King of the hammers - #1
The map shows our travels for only 4-days, while covering the "King of the Hammers" off road events and races. Plus time to capture some desert landscapes - four of them precede this photo. The house icon is where we parked the RV in "Hammer Town". Over 30K people were at this event.
Coming up will be photos of spectators enjoying taking on parts of the race coarse, as well as general rock crawling areas. Majority of the images will be of various "cars" while running races. Qualifying, short course, shoot outs and the main event on Friday the 10th - Ultra 4's. This class has two rules, must be four wheel drive and "unlimited" - so make that only one rule. A longer dialog on the subject is with the lead off landscape "Moon Rising on Johnson Valley". You will need to go to my photostream to see/read it. The landscapes will give the viewer a better idea of the terrain these driver will be tackling.
Images will be added to only a few groups - auto racing & general off road. They'll be slowly added on my photo stream as not to "flood" photos on the groups.
For the very few who have read the dialog down to this point, and like taking photo's like these, I'll give you a little tip. All shots were taken with a polarizing filter on the lens. It was set to cut the glare on the horizontal plain, and haze. No software can give the same effect as the real thing. Higher ISO's were used so a higher shutter speed could be utilized. High burst rates were also used so I could "cherry pick" the best images that would show the "action". Camera data is with each shot.
I've been shooting racing images (off and on) since 1963 - Nikon F's up to the D810. Some are in my "Albums". For old farts like me, it will be a little time travel to the good old days.

I be leave that this is from the Cam Am "UTV" race, given the media (yellow vest) attention and the date. The location is known as "Back Door", a steep & rocky ravine. This isn't the only one they, and other classes, had to maneuver throughout the various events of the week.
Like all of the other images shot this week, a polarizing filter was used to cut the glare on the horizontal surface. It also helped to punch up the colors.
