Köln Cathedral, Germany.
'Had another opportunity to return to Köln (Cologne) yesterday. The weather here in Germany was unbelievably, almost surreally nice, and it seemed like a crime to just let it pass without going out. At night, it was just perfect, no wind at all, very little clouds, everything was calm, sunset was colorful and blue hour did not disappoint.
This cathedral is probably my favorite among all the churches that I've seen, photographically speaking at least.

Mein schönstes Foto aus Köln, gestern bei stahlendem Sonnenschein fotografiert: v.r. Kölner Dom, Kirche Groß St. Martin, die Altstadt, der Fernsehturm "Colonius" und im Vordergrund ein Fahrgastschiff auf dem Rhein.
Eenmaal in de kathedraal is het allereerst de enorme omvang die opvalt. Met een lengte van 144 meter, een breedte van 86 meter en 44 meter tot het plafond is het tot op de dag van vandaag een van de grootste kerken ter wereld.
Skulptur aus Nussbaumholz, 170 cm hoch, zwischen 1307 und 1317 wahrscheinlich in Köln entstanden, ein Meisterwerk von grosser Schönheit und hohem Rang. Originale Farbreste beweisen, dass die Madonna früher eine prunkvolle Farbfassung mit Vergoldungen, reichen Verzierungen und einer lebendigen Gesichtsfarbe trug. Die Figur wurde umfangreich restauriert und am 30.03.2012 der Öffentlichkeit wieder präsentiert. Zufällig war ich zu der Zeit in Maulbronn und konnte einige Bilder von der Madonna machen.
Maulbronner Madonna - Sculpture made of walnut wood, 170 cm high, from 1307 to 1317 probably created in Cologne, a masterpiece of great beauty and high rank. Original paint remains to prove that the earlier Madonna wore an ornate gilt frame with color, rich ornamentation and a vibrant face color. The figure has been extensively restored and presented to the public again on 30/03/2012. I happened to be at the time in Maulbronn and able to take some pictures of the Madonna.

Een bezoekje aan Köln ditmaal op hoger niveau vanaf de Triangel. Op deze heldere dag is een mooie blik over de Hohenzollernbrücke en het Kölner Hauptbahnhof. Tegen de horizon is de industrie goed zichtbaar.
In Köln ein Klassiker. Das gesamte Gewicht der Schlösser wird auf rund 45 Tonnen geschätzt. Wer etwas Geduld hat wartet auf einen roten Zug.
Cologne Cathedral (German: Kölner Dom, officially Kölner Dom, English: Cathedral Church of Saint Peter) is a Catholic cathedral in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne and of the administration of the Archdiocese of Cologne. It is a renowned monument of German Catholicism and Gothic architecture and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. It is Germany's most visited landmark, attracting an average of 20,000 people a day, and currently the tallest twin-spired church at 157 m (515 ft) tall, second in Europe after Ulm Cathedral and third in the world.
Construction of Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 but was halted in 1473, unfinished. Work did not restart until the 1840s, and the edifice was completed to its original Medieval plan in 1880. The cathedral is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and has the second-tallest spires. The towers for its two huge spires give the cathedral the largest façade of any church in the world. The choir has the largest height to width ratio, 3.6:1, of any medieval church.
Cologne's medieval builders had planned a grand structure to house the reliquary of the Three Kings and fit its role as a place of worship for the Holy Roman Emperor. Despite having been left incomplete during the medieval period, Cologne Cathedral eventually became unified as "a masterpiece of exceptional intrinsic value" and "a powerful testimony to the strength and persistence of Christian belief in medieval and modern Europe".
