With the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the city was conquered by the Franks and became a royal seat. After the division of Charlemagne's empire, it was included in the lands of his son Louis the Pious (814). In 837, it was assigned to Charles the Bald, and a few years later it was here that Carolingian heirs discussed what was to become the Treaty of Verdun (843), by which the city became part of Lotharingia under Lothair I. In 860 and 922, Koblenz was the scene of ecclesiastical synods. At the first synod, held in the Liebfrauenkirche, the reconciliation of Louis the German with his half-brother Charles the Bald took place. The city was sacked and destroyed by the Norsemen in 882. In 925, it became part of the eastern German Kingdom, later the Holy Roman Empire.
These sculptural gritsone tors are found where the path to Grindslow Knoll branches off from the southern edge path on Kinder Scout.
I definitely have to buy such a colourful umbrella. This couple seems very happy and delighted. No wonder, all around them seem rainbow-coloured :-)
I'm kind of fascinated by these trees that can flourish on a small rock homestead like this. This is at Watson Lake in Prescott, Arizona. Watson Lake is one of my all-time favorite places I could spend hours exploring the rocks there. In the first comment, I posted a shot of the whole area I took back in 2011. I really want a do-over on some sunrise shots one day. I was just getting used to a new camera at the time and.. . lets just say I want a do-over. Only had my bird lens with me so no landscape shots from last weekend. Just a distance shot of this tree. (If you click into the shot below, you can see this tree the landscape. It's the right-most one on the little rock island)

Taken around mid morning whilst walking the Kinder circuit, hazy & patchy light. Some of the best Peak District views though.

This isn't just a small town grocery store. It's also a second hand store selling books, movies, and a bunch of other random things. I got myself a soft drink of some kind and a copy of Paddington 2 on blu-ray for $4. I had been meaning to buy this for awhile now, but just never did.
Paddington 2 is possibly the greatest movie ever made. Anyone who disagrees has either never seen it or is without a soul (etc).

I'm not entirely sure I've got the name of these rocks right, but it's about as close on the map as I can see.
After my Friday and Monday plans being ruined, out of desperation I headed out yesterday afternoon/evening to walk from Marsden to Greenfield... 13 miles on the hottest day of the year. As usual, I understimated my water usage and could have done with literally twice as much, so it was not enjoyable rationing that on the trudge across the moors... but by the time I'd reached Dick Hill and Alderman's Hill for sunset I'd enjoyed a well earned can of coke with my tea and at least had some sort of moisture in my mouth. The skies were clear, which made things challenging, and this was a new location for me - but I think I have quite a few compositions I'm happy with, including quite a few to come back to at different times of year. This one reminds me somewhat of the stacks of rock found down in the Cornwall/Devon area... not that I'm an expert... the square shapes not fitting in with the usually well weathered rock in the Peak.
In the end I managed to get from here down to the station in 30 minutes, not bad going, so had time to pop into Tesco to get a few litres of juice which I downed on the way home.

Sculpted fragments of the Vatnajökul glacier rest on the shore of Diamond Beach near the mouth of the Jökulsárlón lagoon, southern Iceland. I played around with a filter and very long exposures for awhile and I wanted to experiment with 1 to 2 second exposures and water trails, but my hands got cold. My wife was also kind enough to inform me that she'd finished off the pasta dish we'd started in the camper van while the boys dug holes in the black sand. So, cold hands and hot dinner, what was a man to do... I packed up and joined the family for hot food, and I didn't get any more photos!
