was at Michael's and found the Dymo Buddy on clearance. I hadn't seen a Dymo machine in years and of course I had to get it. It looks like the machine had been redesigned to introduce it to the current market but I guess it didn't take off.
I had one as a kid and used to love making all kinds of labels with it. The crunching of the tape as you embossed each letter is so satisfying, and I love the three-dimensionality of it. It's so nice to run your hands over the tape and feel the letters. My unit only came with navy blue tape but I need to get some fun colors and relabel my everything with the Dymo Buddy.

Commercial tapewriter. The machine was sitting by itself on a shelf at Goodwill. Someone had taken it out of its box, which I found by chance on another shelf. All the goodies were there including a box of tapes (including two metal ones), the instruction manual (with a cartoon tiger giving the instructions), an extra printwheel in its own case, a parts list with prices, and a little plastic burnisher used to make sure the tape stays stuck. The whole works cost $12.99.
So for Halloween '05 I decided to drive to the Bay Area and visit the gang up there. On the Saturday night before, the girls of Team Hawaii decided we would have a drinking party so they could get rid of all the bottles of alcohol that were lying around their apartment. Someone (who will remain nameless) thought it would be a great idea to do soju shooters with tequila chasers.
Oh the folly!
We went through all 3 or 4 bottles of soju and 2 bottles of tequila, plus some other stuff. Everyone got plastered (with the exception of Osvi, Stacy, and Daniel) and later very sick. I threw up all day long the next day. I hadn't been that wrecked in a long time.
So what's the point of the photo? Well, in a nutshell, this:
NEVER LEAVE YOUR CAMERA UNATTENDED AROUND DRUNK PEOPLE WHO HAVE GOTTEN AHOLD OF A LABELMAKER!
I didn't discover their dirty work until a few days later, but it was a funny surprise. I should also point out that these photos were rather hard to take (holding a mirror and a camera in a low-light situation is an exercise in frustration).

browsing pinterest made me want to scrapbook, hah. the smash books seemed suuuper cute! + got some major discounts on these at Michael's and on Amazon ^-^
Another of those things that get "retro'd" a lot in fonts and graphics, but you don't actually see the real thing much anymore. I dunno, Dymo might still make the guns and tapes but the label makers of today are all electronic devices with fonts, and the label tape is clear and very flexible.
Everyone who made labels back in the day had the large black gun, but I found this smaller red one at a thrift store years ago and it came with six different colors of tape. I made my own nametags when I worked at Pizza Hut, to the authority figures' chagrin.
