It’s funny that I spend so much of my life trying to simplify…. my life.

From apps to pre-order my coffee to home delivery for my groceries, my world seems to be a constant pursuit of comfort and ease.

So why is it that I feel happier in a cold, bare and uncomfortable tent? Why is it that cooking a meal in my slow cooker seems like more effort than boiling snow to make noodles in a tiny pot balanced on a rock?

Is it because adventure is not outside ourselves but within us? I don’t know the answer but sometimes having things figured is boring so in the words of Winnie the Pooh;

“when you see someone putting on his big boots, you can be pretty sure that something good is about to happen”.

Let’s go on and do something good.

Last weekend I went down to the Kosciusko national park and spent the weekend with fellow One of A Kind Photographers, Tim Poulton, Jake Anderson, Sarah Hatton, Mel Sinclair and Tim Donnelly.

This location does not disappoint and we were treated to some stunning conditions over the course of our sta

The Kosciusko County Courthouse in the afternoon sun on a spring afternoon. We made a quick visit here while in the area earlier this month. I love seeing the architecture in these old courhouses - it must have required quite an investment from the county when it was built and I'm sure it was and is a source of comminity pride.

After a long and arduous hike in through deep snow we had arrived at Seamans Hut and went about setting up our campsite and enjoying a truly stunning afternoon. There hadn’t been a breath of wind and with the temperature only just below zero we were very comfortable.

Once the sun set we fired up our small gas cookers and heated up some dinner. When you’re in the mountains and bereft of common comforts such as light and TV time seems to really slow down and the evening was still young.

There are countless reasons why I love to escape city life. Amongst the many however, there is one which never ceases to impress me – that is, the colossal night sky. Away from the bright lights the magnificence of the universe becomes undeniably amazing.

With the last light of the day finally gone the show had begun, above us was one huge sky and in front of me was one beautiful alpine hut that was so coincidently positioned perfectly below a quickly emerging milky way.

The temperature was dropping fast and i had a warm sleeping bag and good book calling my name so I fired off this last shot and said good night to a perfect day ✨

After a cold night in the tent there's nothing like warming up to a hot sunrise ❄️ - ☀️

Two years ago to the day I took this photo high up in the Australian alpine.

Unaware of the coincidental timing, I had plans on camping there this weekend but it seems like the weather gods have decided to change plans 💨 ❄️ 😕

I've never been one to shy away from a little harmless yet extravagant over-engineering and I was in perfect form the day before I took this photo with a completely excessive amount of work anchoring my tent into the snow with oversized snow pegs and buried blocks of ice which, had given the comedians camping with me plenty to work with.

A few hours after I'd finished work on my aptly labelled 'Fort Knox' we noticed some dark clouds beginning to appear on the horizon. I was so excited but they were quickly dismissed by the others in favour of the forecast which, was still calling for a calm night...

The next morning came and I woke to an aftermath of ripped and wrangled tents from a surprise storm that had kept everyone up frantically trying to save their gear and make it through.

As it would turn out, that was the best nights sleep I'd had in a while and now I was the only one up to enjoy the beautiful sunrise ❄️💨

I'm checking in with this upload to say I'm still around. Work has been busy, so I'll be uploading less over the next few weeks.

I've taking this shot during a recent trip to Snowy Mountains and Mount Kosciusko. To get the extra long exposure I had to slap on my polarizer, which was the only filter a brought with me.

Thank you so very much! Front page and explore!

After a rather windy night I was relieved to see the wind drop off at dawn. Hedley Tarn is tucked away just to the south of Blue Lake. It’s fed from the lakes outlet into blue creek which you can see spilling into the tarn in this shot.

Surrounding the entire area here was snow and this shot actually had snow to the bottom which I have cropped out. Whilst I was fortunate to have the tarn uncovered the recent spring thaw has meant that the vibrancy of the landscape is a little dull as the vegetation is still coming back to life. I can only imagine that in a few months from now the colours here will be bright and alive with grass and wildflowers.

I love this part of the Australian alpine and it’s one I’m confident I’ll continue to hike back to many more times (maybe just with a lighter load next time).

After some beautiful flights over Blue Lake and Hedley Tarn I turned Goose around to bring her back and wrap up a what had been a great couple of days.

This was final view before coming in. Another small set of tarns, wrapped through the landscape.

I don’t think this has the same magical feel as the aerial over Hedley Tarn taken a few minutes earlier but it’s a fun example of the dramatic landscape that makes up the Australian Alpine in spring.

I couldn’t believe how lucky we were to score Blue Lake with these massive ice breaks. Turning the last corner and seeing the beautiful lake in front of us filled with ice was just surreal. Canada. New Zealand. Argentina. Not Australia.

As sunset quickly approached the ice was quickly vanishing before our eyes but thankfully the lower alpine overnight temps saved us and with the wind all but gone it was time to see what they looked like from above.

Two hikers begin the gentle climb towards the summit of Mount Kosciusko. This shot was actually taken from our campsite. During the course of the morning there was some awesome light across the valley caused by light being diffused by the clouds.

Oh I miss winter already.

I’m back in Sydney from another power trip into the beautiful Kosciusko National Park in search of some snow caves from the spring thaw.

Whilst the snow caves alluded us, Blue Lake did not.

This shot shows the huge snow breaks in the water at the entrance of the lake with the outflow waterfall in the right of the screen. 30min before shooting this I was lucky enough to score a terrific shot from that very waterfall.

Having picked up my new 21mm Loxia last weekend I was excited to finally get it airborne and am truly stunned at the quality. Paired with the 42megapixel A7Rll sensor the resolving power is incredible, at full resolution it looks amazing!

Now for a warm shower and some sleep!

If your number one goal is to make sure that everyone likes and approves of you, then you risk sacrificing your uniqueness, and, therefore, your excellence.

Early morning at Rainbow Lake in Kosciusko National Park.

With a gentle wind whispering in my ear.

A bright moon gazes at me through the stars and my fear.

Wandering through the tors, I marvel at its beauty.

All shades of snow, covering the grounds on which I softly tread.

Sometimes I sense a wild brumby staring in wonder at my appearance.

And silently I watch, wondering if it’s are aware of what's coming to them.

But a strange unnatural noise in the distance startles the brumby,

and I see it speeding off.

I softly weep, for I know that

the days of comforting silence are coming to an end.

Under a moonlit sky, I wander through the tors,

marveling at its beauty, the serenity, the natural silence.

The sky is full of stars and wonder; It makes me weep.

I see some heavily mutilated animals, running towards me in panic.

I am shocked at the selfishness of the men who thought of this destruction.

Of the earth on which I was born and raised.

Under a moonlit sky, I wander through the tors,

a deathly silence around the scorched ghostlike shadows.

Even for the Brumbies of the wild, there is no escape

from the wars which scorch the earth.

Defeat will mean the final death of us all.

This is a ridge in the Snowy Mountains in the Kosciusko National Park Australia. I struggled out of the tent in icy conditions and then saw some beautiful light. Taken on the Nikon D810 using the 16-25 lens great combination for landscape.
