There's nothing quite like a game of knockout football to get the old pulse racing! Myself and 422 other hardy souls braved the driving rain of a cold December evening to witness Alloa Athletic take on Cowdenbeath in the Active Nation Scottish Cup Third Round. The original tie had ended in a goalless draw, and this replay would secure a clash with SPL side St. Mirren in the fourth round. There had to be a result on the night, so extra time and penalties loomed if neither side could break the deadlock. Alloa shaded a dull first half, and the second half wasn't much of an improvement until "The Blue Brazil" hit the post to kick-start a frantic last few minutes. Fortunately for my toes, extra time was avoided when Alloa's Mark Gilhaney managed to squeeze the ball home with only two minutes left. Marvellous scenes!

My first ever Kangaroo Paw! This is the Red and Green Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos manglesii). They are popular in nurseries but I had not, until that point, seen one in its native habitat. Absolutely outstanding plants. And rather festive looking! [Wandoo NP, Western Australia]
Knockout Stout is my latest and first all-grain homebrew. It's a coffee infused Russian Imperial Stout, and at 7.7% ABV, it's a bit of a face melter. I designed the label's custom typeface, inspired by Russian letter-forms.
