Rosenskära tillhör familjen korgblommiga växter eller asterväxter, Asteraceae, och har sitt ursprung i Mexikos vulkanområden, där den även går under namnet mexikansk aster. Rosenskära är en av världens mest spridda ettåriga blomma som växer på alla kontinenter utom Antarktis. Det vetenskapliga namnet på rosenskära är Cosmos bipinnatus − cosmos från grekiskans ”kosmos”, som betyder ordning eller prydnad. Bipinnatus betyder ”i två delar” eller ”två vingar”, vilket syftar på bladens placering på stjälken.
Rosenskära gynnar det goda insektslivet i trädgården
Vi kan alla bidra till en inbjudande miljö för våra livsviktiga bin, humlor, steklar och fjärilar. Rosenskära, liksom andra korgblommiga växter, har öppna lättillgängliga blommor vilket innebär att pollinatörer inte behöver vara specialiserade på just den växten utan en bred variation av nyttoinsekter söker sig villigt dit för att hitta nektar och pollen. Som tack för en trivsam miljö att vistas i arbetar insekterna intensivt med att pollinera trädgården. De rensar också bland skadedjuren genom att livnära sig på deras ägg och larver.
