Yeah, I always wish I were taller. On the other hand, I do know that I should be thankful and happy with who I am and what I have. Alrite, I shall stop complaining.

Landmark in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

An exotic bird that I am familiar with from home but for some reason a bird I didn't expect to encounter on Malaysia. I suppose given the fact that it is also known as a Common Kingfisher I shouldn't have been too surprised. It transpires that it has a residential range right through Europe, much of Southern Asia and even has a presence in North Africa.

Each afternoon during our stay in Kuala Lumpur there would be a thunderstorm for between half an hour and a hour. This particular day during my two hour walk around the botanical gardens the park remained dry and only when it was time for me to walk back across town did I receive the expected soaking.

This is a view taken from the southern end of the park looking towards the tower blocks of the city.

The Cannonball flowering tree holds cultural and religious significance in India, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia, with various beliefs attached to it. In Hinduism, the flowers are associated with Nagas, serpent-like water guardians, and are cultivated at Shiva temples due to their resemblance. A Sri Lankan botanical garden mistakenly identified the Cannonball tree, originally from Guyana in South America, as the Sal tree. The Sal tree holds significance as the tree that Queen Maya of Shakya clung to during the birth of Siddhartha, who later became the enlightened Buddha. As a result, the Cannonball tree is also revered as a sacred tree among Buddhists.

Throughout Asia, the flowers of the Cannonball tree are widely regarded as symbols of prosperity and abundance.
