Taken through chinese fishing nets at Fort Kochi Kerala India

Typical South Indian breakfast served in a pure vegetarian restaurant in Fort Kochi.

Long rice crepe is called Masala Dosa. it is served with Sanbal soup and coconut chutney. Dosa is very thin, and not that heavy as it looks. Vegetarian tradition in South India is very firm even in Fort Kochi.

India is an origin of sugar cane cultivation as well as its refining technique. Sugar is an crucial element of the Indian food culture.

I ordered a cup of black coffee in the restaurant. The one served was black in colour but sugared (^_^;

Just back from a business trip to Kochi, India. Was travelling light so only took the 30mm lens.

This is the first photo I took in Fort Kochi (Cochin) in the Kerala state of India, which is a historical city on the Malabar Coast.

Christmas celebration was continuing here on New Year's Day when I arrived. The monkey pod tree or rain tree (Samanea saman) is located near Santa Cruz Cathedral decorated as a Christmas tree. A few were dancing under the tree.

Tree worship is an element of Hinduism, which may or may not be reflected in the treatment of trees in the Christmas celebration in Fort Kochi

Kochi has been an important port city and an administration base to control Malabar Coast first for the Portuguese starting in the early 16th century, then for the Dutch in 1683 and onwards, and finally for the British in 1795 and onwards until India's independence in 1947.

As a result of the European presence in the area, the percentage of Christian population in Kochi municipality is 38% as compared to the national average of 2.3% according to the 2011 government statistics.

It is noted that Christianity has a long history in Kochi. Descendants of Nestorian christians who migrated from Syria in the 4th century AD have been living in Malabar Coast.

Kochi Castle is one of the twelve castles in Japan whose keeps have survived from before the Edo period. It

is the only castle that retains the form of a main palace connected to the keep, making it a valuable historical site.

Furthermore, the view from the keep and the breeze of southern Tosa that blows through it make it a fascinating castle that evokes a sense of historical romance from the Edo period to the present day.

A sunset picture from the harbor in Kochi. You can see the ever present Chinese fishing nets and a few people at play while a bird sails by. The area was really quite crowded with people waiting for the sunset, but I managed to find a rather quiet spot. I loved the color of the sky. It seems almost green in color. Maybe I almost saw the ever elusive green flash.

This is a picturesque promenade in the city of Kochi, Kerala, built facing the backwaters, and is a popular hangout for the local populace and a tourist magnet. The busy waterfront is known for the marine walkway that is popular for evening strolls. Affluent homes and also offices and shops dot the Broadway. Also backwater cruises leave from jetties by the water.
