Kodachrome, they give us those nice bright colors

They give us the greens of summers

Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah

I got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph

So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew when I was single

Brought 'em all together for one night

I know they'd never match my sweet imagination

Everything looks better in black and white

When I think back

On all the crap I learned in high school

It's a wonder

I can think at all

And though my lack of education

Hasn't hurt me none

I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome

They give us those nice bright colors

They give us the greens of summers

Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah

I got a Nikon camera

I love to take a photograph

So mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew

When I was single

And brought 'em all together for one night

I know they'd never match

My sweet imagination

Everything looks worse in black and white

Kodachrome

They give us those nice bright colors

They give us the greens of summers

Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah

I got a Nikon camera

I love to take a photograph

So mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome

Leave your boy so far from home

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away (ok)

Kodachrome lyrics © Universal Music Publishing Group

Been outdoors for some shooting and i tried to reproduce and remember back the old days when most photographers where shooting kodachrome. Kodachrome is the brand name for a color reversal film introduced by Eastman Kodak in 1935.It was one of the first successful color materials and was used for both cinematography and still photography. For many years Kodachrome was widely used for professional color photography, especially for images intended for publication in print media. Because of its complex processing requirements, the film was sold process-paid in the United States until 1954, when a legal ruling prohibited that. However, the arrangement continued in other markets.

Due to the growth and popularity of alternative photographic materials, its complex processing requirements, and the widespread transition to digital photography, Kodachrome lost market share. Its manufacture was discontinued in 2009, and processing ended in December 2010.

In early 2017, Kodak announced they were investigating the possibility of reintroducing Kodachrome, but later conceded that this was unlikely to happen.

Amidst all of the grandeur in Utah's Big Five National Parks, its state parks give no quarter. We loved our hike in Kodachrome Basin State Park, as seen here in this panoramic taken on April 24, 2023. The Angel's Palace Trail there is recommended for photographers, which is the hike we took. Kodachrome is a short distance from Bryce, so factor it in for your Bryce visit.

Here is a view from Kodachrome Basin State Park in southern Utah, April 24, 2023. Our trip down here had to include a visit here, having named a park for us light-chasers! It isn't just marketing. This is a beautiful place. This photo was taken along the Angel's Palace Trail, one recommended for photographers.

A pair of "Kodachrome" painted Santa Fe SF30Cs lead an eastbound train around a photogenic curve at Getz, Arizona.

At the time, Santa Fe was working to quickly repaint the failed SPSF merger units back to yellow and blue. Catching two Kodachrome units leading a train in 1990 was quite a catch.

Getz is a neighborhood just east of Kingman. Southside Park, in the middle of the big curve was under construction at the time.

a golden moment -

I shot this color slide using Kodachrome ASA 25 on the beautiful island of Taiwan. The subject was a fisherman going home with his fishing net at the end of the day. The original slide was a dull and gray shot with no filters. It did not look like this. I created a new slide with a golden color. How did I make this color before the digital days of Photoshop?

I used my 1:1 macro lens to copy/duplicate a new slide on Canon auto bellows. I used a slide projector as my backlight source during this process. I then inserted a golden vinyl to shine color onto the original slide so I could copy the slide with artificial lighting.

Since my duplicate slide was copied using my Canon AE-1, I scanned my slide on a flatbed scanner to make a digital copy for this upload. The whole process was very manual and slow, but it worked. And best of all, it was fun.

Kodachrome ASA 25 was my film to shoot from.

Here is a wider view of the landscapes one finds in the Kodachrome Basin State Park, east of Bryce Canyon along Scenic Hwy 12, April 24, 2023. This was taken while hiking the Angel's Palace Trail, recommended for photographers.

Tie replacement appears imminent here on the Chillicothe Subdivision, at Romeo, Illinois. We're viewing the hot Santa Fe QNYLA, rotary beacon beckoning, through the gritty, local industrial might. A fitting day for a Kodachrome on Ektachrome.

We were lost in a country road just before sunset near Cannonville, Utah towards Kodachrome Basin, but with some spectacular and amazing views of this colorful landscape. I stopped the car and took this photo, knowing that after a few minutes the vivid colors could fade away.

This color and contrast prompted the National Geographic Society in 1949, with consent from Kodak Film Corp., to name the park Kodachrome.

I used mainly Kodachrome 25 film for slides, with my old cameras and have some excellent vivid color photos that no other film could achieve. But of course those days are history. This is taken with a digital camera
