This photo was taken from the road laid out along the Susobana-gawa. The yellow foliage in the centre is Iroha-momiji (Japanese maple, Acer palmatum), the most popular maple species. It would turn red in a few days.
Orange foliage in the left is probably Koha'uchiwa-kaede (Siebold's maple, Acer sieboldianum).

27 maple species grow wild in Japan. The one in the photo is supposed to be Koha'uchiwa-kaede (Siebold's maple, Acer sieboldianum).
It is a deciduous understory plant native/endemic to Japan. It is cultivated worldwide and often confused with the better-known Momiji maple (Acer palmatum).
Lakeside path laid out through the burning woodland.
Tall broadleaf trees are mostly Mizunara oak, under which grows Koha'uchiwa maple (Acer sieboldianum).
This is the first photo of the new series focusing on the autumn in Nishina Three Lakes (仁科三湖) in Oomachi.
This photo was taken in a woodland on the way to a view point of Lake Kizaki-ko (木崎湖) that is 70 km south of Itoigawa.
The maple shrub in autumn colour is supposed to be Koha'uchiwa-kaede (Siebold's maple, Acer sieboldianum), one of the 27 acer species that grow wild in Japan. It is not famous Iroha-momiji (Japanese maple, Acer palmatum).
The best autumn colour season in Oomachi is early November as compared to early December in downtown Tokyo.
Another shot of the burning autumn woodland taken from the path encircling Lake Aoki-ko.
The maple species in the photo is supposed to be Koha'uchiwa Kaede (Siebold's maple, Acer sieboldianum). It is a popular gardening plant rivalling Momiji or Japanese maple, but those on the Aoki-ko lakeside are wild growth.
Another photo of Koha'uchiwa-kaede on the way to Oguma-yama lookout. It was taken at a higher altitude location than the previous photo.
Autumn leaves in the upper part and the branch in the upper left probably are Mizunara (Quercus crispula). The trunk in the right may be Buna (Japanese beech, Fagus crenata).
Maple trees grow as an understory plant for the above-mentioned tall broadleaf trees.

This American miniature Horse at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is either Giggles or Koha. For some reason it said no publicity, so I even had to do a drawing instead of a photograph. LOL

Sinhalese New Year, generally known as Aluth Avurudda (Sinhalese: අලුත් අවුරුද්ද) in Sri Lanka, is an important Sri Lankan holiday that celebrates the traditional Lunar New Year of the Sinhalese people in Sri Lanka. It is a major anniversary celebrated by not only the Sinhalese people but by most Sri Lankans. The timing of the Sinhala New Year coincides with the new year celebrations of many traditional calendars of South and Southeast Asia. The festival has close semblance to the Tamil New year, Thai New year, Bengali New Year, Cambodian New Year, Lao New Year, Thingyan in Myanmar and Odia New Year festival in India. It is generally celebrated on 13 April or 14 April and traditionally begins at the sighting of the new moon.
The sight of bright red Erabudu flowers and the sweet notes of the Koha (Koel bird) signals that Avurudu (Sinhala and Tamil New Year) is just around the corner. As the day draws near Sri Lankans begin their preparations to usher in the New Year. Loads of sweetmeats are prepared, and shared among family and friends on the New Year’s day signifying new bonds. Among the many flavours, kavum, kokis, dodol, Maa laddu and aasmi are some common sweets that you will love if you are in the Island this season.
Many thanks to all those who view, comment and or fave my photoes.....It is greatly appreciated ......Chandana

A noio kōhā perches on a sea cliff ledge on the north shore of Oahu. Brown noddies are common throughout the tropical Pacific and Atlantic. Head nodding is a part of its courtship repertoire from which its common name is derived.
On the first day of June, on a warm early summer's evening, Koha runs with her stick, in Vancouver's Pacific Spirit Park. She's an old dog now, but does enjoy a few good runs in the Park's many kilometres of trails.

It is a major anniversary celebrated by not only the Sinhalese people but by most Sri Lankans. The timing of the Sinhala New Year coincides with the new year celebrations of many traditional calendars of South and Southeast Asia. The festival has close semblance to the Tamil New year, Thai New year, Bengali New Year, Cambodian New Year, Lao New Year, Thingyan in Myanmar and Oriya New Year festival in India. It is a public holiday in Sri Lanka. It is generally celebrated on 14 April.
According to Sinhalese astrology, New Year begins when the sun moves from Meena Rashiya (the house of Pisces) to Mesha Rashiya (the house of Aries). It also marks the end of the harvest and spring.
A type of cuckoo bird, the Asian koel, has a strong association with the new year celebrations in traditional literature around the festival. The mating season of the bird roughly coincides with the festival season. The mating call of the male is regarded as a heralding sign of the traditional new year. This bird is known as the Koha (කොහා) in Sri Lanka by the Sinhala language. The melodious call Koo-ooo of the male bird is heard throughout Sri Lanka during the breeding season of the bird that roughly spans from March to August.
