I knew it was going to be a great sunrise so I got up early and drove down to Bamburgh to shot the castle in the dawn light. I took a few shots of the castle and the dawn which I might post over the next few days, but this was my favourite. I just love how the dawn lights up part of the wood.

I’m jumping forward in my South American images to mix things up a little. This one is from Glacier Grey in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, just west of the Cordillera del Paine where we had spent the past week and a bit trekking through and exploring.
It’s hard to comprehend how big this glacier is (the kayaker in the bottom right will help to give it some scale) not just in the sheer magnitude of the ice face but also in the land coverage – at last account this ice field reportedly covered some 270 square km of land.
What is even harder to comprehend is just how much bigger it was. It’s retreat in recent years is nothing short of terrifying and heart breaking – there’s every possibility that our children may never see these incredible scenes.
The world today is changing and quickly becoming a world we once knew.
Over time, I've been building my castle of love
Just for two, though you never knew you were my reason
I've gone much too far for you now to say
That I've got to throw my castle away
Over dreams, I have picked out a perfect come true
Though you never knew it was of you I've been dreaming
The sandman has come from too far away
For you to say come back some other day
And though you don't believe that they do
They do come true
For did my dreams
Come true when I looked at you
And maybe too, if you would believe
You too might be
Overjoyed, over loved, over me

My 2nd son knew how much I wanted to see Bryce Canyon . He has been out of the country for 2 years , and flew me to Las Vegas to meet him and to hike the canyons and parks of Utah, an amazing memorable best gift...My husband held down the fort at home
Who knew that the Brits invaded and occupied poor Iceland in WW II? I didn't until I coincidentally came across this dilapidated jetty in Hvalfjördur.
Further research turned out that the jetty was part of a maintenance base for British ships and that the UK preemptively occupied Iceland to hinder Nazi Germany from doing so. Nobody was killed in this invasion and in hindsight, Germany had forfeited any plans to do so.
“John knew the best love stories were the ones that were never told. For no medium—no book, no poem, no play or movie—could ever tell a love story in its entirety, its full span and depth, from the exhilarating beginning to the tragic ending of all love stories. He didn’t mind if his life was forgotten—it had never occurred to him to want to be remembered—as long as he had truly lived, and to live life without experiencing one great love story was to not live at all.”

I knew in advance the sun would be setting behind the Maiden's Tower. When I arrived on site, I used the PhotoPills app AR mode to show the path of the sun, and I set my tripod one hour before. The app was spot on; I didn't have to move one inch/cm.
“And he knew, also, what the old man was thinking as his tears flowed, and he, Rieux, thought it too: that a loveless world is a dead world, and always there comes an hour when one is weary of prisons, of one's work, and of devotion to duty, and all one craves for is a loved face, the warmth and wonder of a loving heart.”

“If I knew that today would be the last time I’d see you, I would hug you tight and pray the Lord be the keeper of your soul. If I knew that this would be the last time you pass through this door, I’d embrace you, kiss you, and call you back for one more. If I knew that this would be the last time I would hear your voice, I’d take hold of each word to be able to hear it over and over again. If I knew this is the last time I see you, I’d tell you I love you, and would not just assume foolishly you know it already.”

The tall weeds lay flat down
On the hard flat Kansas ground.
And a sad song in her head,
Kept blowin' round.
She barely even knew his name,
But she liked the way he played the game.
Everybody cheered,
When he scored that last touchdown
Indian Summer,
The wonder,
The hunger,
And the sound of distant thunder.
Indian Summer.
Tangled in a moment of truth.
Bottle of wine in a motel room.
Blue haze circled 'round
The cold gray moon.
While the wind chased the leaves outside.
Passion found a place to hide.
Late September heat,
Couldn't be denied.
You just knew that this had to be mine- right?
The Macro Mondays theme for 12/26/22 is REDUX, wherein we revisit a theme (or multiple themes) from the year’s list and give it another go. I think I have three possibilities, two of which I’ll post….. Btb, if you’ve read this far, 12/26 is also my birthday 🎂🎉🎊

Fall is going fast so I'm trying to get outside and enjoy it. I found this one pretty close to home.
When I reviewed this initially it had more colors than it should for an autumn shot. What I mean by that is there were many purple outlines and strange colorations around the highlights in the trees. As many of you know it had a lot of CA also known as chromatic aberration or color fringing.
That happens when there's a high contrast between light and dark objects, this time in the sky and leaves. It was wrapped along the trees and branches.
Much of this is caused by the lens. In my case, I knew this lens was notorious for CA so I have a process to fix it. If you have ever had the issue and Lightroom just doesn't fix it, there is another method in Photoshop which I've used for the past few years. It goes like this if you would like to try it.
-Create a new layer (ctrl or cmd J)
-Filter, Blur, Gaussian Blur, 15 radius
-Go to that layer and change the blend mode to color. (This will mute some of the colors you want to keep) so...
-Create a mask, invert it (ctrl or cmd I)
-Choose the brush and brush only the areas with the CA and it magically disappears, well not magically.
-Flatten the image and you're done.
There are many ways to fix it, but that is an easy fix I have found. Hope it helps.
This one posed in Ecuador, but Vermilion Flycatchers also nest just 30 minutes from my house. You’d think that would take some of the magic out of it, but no. He showed up like he knew the assignment: bright crimson feathers, hot pink bougainvillea, sage green velvet in the background—like someone hired a stylist with too much access to the color wheel.
And the bird? A five-and-a-half-inch diva with wings. The males always look like they were dipped in strawberry syrup and dared to act casual about it. The females are subtler—grayish, peach-bellied, reasonable. But the males? The males are walking exclamation points.
He didn’t flit. He didn’t hunt. He just perched like a living Valentine and dared me to get the angle wrong.
He’s not here to blend or behave or be meek—
Just a crimson show-off on a bougainvillea boutique.

We knew that roe deer visited our yard, it was clearly visible in the hoof prints. It was also not to be overlooked that our roses, sedum and other flowers had been snacked in the past few days. But we did not expect that a deer would visit our garden during the day while we were sitting nearby in the kitchen....
We knew the chances of seeing or spending time with this hawk ever again was limited a chance of a lifetime so we shot every angle, the hawk continued to pose... a dream come true.
I knew if I held on this image long enough, I would be able to use it..;)
I official have a summer cold. I can't believe it, I've never had a summer cold. I must have picked it up when I went to my Veteran's clinic. That place is like walking through a petri dish. Anyway, I think the worst is over. The sore throat is gone. I no longer fill like I'm in fog bank. I do still have the annoying runny nose, but it's not as bad as it was. So, hopefully, it will have run it course by Monday. Just hanging around the house is driving me crazy
I knew this crane lived by the river. Just before I finished taking images, I heard him in a different place than before. He flew right into the frame I had set up. I just waited a couple of extra seconds to trip the shutter, and here you have the result.

Thank you all so much for your comments, faves and invites!! <3
Lake Michigan in Gary, IN. I really wanted to get some winter shots of the beach, but I'm such a baby when it comes to the cold that I didn't get out of my car lol. I need to toughen up and walk onto the beach so I can get some better pics.
Big thanks for the textures

"Non sapeva cosa avrebbe voluto, capiva solo quant'era distante, lui come tutti, dal vivere come va vissuto quello che cercava di vivere."
I.C.
You took my hand
You showed me how
You promised me you'd be around
Uh huh
That's right
I took your words
And I believed
In everything
You said to me
Yeah huh
That's right
If someone said three years from now
You'd be long gone
I'd stand up and punch them out
Cause they're all wrong
I know better
Cause you said forever
And ever
Who knew
Remember when we were such fools
And so convinced and just too cool
Oh no
No no
I wish I could touch you again
I wish I could still call you friend
I'd give anything
When someone said count your blessings now
'fore they're long gone
I guess I just didn't know how
I was all wrong
They knew better
Still you said forever
And ever
Who knew
Yeah yeah
I'll keep you locked in my head
Until we meet again
Until we
Until we meet again
And I won't forget you my friend
What happened
If someone said three years from now
You'd be long gone
I'd stand up and punch them out
Cause they're all wrong and
That last kiss
I'll cherish
Until we meet again
And time makes
It harder
I wish I could remember
But I keep
Your memory
You visit me in my sleep
My darling
Who knew
My darling
My darling
Who knew
My darling
I miss you
My darling
Who knew
Who knew
I knew there was a reason that I kept this pretty green bottle (full size less than 3"). I like the shadow as much as the bottle - HMM!
That is, no dinner for us; sorry I knew nothing about him.
The plan was to come here for sunset (7:10pm) and leave by 7:30pm - the restaurant closed at 9pm, it's about an hour drive away.
We were going to try pasties for the first time - yummy in our tummies! 😊
As we got closer to this area, the time zone changed from Eastern DST to Central DST, we gained a whole hour; how great was that?!?
So now sunset was at 6:10pm, we could hang around longer for the afterglow! 😁
The lights were fading fast and not much of an afterglow, so we left at 6:55pm, should arrive the restaurant by 8:05pm; perfect!
Once we punched in the destination, sweet Google Map Lady told us that the restaurant would be closed by the time we arrived - 9:05pm.
🤔🤔🤔
It turned out that all but four counties and two cities in Michigan observe Central Time, the restaurant and hotel observe Eastern Time. 😨
Good thing it's a road trip, we had ramen in the car.
It's so rural out there that there were no other towns nearby.
**********
"Before time zones were introduced, every place used local observation of the sun to set their clocks, which means they used local mean time, every city different based on their longitude.
Time zones were introduced in the United States in 1883. They were introduced in different years based on local decisions. Michigan adopted Central Standard Time throughout the state effective September 18, 1885. In 1915, Detroit changed to Eastern time, followed by most of the rest of the state in 1931.
In 1967, when the Uniform Time Act came into effect, the Upper Peninsula went under year-round CST, with no daylight saving time. In 1973, the majority of the peninsula switched to Eastern Time; only the four western counties of Gogebic, Iron, Dickinson, and Menominee continue to observe Central Time." ...Wikipedia

Thanks for your visit!
I never knew how much love my heart could hold until someone called me Grandma.......You have my heart and soul.
I now have four grandkids ranging in age of 8 months to 23 years. This sweet boy was three in this shot and is now nine.
I knew I would enjoy our day at Solomon's Castle when we were greeted by this handsome Lord! First we were greeted in the parking lot by a pretty tabby and as we entered the grounds this handsome fella lead us to the castle. He seemed to enjoy a few rubs from my husband. I have been corrected and this Lord is actually a Lady!
Happy Caturday and enjoy your weekend!
I knew when I got out of bed this morning things were not just going to go right.

#Pins
I knew early on what would be my subject for the "Pins" theme: pins on an old motherboard. For my "Modern Times" style image for the MM theme "cogwheel" back in 2018 (please see the second comment) I'd wanted a circuit board as background, but didn't have one at hand. So I went to a very small computer shop around the corner and asked if they had an old, useless circuit board lying around – they had, and I got it for free. To carry it home, however, was a spiky affair. I'd thought that I'd simply put the mainboard under my arm, but I hadn't been aware that there are so many tiny, super spiky-prickly-sharp pins on a mainboard ;) So in the end I held it – in turns – at the sides (gingerly) or at the ports that would have been at the back of the computer chassis. A lasting memory, as it seems ;)
I've photographed the undersides of a row of connector pins that are plugged onto the edge of the mainboard. Each of them is 1 mm / 0,03 inches long. I've used both extension tubes (10mm/16mm) and the Raynox DCR-250 close-up lens to get as close to the pins as possible. For the yellow/golden light I've used a yellow, semi-translucent cap of a soap bottle that fits so nicely onto the LED lamp's head. I was surprised that the pins looked so soft(-ish), and with the smooth, minimalist bokeh and the background colour (apparently the living room wall, because I hadn't put anything behind the mainboard) the final result reminded me of a corps de ballet or a chorus line. Or of chess pawns, but I prefer the aforementioned idea that these are dancers on an opera stage.
HMM, Everyone! Stay safe and healthy, and have a pleasant week ahead :)
