"Truthfully? I am afraid to look her in the eyes," said Barry.
"What a shame," says Gerrie, "because she is pretty but has some weird hair."
Never a dull moment with the Bears.
Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday
We knew we needed some extra cabinet space, and countertop space in the apartment. I thought about the many kits that can be purchased, however, most didn't offer as wide a countertop as what I wound up with by building my own. And after building a kit desk about a month ago and having to modify the build because of misaligned fittings I vowed no more kits for me. They often come in damaged, or with missing parts, or the case of the desk, dowels that were not aligned properly to fit in their mated holes, plus a back panel that required me to take a saw to it in order to make it fit! So, I started looking at pre-assembled cabinets, kitchen types, or in the case of my build above, a nice bathroom vanity with no top, back, or interior shelf...all easily rectified, and not with a lot of skill needed. At first, we were going to use butcher block for the top, and Lowe's sells a nice one. But, it was roughly a foot longer than I needed, and therefore would need to be cut. And it was unfinished, it did require some extra work that a quartz top would solve. However, the quartz top was about $!50 more than the butcher block, but overall maintenance would be reduced, and with less labor involved. The vanity itself was the most pricy item, but there were others that were less expensive that still could have been used as a base. Of course, and typical of us, we liked the more expensive one. The vanity comes in a box and is fully assembled, and no drawers to build, which is a blessing that you don't get in kit builds. We purchased the base vanity plus some additional material (wainscoting, moldings, etc) from Home Depot. "No man is an island," but he can build one. :)

Our kitchen island is inhabited by rabbits right now. When we were gifted these peonies today I knew just where they had to go.
Many thanks to Sarb's generous father who tends a big garden.
I know you want to see my kitchen, so you are welcome;-)
The island in the kitchen is just used for fun...seasonal flowers, cards, decorations...so this is what I have so far!
You can see the inside of the eggs better in large, I think.

During the month of October, every evening after dinner, we treat ourselves to some Halloween fortune cookies which are kept in a wooden basket on our kitchen island.
The other day, our kitty Frodo was feeling frisky, racing around the house doing his afternoon zoomies when he suddenly jumped up on the island and sat next to that basket, as if he wanted a treat, too!
Occasionally he'll jump up on the counter, and we tell him firmly to get down, but in all the time he's been with us I don't think I've ever seen him on the island.
But when I saw him sitting next to that basket with that expectant look, I had to race for my camera, grabbed a few shots, and then told him to get down... which he did. Good boy!

What a great surprise this afternoon, when one of my nieces showed up with a "cheese log" she'd made in the shape of a skull and crossbones, complete with crackers and a very decorative plate to serve it all on!
Here it is, Front & Center on our kitchen island, along with some of our other Halloween decorations, and yes, those are fortune cookies, complete with creepy, spooky and ever so silly fortunes!
So, now, we get to follow Flickr Rule #1, and eat our edible prop! In all honesty, my sister and I had nearly eaten half the cheese log before I got a chance to edit this shot! LOL!
Happy Halloween to all, and hope you get some yummy treats, and no tricks, this Halloween, too!
Sole wonders where the ten promised fish are. Sole, they are still outside in our little patio pond and my sister's two balcony ponds.
This is our latest project; a 38 gallon aquarium with all the bells and whistles (mirrored heater, LED lights, waterwheel, etc). It sits on the kitchen island and can be seen from almost anywhere in the house.
One step at a time. No leaks yet! We excitedly await fishy habitation!
This morning when I went to pour out yesterday's leftover coffee from my cup, I spotted a little moth floating in there. Then noticed it wasn't the usual non-descript gray moth that typically meets its end in my coffee. This poor thing had a pretty pattern on its wings.
Called my sister to come look, since it was "different," and while she was looking for her glasses, I proceeded to carefully pour out the coffee, hoping to keep it intact - when I saw its wings flutter! Grabbed a paper towel, and carefully poured the last bit on the towel and saw it was still alive!
After a few seconds, it fluttered its wings some more, and then hopped back on my cup, and slowly proceeded up to the rim. By now I had my camera and was trying to get some macros, fingers crossed something would turn out to help me ID this little coffee cup crasher! After checking all my guides, I still don't know.
** And yes, after a few more shots, it was taken outside and released back into the wild where it belongs. Hopefully no more coffee baths for this little one!
Couldn't resist another shot of these pomegranate reflections on our granite kitchen island.
The pomegranate has appeared in myths, legends, art and history for centuries. Associated with health and rebirth, some scholars even place the pomegranate in the Garden of Eden, instead of an apple. Known as one of the earliest cultivated fruits, they may date back to 2000 B.C. and are still a fruit of fascination today.
Have a wonderful evening / day and thanks ever so much for dropping by.
When it is just my wife and myself we tend to sit up at the kitchen island, on the stools, for our meals ~ oh, how our days have changed!!

Colorado Springs, CO - Over the years I've been inside over a thousand homes taking pictures however, this particular home had a feature I have not seen before. The stair railings were horizontal and not vertical. It's subtle, yet it makes a big difference. It's like changing the hairstyle of a house if it had hair.
This was taken using a Godox AD200 Pro (2 exposures) combined with four ambient pictures.
We've just landed in the kitchen, one of the upper deck galley's of the British Airways A380, where the magic happens, keeping everyone fed & watered.
British Airways Airbus A380 G-XLEF operating the daily BA 462 from London Heathrow to Madrid @ 15.15 hrs.
British Airways have been begun operating their A380's again since grounding during the Covid-19 pandemic, using them on daily trips to Madrid & Frankfurt, a real treat for enthusiasts during November/ December 2021.
Special thanks to Sophie, Marie & Philip, BA cabin crew for taking great care of me that day, what an experience.
Great to see the BA A380 back again #WelcomeBack

Not earthshattering news, but I thought I would share anyway. LOL. I printed a couple of new kitchen backgrounds with white cabinetry, so I decided to make to make a white island for my cooking pictures. This is the first island I've made that can be photographed full length, all the other ones are get propped up on packs of gum to make them higher. :-) I still haven't decided if I want to put a couple of knobs of some kind on the front to make it look like doors. I'll have to see if I can find or make something interesting for the knob that's also neutral.
You can't really tell, but Amelie is making madelines with strawberries.
So sleek and chic: paneled cabinets are painted 'Surrey' by Ralph Lauren. Marble countertops and a stainless steel Viking range don't hurt, either.

Glorious! In this Nantucket kitchen decorated by Sandi Holland, walls are painted Navajo White and cabinets are Tudor Brown, both by Benjamin Moore. Counters are Calcutta Gold marble.
“I'm a great believer in big islands,” says Holland. “The mistake people often make is putting the island and the counters too far apart. All you need is room for two people to pass.”

Larkspur, CO - This was a fun house to take pictures of, it was tucked in the woods on a great 5-acre lot.
I used the latest addition to my photography tool bag, a Godox AD200 Pro flash. It has made a world of difference. I am very happy with the purchase.
Behind the camera were some hudge windows casting blue light from the outside. To counter that color cast I pointed the AD200 flash towards the windows at the upper left corner of the ceiling. This helped balance the light and still keep some naturally occurring shadows in play.

I'm getting around so much better now but am still not able to see my patio flowers easily. The solution to that problem is having a group of little vases set at one end of the kitchen island.
Every few days I ask my workers to "refresh" the vases so they always look great.

The Stenstorp kitchen island from IKEA is built and in our kitchen. I like it a lot. It is slightly wider than would be ideal, but it gives us storage and a place to sit and eat or work. It is moveable, which is good. And it seems very strong and sturdy.
Here the plastic is still on the shelves. The shelves are stainless steel. Stainless steel is not really what I want -- I kind of like the light color the shelves have at the moment with their shipping plastic on, but of course we'll have to remove that. I wonder if painting the stainless steel would be a problem...
The stools are IKEA Idbyn stools. I cannot find a picture of them anywhere on the web, strangely... not even on IKEA's website. Anyway, they work well because they are narrow front-to-back, so they fit well under the "bar" here, but they are comfy as well.
A range of dining tables is available to complinent original kitchen pieces. here the table legs have been turned to contrast in style.

Tessa has been trying to comfort him (believe it or not).
Sole and I went to see a nice vet today.
Photos of sweet Tessa and helpful vet tomorrow. Also my theory of what happened and news about administering meds. Too tired tonight to write more. ;)
P.S. Sole is extra cuddly and I think he is OK.
Interior designer Emily Summers collaborated with Austin-based architect Lawrence W. Speck to update her 1970 Dallas home by Enslie (Bud) Oglesby and enhance its creekside setting. Her goal for the kitchen was to create an inviting space that could serve equally well for casual family meals and for formal gatherings that frequently spill out to the dining terrace. To reflect the palette of the home’s lush site, she emphasized natural materials, using sea-grass limestone for the ample counters, brushed aluminum for the cabinets and white oak for the floors.
Edelman leather covers the Norman Cherner chairs at the island. The Mario Bellini Cab chairs (shown paired with the dining table) are from Cassina. The cabinets, glass backsplash, accessories bar and vent are from Bulthaup; the counters are from Walker Zanger. The floor-to-ceiling windows are from Hope’s Windows.

I spend the most time at my kitchen island! Lots of cooking, baking, quilting (cutting fabric and then layering the quilt), and other crafts. It is also an excellent spot for flower arranging.

Black Forest, CO - It's always a treat to take pictures for a custom home builder like Jayden Homes. This home is awesome, not just because it's a custom build but the layout is really nice.
